  • The neuroendocrine tumor is a rare thymic neoplasm, which has been regarded as a distinct tumor from thymoma and originates from Kultschizky cell. The pathologic diagnosis of thymic neuroendocrine tumor has been on findings from light microscopy, immunohistochemical studies, and electron microscopy. About 50% of thymic carcinoids are seen with endocrinopathies. Recurrence and extrathoracic metastasis are characteristics of thymic carcinoids. Surgical removal of the initial and recurred tumor is considered to be the most effective treatment. The role of the adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy is still uncertain. Herein we report a case of thymic neuroendocrine tumor, which was resected surgically.

  • This report is aimed to investigate the effect of Traditional Korean Therapy (TKT) in treating recurred breast cancer metastasized to lung. A 53-year-old woman who was diagnosed as left breast cancer and underwent surgery, adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy in early 2009 was admitted for the treatment of recurred, metastatic lung cancer in late 2012. She was treated with TKT including acupuncture, moxibustion and pharmacopuncture. The effect was evaluated with positron emission tomogram and computed tomogram (PET-CT). The metastatic tumors in both lungs were disappeared after the treatment for about 2 months. These results suggest that TKT is a therapeutic method to treat metastatic lung cancer originated from breast cancer.

  • For discovering a new trend of cancer therapy in east and west medicine, we have investigated the journal of integrated traditional chinese and western medicine(ITCWM) from Jan. 2000 to Jun. 2006. The main treatment of cancer therapy in ITCWM was western treatments(chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery etc.). Traditional chinese medicine(TCM) was adjuvant treatments. But, it is said that TCM has some important roles in treating cancer at this journal.

  • This 51-year-old man suffered from paraparesis of 1-week history. On preoperative images, spinal cord compression by infiltrative vertebral mass was shown at T3 and T4 level. Several months earlier, he underwent surgical resection of left 2nd to 4th ribs, due to painful growing chest wall mass, which was proved to be hepatocellular carcinoma. All available diagnostic procedure failed to uncover origin of malignancy. Operation was followed by adjuvant irradiation and chemotherapy to the vertebral mass, however he only to die in 3 months after operation. This is an extremely rare case of ectopic hepatocellular carcinoma at thoracic vertebrae which showed very aggressive clinical course. Possible pathogenic process is presented and discussed.

  • Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Kidney(CCSK) is a rare malignant childhood tumor with frequent metastasis to the bone. We report a case of right sided in a 5 month-old girl. A radical nephrectomy was performed. It was clinical stage III with renal capsular invasion and lymph node metastasis by the classification of NWTS-5. Histologic examination revealed the classic pattern of CCSK. Postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy with doxorubicin and radiotheraphy were applied.

Radical surgery have performed for treatment of choice but combined modalities such as radiotherapy or adjuvant chemotherapy have been recommanded recently. • Carcinoid tumors arising in the thymus are rare. Since Rosai and Higa in 1972 distinguished these neoplasms from thymomas, fewer than 100 cases have been reported in the world literature. The pathologic diagnosis of thymic carcinoids is been on findings from light microscopy, histochemical studies, and electron microscopy. About 50% of thymic carcinoids are seen with endocrinopathies. Recurrence and extrathoracic metastasis are characteristic of thymic carcinoids. Surgical extirpation of the tumor initially and of the subseguent recurrences in the most effective treatment today The role of adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy is still uncertain. Herein we report a case of thymic carcinoid tumor in a 36-year old male with brief review of literatures.

  • Breast cancer is the most common in women worldwide, with some 5-10% of all cases due to inherited mutations of BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. Obesity, hormone therapy and use of alcohol are possible causes and over-expression of leptin in adipose tissue may also play a role. Normally surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy allow a good prognosis where screening measures are in place. New hope in treatment measures include adjuvant therapy, neoadjuvant therapy, and introduction of mono-clonal antibodies and enzyme inhibitors.

  • $^{67}Ga$ Scanning may be a useful adjuvant in screening for suspected extrapulmonary tuberculosis and in assessing the response of therapy. A 52-year-old man with renal tuberculosis showed a renal localization of $^{67}Ga-citrate$ scans. Follow-up Scans after 3 months of chemotherapy showed decrease in uptake. So we present a case with the brief review of literatures.

Here, we report a rare case of primary pulmonary Ewing's sarcoma in a patient with hemoptysis. The patient underwent right upper lung lobe lobectomy with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy and has been free of recurrent disease for 4 years.
