  • In this study, we used a chemiluminescence reaction to investigate the removal effect of pet soil, such as dog blood, urine and feces. The soiled fabrics were washed with a standard laundry course of 30℃ and a washing time of 30 min and a pet care laundry course of 40-60℃ and a washing time of 100 min. The detergency was evaluated by the surface reflectance and chemiluminescence reaction (bloodstain detection by luminol test and urine-stain and feces-stain detection by UV blacklight test) before and after washing. The surface reflectance results did not show any difference in detergency for both courses, whereas the chemiluminescence reaction did. The detergency of the pet care course compared to the standard course was 101% according to the surface reflectance and 120% according to the chemiluminescence reaction. Therefore, residual stains not detected by surface reflectance can be evaluated through chemiluminescence reaction, and it was confirmed that pet stains can be managed more hygienically by washing for a long time at a high temperature.

  • Ultraweak photons could be emitted from the chemical reaction without any electromagnetic radient. These chemiluminescence could be detected by highly sensible photomultiplier recently. We will introduce the principal of chemiluminescence generation reaction, and the application studies in the determination of food-borne microorganisms in field. The counts of surface contaminated microorganism in mackeral and chicken for cold storage determined by ATP-chemiluminescence method had good correlation with the counts by standard agar plate method. However, there was little correlation between 2 methods in ginseng powder whose microbial counts were lower than 10,000 CFU.

  • This study aimed to verify the hypothesis that urea denatures hemoglobin in the blood, thereby exposing active sites of enzymes and enhancing the chemiluminescence of the blood-luminol reaction. When blood was pretreated with urea, higher concentrations of pretreatment urea or longer pretreatment times resulted in enhanced chemiluminescence in the blood-luminol reaction, supporting the above hypothesis. However, the chemiluminescence was enhanced when blood was treated with luminol mixed with an 8 M urea solution, although the fact that the time for urea to denature hemoglobin was shorter compared to when blood was pretreated with urea and followed by luminol. In addition, the chemiluminescence was enhanced when a transition metal without hemoglobin was reacted with urea-containing luminol. Based on these results, it is anticipated that urea not only denatures hemoglobin but also plays a role in the luminol-hydrogen peroxide reaction.

  • Conjugated-non-conjugated alternating block copolymers containing distyrylarylene units were synthesized via Wittig reaction for chemiluminescent fluorophores. The polymers were differentiated from others by the presence of aromatic unit in the chromophoric block. When UV-VIS, photoluminescence and chemiluminescence spectra of these materials were compared with copolymers, a strong bathochromic effect was observed. A more pronounced red shift and higher chemiluminscence efficiency were observed in the polymer with anthracene ring. Sodium salicylate-catalyzed reaction of bis(2-carbopentyloxy-3,5,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate with hydrogen peroxide produced a strong chemiluminescence from blue to yellow-green light emission with wavelength of 450-537 nm in the presence of the fluorophore. The chemiluminescent intensity decayed exponentially. The glow of chemiluminescence maintained more than l2 hr and was visible with the naked eye.

  • The effect of ethylenediamine (EDA) on the reaction of luminol or Bluestar with blood and bleaches was studied. For this purpose, blood, chlorine bleach, and oxygen bleach were applied to filter paper, treated with EDA-containing luminol or Bluestar, and the changes in chemiluminescence intensity were observed. It was found that the chemiluminescence intensity of the luminol (or Bluestar)-blood reaction did not change with the increasing concentration of EDA. However, the chemiluminescence intensity of the luminol (or Bluestar)-chlorine bleach reaction decreased and the chemiluminescence intensity of the luminol (or Bluestar)-oxygen bleach reaction increased, with increasing EDA concentration. Thus, it was found that when EDA was added to luminol (or Bluestar), which is a blood-sensitive reagent, EDA suppressed the false-positive reaction induced by chlorine bleach and induced a false-positive reaction with oxygen bleach. Consequently, the addition of EDA is not recommended for enhancing bloodstains with luminol or Bluestar.

  • The excitation mechanism of fluorescers for the chemiluminescence arising from the reaction between bis(2, 4, 6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate (TCPO) and hydrogen peroxide in the presence of fluorescent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons has been studied. A key intermediate is generated from the reaction of TCPO with $H_2O_2$ and then the excitation of fluorescer.

  • Low density polyethylene is widely used as an insulating material In electric power cables. It is most important to know the beginning of its aging by partial discharge and UV-ray. That Is reason which we investigate chemiluminescence of the LDPE treated by partial discharge, UV-ray and corona discharge. We find that it takes one hour on spectra of IR but 0.17 minutes on chemiluminescence in the variation of chemical by partial discharge. Also we knew that Lithium carbonate-added(1phr) LDPE offered obvious suppressing effect on aging by partial discharge through the chemiluminescence. Therefore, the chemiluminescence is a highly sensitive and effective measurement method to appreciate characteristics of the treated surface and the oxidation reaction.

  • A novel chemiluminescence (CL) flow injection method for the determination of balofloxacin is described. The method is based on the weak CL signal arising from the reaction of $KBrO_3$ with $Na_2S_2O_4$ in acidic medium being significantly enhanced by balofloxacin in the presence of europium (III) ion and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). The experimental conditions that affected CL intensity were carefully optimized and the CL reaction mechanism was briefly discussed. Under the optimum conditions, the relative CL intensity was proportional to the concentration of balofloxacin in the range of $7.0{\times}10^{-11}$ to $3.0{\times}10^{-7}g\;mL^{-1}$. The detection limit was $2.7{\times}10^{-11}g\;mL^{-1}$ and the relative standard deviation was 2.1% for $7.0{\times}10^{-10}g\;mL^{-1}$ balofloxacin (n = 13). The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of balofloxacin in pharmaceutical formulations and biological fluids.

  • Novel naphthyl-containing biphenyl analogues were prepared by Suzki reaction for the chemiluminescent blue fluorophores. UV-Vis absorption, photoluminescence, chemiluminescence and CIE chromaticities were measured. The fluorophores displayed blue photoluminescence in solution with a maximum intensity around 378-415 nm. Sodium salicylate-catalyzed reaction of them with bis(2 carbopentyloxy-3,5,6-trichlorophenyl)-oxalate with hydrogen peroxide provided a strong chemiluminescent red light emission with wavelengths of 398-427 nm; these were similar to the photoluminescent spectra. The chemiluminescent intensity decayed exponentially and the glow of chemiluminescence, which was visible with naked eyes, was maintained for more than 4 h.

  • A novel chemiluminescence (CL) system was established for the determination of cytosine arabinoside (Ara-C) in pharmaceutical preparations. It was showed that a clear CL signal was observed when Eosin Y mixed with Fenton reagent. The CL intensity was decreased significantly when Ara-C was added to the reaction system and partially scavenged the hydroxyl radicals in the solution. The extent of decrease in the CL intensity had a good stoichiometrical relationship with the Ara-C concentration. Based on this, we developed a new method for the determination of Ara-C using a flow injection analysis (FIA) technique with CL detection. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range of Ara-C concentration was $6.0{\times}10^{-9}\sim1.0{\times}10^{-7}mol/L$ (R = 0.9982) with a detection limit of $7.6{\times}10^{-10}mol/L$ (S/N=3), the RSD was 5.6% for $6.0{\times}10^{-8}mol/L$ Ara-C (n = 11). The method was successfully applied to the determination of Ara-C in injection samples. The possible chemiluminescence reaction mechanism was discussed.
