Electrode surface reaction on three carbon materials(glassy carbon, synthesized graphite, graphite foil) in 0.5 M K2SO4 electrolyte is investigated by impedance spectroscopy during anodic polarization. The double layer capacitance of the graphite foil electrode is relatively higher than that of other two materials. The change of capacitance parameter C due to chemical adsorption on glassy carbon and synthesized graphite(PVDF graphite) is observed in 0.5 M K2SO4 solution at anodic polarization. In general, the faradic impedance on glassy carbon depends on anodic polarization, and the change of impedance parameter on graphite foil at anodic polarization is not remarkable, because this reaction is controlled by field transport.
The behaviour of ionic compound crystals under combined chemical and externally applied electrical potential gradients is discussed. Firstly, a systematic overview is given. Then a formal analysis follows. The transport equations of the ions and the electric defects predict that even with reversible electrodes demixing, and in particular decomposition of the compound will occur if the applied d.c. current density is sufficiently high. These predictions are illustrated by appropriate experiments. With the help of the solid solution (Me, Fe)O, where Fe-ions are the dilute species, we investigate experimentally the behaviour of a ternary ionic crystal under a d.c. electric current load. All the compounds were placed in a galvanic cell, and the internal reactions which then could be observed were driven by the electric field in this cell. In addition, we discuss the influence of the electric field on the classical solid state reaction AX+BX=ABX$_2$, if again the reaction couple is placed in a galvanic cell.
It is of great importance to predict operating parameter characteristics of an integrated fuel processor by the increased life-time and system performance. In this study, computational analysis is performed to gain fundamental insights on transport phenomena and chemical reactions in reformer which consists of preheating, steam reforming, and water gas shift reaction beds. Also, a top-fired burner locates inside of the reforming system. The combustor is providing thermal energy necessary for the steam reforming bed which is a endothermic catalytic reactor. Two-dimensional numerical model of the integrated fuel processing system is introduced for the analysis of heat and mass transport phenomena as well as surface kinetics and catalytic process. A kinetic model was developed and then computational results were compared with the experimental data available in the literature. Subsequently, parameter study using the validated steam methane reforming model was conducted by considering operating parameters, i.e. steam to carbon ratio and temperature.
Ussing's flux ratio theorem (1978) reflects a reciprocal relationship behavior between the unidirectional fluxes in asymmetric steady diffusion-convection in a membrane slab. This surprising result has led to many subsequent studies in a wide range of applications, in particular involving linear models of time dependent problems in biology and physiology. Ussing's theorem and its extensions are inherently linear in character. It is of considerable interest to ask to what extent these results apply, if at all, in situations involving, for example, nonlinear reaction. A physiologically interesting situation has been considered by Weisiger et at. (1989, 1991, 1992) and by McNabb et al. (1990, 1991) who studied the role of albumin in the transport of ligands across aqueous diffusion barriers in a liver membrane slab. The results are that there exist reciprocal relationships between unidirectional fluxes in the steady state, although albumin is chemically interacting in a nonlinear way of the diffusion processes. However, the results do not hold in general at early times. Since this type of study first started, it has been speculated about when and how the Ussing's flux ratio theorem fails in a general diffusion-convection-reaction system. In this paper we discuss the validity of Ussing-type theorems in time-dependent situations, and consider the limiting time behavior of a general nonlinear diffusion system with interaction.
Developed fiber-optic biosensor for the detection of organophosphorus compounds in a contaminated water needs the analysis of an enzyme kinetics and the transport phenomena in the reaction part to analyze the sensor signal and to design the sensor. The enzyme inhibition kinetics was investigated and the reactor model was proposed to design the reaction part in the proposed sensor. Since the acetylcholinesterase was inhibited by the organophosphorus compounds, experiments for enzyme inhibition reaction were performed from 0 to 2 ppm to be detected by the developed sensor, and irreversible enzyme inhibition kinetics was proposed. The reactor parts were divided into the two phases, i.e. bulk phase and immobilized enzyme layer, to analyze the flow and diffusion. Sensor signal was able to be analyzed based on the total reactor model established by linking the enzyme reaction kinetics. Based on the proposed model, the effects of loading enzyme amount and enzyme layer thickness on the magnitude of readout signal were simulated.
Ion exchange membrane is widely used in various fields such as electro dialysis, diffusion dialysis, redox flow battery, fuel cell. PVC cation exchange membrane using ultrasonic modification was prepared by sulfonation reaction in various sulfonation times. Sulfuric acid was used as a sulfonating agent with ultrasonic condition. We've characterized basic structure of sulfonated PVC cation exchange membrane by FT-IR, EDX, water uptake, ion exchange capacity (IEC), electrical resistance (ER), conductivity, ion transport number and surface morphology (SEM). The presence of sulfonic groups in the sulfonated PVC cation exchange membrane was confirmed by FT-IR. The maximum values of water uptake, IEC, electrical resistance and ion transport number were 40.2%, 0.87 meq/g, $35.2{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ and 0.88, respectively.

