생물계절모형을 이용한 벚꽃 개화일 예측 (Predicting Cherry Flowering Date Using a Plant Phonology Model)

  • An accurate prediction of blooming date is crucial for many authorities to schedule and organize successful spring flower festivals in Korea. The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has been using regression models combined with a subjective correction by forecasters to issue blooming date forecasts for major cities. Using mean monthly temperature data for February (observed) and March (predicted), they issue blooming date forecasts in late February to early March each year. The method has been proved accurate enough for the purpose of scheduling spring festivals in the relevant cities, but cannot be used in areas where no official climate and phenology data are available. We suggest a thermal time-based two-step phenological model for predicting the blooming dates of spring flowers, which can be applied to any geographic location regardless of data availability. The model consists of two sequential periods: the rest period described by chilling requirement and the forcing period described by heating requirement. It requires daily maximum and minimum temperature as an input and calculates daily chill units until a pre-determined chilling requirement for rest release. After the projected rest release date, it accumulates daily heat units (growing degree days) until a pre- determined heating requirement for flowering. Model parameters were derived from the observed bud-burst and flowering dates of cherry tree (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea) at KMA Seoul station along with daily temperature data for 1923-1950. The model was applied to the 1955-2004 daily temperature data to estimate the cherry blooming dates and the deviations from the observed dates were compared with those predicted by the KMA method. Our model performed better than the KMA method in predicting the cherry blooming dates during the last 50 years (MAE = 2.31 vs. 1.58, RMSE = 2.96 vs. 2.09), showing a strong feasibility of operational application.

수확 후 꼭지 유지, 제거에 따른 대추형 방울토마토의 품질 및 미생물 변화 (Changes of Postharvest Quality and Microbial Population in Jujube-Shaped Cherry Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) by Stem Maintenance or Removal)

  • 본 연구는 대추형 방울토마토 유통에 있어 과병과 꽃받침을 포함하는 꼭지 유지와 제거에 따른 내부품질, 외관상 품질변화와 미생물상에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보고자 수행하였다. 적색기 대추형 방울토마토인 '베타티니' 품종을 대상으로 꼭지 유지 또는 제거 처리 후 $20^{\circ}C$에 12일간 저장하면서 호흡량, 중량감소율, 색도, 경도, 가용성고형물함량, 산도 등의 품질과 일반세균수, 대장균군, 곰팡이수 등의 미생물 변화를 관찰하였다. 저장 12일 동안 중량감소율은 꼭지를 제거한 대추형 방울토마토가 꼭지가 유지된 무처리보다 더욱 낮았다. 꼭지 제거 처리가 꼭지 유지에 비하여 호흡량이 낮게 유지되었으며 꼭지 제거된 상처부위에 새로운 조직이 형성되는 것을 형태학적으로 관찰하였다. 가용성고형물함량, 산도, 과피의 hue angle값은 저장 8일 후 감소하는 경향이었고 꼭지 유지/제거에 따른 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 꼭지에 일반세균수, 대장균군, 곰팡이수가 많아 저장 5일 이후 꼭지에 발생하는 곰팡이로 인한 저장병해가 꼭지 유지 대추형 방울토마토 유통 시 저장수명을 짧게 하는 요인이 되었다. 꼭지 제거 대추형 방울토마토의 저장기간은 약 8일이었으나 꼭지 유지 방울토마토는 약 6일로 관찰되어 대추형 방울토마토의 꼭지를 제거하고 유통하는 것이 저장성 향상에 적합한 것으로 판단된다.

기후변화에 따른 벚꽃 개화일의 시공간 변이 (Climate Change Impact on the Flowering Season of Japanese Cherry (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea) in Korea during 1941-2100)

  • A thermal time-based two-step phenological model was used to project flowering dates of Japanese cherry in South Korea from 1941 to 2100. The model consists of two sequential periods: the rest period described by chilling requirement and the forcing period described by heating requirement. Daily maximum and minimum temperature are used to calculate daily chill units until a pre-determined chilling requirement for rest release is met. After the projected rest release date, daily heat units (growing degree days) are accumulated until a pre-determined heating requirement for flowering is achieved. Model calculations using daily temperature data at 18 synoptic stations during 1955-2004 were compared with the observed blooming dates and resulted in 3.9 days mean absolute error, 5.1 days root mean squared error, and a correlation coefficient of 0.86. Considering that the phonology observation has never been fully standardized in Korea, this result seems reasonable. Gridded data sets of daily maximum and minimum temperature with a 270 m grid spacing were prepared for the climatological years 1941-1970 and 1971-2000 from observations at 56 synoptic stations by using a spatial interpolation scheme for correcting urban heat island effect as well as elevation effect. A 25km-resolution temperature data set covering the Korean Peninsula, prepared by the Meteorological Research Institute of Korea Meteorological Administration under the condition of Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change-Special Report on Emission Scenarios A2, was converted to 270 m gridded data for the climatological years 2011-2040, 2041-2070 and 2071-2100. The model was run by the gridded daily maximum and minimum temperature data sets, each representing a climatological normal year for 1941-1970, 1971-2000, 2011-2040, 2041-2070, and 2071-2100. According to the model calculation, the spatially averaged flowering date for the 1971-2000 normal is shorter than that for 1941-1970 by 5.2 days. Compared with the current normal (1971-2000), flowering of Japanese cherry is expected to be earlier by 9, 21, and 29 days in the future normal years 2011-2040, 2041-2070, and 2071-2100, respectively. Southern coastal areas might experience springs with incomplete or even no Japanese cherry flowering caused by insufficient chilling for breaking bud dormancy.

