The chi-squared type statistic generated from the empirical process can be used for testing the goodness of fit hypothesis on iid random sample. Lee (1995) showed that under some conditions, the chi-squared type statistic is asymptotically maximin in the sense of Strasser (1985). Since the chi-squared type statistic depends on the choice of *points in the unit interval, it is worth investigating the points yielding more efficient tests. Motivated by this viewpoint, we are led to study the asymptotic relative efficiency of chi-squared type tests in the same setting of Lee (1995). Some examples are given for illustration.

The Pearson chi-squared statistic or the deviance statistic is widely used in assessing the goodness-of-fit of the generalized linear models. But these statistics are not proper in the situation of continuous explanatory variables which results in the sparseness of cell frequencies. We propose a goodness-of-fit test statistic for the cumulative logit models with ordinal responses. We consider the grouping of a dataset based on the ordinal scores obtained by fitting the assumed model. We propose the Pearson chi-squared type test statistic, which is obtained from the cross-classified table formed by the subgroups of ordinal scores and the response categories. Because the limiting distribution of the chi-squared type statistic is intractable we suggest the parametric bootstrap testing procedure to approximate the distribution of the proposed test statistic.
In this paper we discuss some cautionary notes in using the Pearson chi-squared test statistic for the goodness-of-fit of the ordinal response model. If a model includes continuous type explanatory variables, the resulting table from the t of a model is not a regular one in the sense that the cell boundaries are not fixed but randomly determined by some other criteria. The chi-squared statistic from this kind of table does not have a limiting chi-square distribution in general and we need to be very cautious of the use of a chi-squared type goodness-of-t test. We also study the limiting distribution of the chi-squared type statistic for testing the goodness-of-t of cumulative logit models with ordinal responses. The regularity conditions necessary to the limiting distribution will be reformulated in the framework of the cumulative logit model by modifying those of Moore and Spruill (1975). Due to the complex limiting distribution, a parametric bootstrap testing procedure is a good alternative and we explained the suggested method through a practical example of an ordinal response dataset.
Yates' continuity correction of the chi-squared test for testing the homogeneity of two binomial proportions in $2{\times}2$ contingency tables is developed to lower the value of the test statistic slightly. The effect of continuity correction is expected to decrease as the sample size increases. However, in extremely unbalanced $2{\times}2$ contingency tables, we find some cases where the effect of continuity correction is eccentric and is larger than expected. In such cases, we conclude that the chi-squared test with continuity correction should not be employed as a test statistic in both asymptotic tests and exact tests.

When we observe binary responses in a cluster (such as rat lab-subjects), they are usually correlated to each other. In clustered binomial counts, the independence assumption is violated and we encounter an extra-variation. In the presence of extra-variation, the ordinary statistical analyses of binomial data are inappropriate to apply. In testing the homogeneity of proportions between several treatment groups, the classical Pearson chi-squared test has a severe flaw in the control of Type I error rates. We focus on modifying the chi-squared statistic by incorporating variance inflation factors. We suggest a method to adjust data in terms of dispersion estimate based on a quasi-likelihood model. We explain the testing procedure via an illustrative example as well as compare the performance of a modified chi-squared test with competitive statistics through a Monte Carlo study.
If the given information is exact, though it is the little, we had better use it than not use in analysis. In this article, the problem of independence test in a contingency table is considered when two marginal distributions of a population are given exactly. For that case, a likelihood-ratio chi-squared test statistic and its Pearsonian type chi-squared test statistic are derived. By Monte Carlo Simulations the traditional chi-square tests and the derived tests are compared. And the related some testing problems are synthetically explained on a geometrical viewpoint.

Desgagné and de Micheaux (2018) proposed an alternative univariate normality test to the Jarque-Bera test. The proposed statistic is based on the sample second power skewness and kurtosis while the Jarque-Bera statistic uses sample Pearson's skewness and kurtosis that are the third and fourth standardized sample moments, respectively. In this paper, we generalize their statistic to a multivariate version based on orthogonalization or an empirical standardization of data. The proposed multivariate statistic follows chi-squared distribution approximately. A simulation study shows that the proposed statistic has good control of type I error even for a very small sample size when critical values from the approximate distribution are used. It has comparable power to the multivariate version of the Jarque-Bera test with exactly the same idea of the orthogonalization. It also shows much better power for some mixed normal alternatives.
Purposes - In this research, we look over and investigate associations between shopping items and the demographics of foreign tourists in South Korea. The related seven variables are gender, age, occupations, country of residence, visit month, visit purpose and trip type. In addition, we can graph twenty-one shopping items in association with the demographics of foreign tourists by computing their dissimilarity or similarity on two dimension planes granting that the association exists between the underlying variables. Research design and methodology - This research is performed by Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2017 and investigated 13,200 foreign tourists from 20 countries. For analyzing the detailed relationships between shopping items and the demographics of foreign tourists, we take advantage of both independent test and correspondence analysis as key statistical techniques. Results - The findings show that shopping items which foreign tourists purchase are closely associated with the three different demographics variables such as country of residence, tour type and visit purpose by monitoring significant p-value of chi-squared statistic Conclusions - This study suggests Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism must explore ways toward tourism infrastructure such as global marketing, municipality strategy for attracting foreign tourists, development of diverse shopping items and services and so on.

1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to assess the statistical methods used in the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine and to identify the types of errors in the statistical analysis. 2. Methods We have reviewed quantitative articles published in the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine from 2000 to 2009. Except for the case report, a total of 505 articles was reviewed by year. We focused on the methods of statistics in these articles. We have analysed the number of thesis used the statistical methods, the number of the statistical methods, the types of the statistical methods, and the errors of the statistical methods with the object of 202 thesis used the statistical method. 3. Results 1. Of the 370 articles, 202 used inferential statistics. 2. The most dominant was the thesis with one type of the statistical method forming 61.9% (125 thesis) of the total. 3. The ANOVA was the statistic of choice overall (40.1%), followed by the t-test (35.6%). 4. By examining the errors of the statistical methods, there were 49 thesis with errors among 81 thesis using ANOVA, 25 thesis among 72 thesis using t-test, and 18 over 62 thesis using chi-squared test. 4. Conclusions We have found various mistakes or misuses in the applications of statistical methodologies in the articles published in the Journal of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. It is necessary to present the cases of inappropriate statistical methods in order to improve the quality of academic researches. So long as Sasang constitutional medicine uses the statistical methods, researchers should fully examine and be aware of the statistical methods which they wish to use through other research articles, and statistic publications.

This research is for comparison of test statistics for homogeneity when the data is collected based on complex sample design. The survey data based on complex sample design does not satisfy the condition of independency which is required for the standard Pearson multinomial-based chi-squared test. Today, lots of data sets ara collected by complex sample designs, but the tests for categorical data are conducted using the standard Pearson chi-squared test. In this study, we compared the performance of three test statistics for homogeneity between two populations using data from the 2009 customer satisfaction evaluation survey to the service from Gyeongsangnam-do regional offices of education: the standard Pearson test, the unbiasedWald test, and the Pearsontype test with survey-based point estimates. Through empirical analyses, we fist showed that the standard Pearson test inflates the values of test statistics very much and the results are not reliable. Second, in the comparison of Wald test and Pearson-type test, we find that the test results are affected by the number of categories, the mean and standard deviation of the eigenvalues of design matrix.