Sulfur dioxide (SO$_2$), ozone, total suspended particulates (TSP) and PM$_{2.5}$ were measured at Deokjeok Island in the Yellow Sea during April 1999 to June 2000. Although the emission amount of air pollutants is quite low in this small island of 36 km$^2$ with 1.4 thousand inhabitants, there are pollutant sources such as an oil -firing power plant and a wharf for ferryboat. The island is also influenced from the emissions from the greater Seoul area in the east and from China in the west. In order to characterize the pollutant variations due to interactions between transport and local emissions. the correlation between variations of SO$_2$ and ozone was investigated. Mass and ion concentrations of TSP and PM$_{2.5}$ were examined on selected episode days of positive and negative correlations between the two gaseous species in spring and winter. The effects of transport were pronounced on the days of positive correlation in spring with higher concentrations of ozone and PM$_{2.5}$. TSP concentrations were also high on these days because of high wind speeds. On the days of negative correlation in spring, frequent fog associated with low wind speeds facilitated SO$_2$ oxidation and increased sulfate accompanied with decrease in nitrate in PM$_{2.5}$ and chloride in TSP. This latter phenomena was noticeable since it showed that chemical composition of fine particles could be significantly altered not only during the transport but also by local environment.ronment.

The high oxidants, which occur the daily maximum concentrations in the afternoon, are transported into the other region via long range transport mechanisms or trapped within the shallow mixing boundary layer and then removed physically (deposition, transport by mountain wind, etc.) and chemically (reaction with local sources). Therefore, modeling formation of photochemical oxidants requires a complex description of both chemical and meteorological processes. In this study, as a part of air quality studies, we reviewed various aspects of photochemical modeling on the basis of currently available literature. The result of the review shows that the model is based on a set of coupled continuity equations describing advection, diffusion, transport, deposition, chemistry, emission. Also photochemical oxidant models require a large amount of input data concerned with all aspects of the ozone life cycle. First, emission inventories of hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxides, with appropriate spatial and temporal resolution. Second, chemical and photochemical data allowing the quantitative description of the formation of ozone and other photochemically-generated secondary pollutants. Third, dry deposition mechanisms particularly for ozone, PAN and hydrogen peroxide to account for their removal by absorption on the ground, crops, natural vegetation, man-made and water surfaces. Finally, meteorological data describing the transport of primary pollutants away from their sources and of secondary pollutants towards the sensitive receptors where environmental damage may occur. In order to improve our present study, shortcomings and limitation of existing models are pointed out and verification process through observation is emphasized.

FeSi$_2$/Si Layer were grown using FeSi$_2$, Si wafer by the chemical transport reaction method. The directoptical energy gap was found to be 0.871ev at 300 K. The Hall effect is a physical effect arising in matter carrying electric current in the presence of a magnetic field. The effect is named after the American physicist E. H. Hall, who discovered it in 1879. In this paper, we study electrical properties of FeSi$_2$/Si layer And then we measured Hall coefficient Hall mobility, carrier density and Hall voltage according to variation magnetic field and temperature, Because of important Part for it application Various phase of silicide is formed at the metal-Si interface when transition metal contacts to Si. Silicides belong to metallic or semiconducting according to their electrical and optical properties. Metallic silicides are used as gate electrodes or interconnections in VLSI devices. Semiconducting silicides can be used as a new material for IR detectors because of their narrow energy band gap.