옥상 도시농업에서 방울토마토(Lycopersicon esculentum)와 바질(Ocimum basilicum)간의 공영식재가 생육, 생리, 생산성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Intercropping Ratio on the Cherry Tomato with Basil on the Growth, Physiological, and Productivity Parameters on the Rooftop in Urban Agriculture)

  • This study evaluated the growth, physiological responses and productivity based on the intercropping ratio of cherry tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) with basil (Ocimum basilicum L.). on the rooftops to determine out the efficient ratio in urban agriculture. From April to September 2019, an experiment was conducted on the rooftop of Konkuk University Glocal Campus. Cherry tomato and basil were selected as companion plants for eco-friendly urban agriculture on the rooftops. Each plot was created with a width of 100 cm, length of 100 cm, and height of 25 cm. After installing drainage and waterproof layers from bottom to top, substrate was laid out with a height of 20 cm. Intercropping ratio was consisted of a single tomato plant (TC), 2:1 tomato to basil (T2B1), 1:1 tomato to basil (T1B1), 1:2 tomato to basil 2 (T1B2), and a single basil plant (BC), were conducted using a randomized complete plot design with five treatments and three replication (a total 15 plots). Measurements were divided into growth, physiological responses, and productivity parameters, and detailed items were investigated and analyzed by classifying them into plant height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaves, root length, root collar caliper, chlorophyll contents, fresh weight, dry weight, number of fruit, fruit caliper, fruit weight, and sugar content. Comparative analyses of cherry tomato with basil plants by intercropping ratio, growth, physiological, and productivity responses are determined to be efficient when the ratio of cherry tomato to basil ratio is 2:1 or 1:1.

The Effect of Mixed Cultivation Using Companion Plants on the Growth and Quality of Cherry Tomatoes

  • Background and objective: Recent urban agriculture meets the needs of urban residents that safety and avoids using chemical pesticides. This study was conducted to identify various factors of companion planting affecting the growth of cherry tomatoes, which will promoting urban agriculture by improving socioeconomic satisfaction with gardening activities through quality. Methods: Four types of companion plants such as marigold, zinnia, spearmint and basil, that have a companion effect with growth, sugar content, and vitamin C content. We obtained the mean and standard deviation and tested the significance at a 95% confidence level (p < .05) with Duncan's multiple range test after one way ANOVA and MANOVA. Results: Compared to monoculture of cherry tomatoes, the plant growth in the treatment plots with companion planting showed a significant increase overall(p < .05), but there wasn't interaction effect among companion plants, planting ratio and type. As for the absorption of inorganic components, the companion planting showed better absorption than monoculture of cherry tomatoes, as favorable growth, and there was an interaction effect among the individual factors. The sugar content was higher than the standard sugar content of 5.8 brix in both the treatment plots at the control, and vitamin C content was higher than the control at 26.27mg/100g in all treatment plots, but there wasn't statistically significant difference. The soil pH in the cultivation plot ranges from 5.5 to 9.0 and was weakly alkaline in all treatment plots except zinnia, showing low contents of phosphoric acid, exchageable potassium, calcium and magnesium. Conclusion: This study was conducted to analyze various factors such as the growth of cherry tomatoes, contents of inorganic components, sugar content and vitamin C content of fruits, and soil analysis according to companion plants, planting type, and planting ratio. We will study sugar content by measuring the change in growth every phase of fruits.

최근의 봄꽃 개화 추이와 2014년 개화시기의 혼란 (Recent Trends in Blooming Dates of Spring Flowers and the Observed Disturbance in 2014)

  • 한반도의 봄철은 산수유, 매화, 목련, 진달래, 개나리, 벚꽃, 철쭉 등 다양한 꽃이 순차적으로 개화하는 동적인 경관을 특징으로 한다. 덕분에 지자체들은 봄꽃축제를 통해 관광수입을 올려왔으며, 봄꽃을 따라 남쪽에서 북쪽으로 이동하는 양봉업자는 장기간에 걸쳐 밀원을 확보할 수 있었다. 하지만 최근 봄꽃 개화일의 지역 간 차이와 화종 간 차이가 동시에 줄어들어 계절경관의 경제적, 공익적 가치가 훼손되고 있다. 대표적인 봄꽃인 개나리와 벚꽃의 개화일을 60년 이상 관측해온 6개 기상관서의 자료에 의하면, 먼저 피는 개나리와 늦게 피는 벚꽃의 개화일 편차가 1951-1980 평년에는 최장 30일, 평균 14일이었지만, 1981-2010 평년에는 최장 21일, 평균 11일로 단축되었다. 특히 2014년에는 7일로 단축되어 같은 장소에서 벚꽃과 개나리를 동시에 볼 수 있게 되었다. 또한 부산에서 서울까지 벚꽃전선이 이동하는 데 1951-1980 평년의 경우 20일이 소요되었으나 1981-2010 평년에는 16일로 줄었으며, 2014년에는 6일로 좁혀졌다. 같은 기간 개나리전선은 20일${\rightarrow}$17일${\rightarrow}$12일로 단축되었다. 두 봄꽃의 개화일이 근접해진 이유는 휴면해제 직후 이른 봄의 완만한 기온상승에 비해 늦은 봄의 급격한 기온상승으로 대표되는 한반도의 최근 기후변화양상이 일찍 피는 개나리보다 늦게 피는 벚꽃의 개화를 더욱 앞당겼기 때문으로 추정된다. 지난 60년간 자료로부터 온도시간을 기반으로 개화에 소요되는 고온요구량을 지점별로 도출하여 2014년의 개나리와 벚꽃 개화일을 추정한 결과 평방근오차 2일 이내의 좋은 성적을 얻었다.

복숭아, 앵두, 고추의 교차반응성 및 소화효소안정성 (Cross-Reactivity and Digestive Enzyme Stability of Peach, Korean Cherry, and Hot Pepper)

  • 복숭아는 오래 전부터 알레르기를 일으키는 식품으로 알려져 있으나 특정 식품과의 교차반응에 대한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 한국에서 재배되고 있는 복숭아, 앵두, 고추의 단백질을 추출하여 복숭아 알레르기를 가진 환자가 앵두와 고추에 대해 교차반응성을 일으키는지 확인하고 이 단백질들의 소화효소처리에 따른 안정성을 조사하였다. 복숭아, 앵두 및 고추 단백질 추출물은 Tricine-SDS-PAGE상에서 3 kDa부터 26 kDa 이상까지 넓은 범위의 단백질 분포를 보였으나 각기 다른 패턴을 가지는 것을 확인하였다. 복숭아 단백질의 항원성을 확인하기 위해 복숭아 민감성 환자의 혈청과의 IgE반응성을 확인한 결과, 환자 혈청은 모두 복숭아의 주요 항원성 단백질 lipid transfer protein로 예상되는 9 kDa 부근에서 강한 IgE결합력을 보였으며 또한 9 kDa 단백질이 anti-LTP1 polyclonal antibody에 의해 검출되는 것을 확인하였다. 앵두와 고추 단백질 추출물은 23 kDa 부근에서의 IgE결합력이 9 kDa과의 반응성보다 크게 나타났다. 복숭아, 앵두 및 고추의 소화효소에 대한 안정성을 SDS-PAGE 상에서 확인한 결과, 복숭아, 앵두 및 고추의 항원성 단백질은 인공 위액 및 장액에 의해 완전히 분해되지 않아 알레르기를 유발할 잠재성이 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로, 복숭아, 앵두 및 고추 단백질 추출물이 소화효소처리에 안정성을 가지는 특성을 가지며 복숭아 알레르기 증상을 가지는 사람에게 앵두 및 고추는 교차반응성을 일으킬 가능성이 크다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Thermal Distribution of Size-resolved Carbonaceous Aerosols and Water Soluble Organic Carbon in Emissions from Biomass Burning

  • The study of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere is critical to understand the role of aerosols in human health and climate. Using standardized thermal optical transmittance methods, organic carbon (OC), elemental carbon (EC), and water soluble organic carbon (WSOC) were determined using a combustion sampling system for four types of agricultural crop residues (rice straw, red pepper stems, soybean stems, and green perilla stems) and eight types of forest trees (pine stems, pine needles, ginkgo stems, ginkgo leaves, maple stems, maple leaves, cherry stems, and cherry leaves). The aerosol particles between 0.056 and $5.6{\mu}m$ in size were analyzed using a Micro-Orifice Uniform Deposit Impactor (MOUDI). In the current study, the Carbonaceous Thermal Distribution (CTD) by carbon analyzer was discussed in order to understand the carbon fractions from the twelve types of biomass burning. Also, the concentration of OC, EC, WSOC, and water insoluble organic carbon (WIOC) detected in the emissions were described.
