In this study, we demonstrated that the nonenzymatic glucose sensor based on the flexible carbon fiber bundle electrode with BDD nanocomposites (CF-BDD electrode). As a nano seeding method for the deposition of BDD on flexible carbon fiber, electrostatic self-assembly technique was employed. Surface morphology of BDD coated carbon fiber electrode was observed by scanning electron microscopy. And the electrochemical characteristics were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and chronoamperometry. This CF-BDD electrode exhibited a large surface area, a direct electron transfer between the redox species and the electrode surface and a high catalytic activity, resulting in a wider linear range (3.75~50 mM), a faster response time (within 3 s) and a higher sensitivity (388.8 nA/mM) in comparison to a bare CF electrode. As a durable and flexible electrochemical sensing electrode, this brand new CF-BDD scheme has promising advantages on various electrochemical and wearable sensor applications.

Capacitive-type humidity sensors with a high sensitivity and fast response/recovery times have attracted a great attention in non-contact respiration biological signal monitoring applications. However, complicated fabrication processes involving high-temperature heat treatment for the hygroscopic film is essential in the conventional ceramic-based humidity sensors. In this study, a non-toxic ceramic/metal halide (BaTiO3(BT)/NaCl) humidity sensor was prepared at room temperature using a solvent-free aerosol deposition process (AD) without any additional process. Currently prepared BT/NaCl humidity sensor shows an excellent sensitivity (245 pF/RH%) and superior response/recovery times (3s/4s) due to the NaCl ionization effect resulting in an immense interfacial polarization. Furthermore, the non-contact respiration signal variation using the BT/NaCl sensor was determined to be over 700% by maintaining the distance of 20 cm between the individual and the sensor. Through the AD-fabricated sensor in this study, we expect to develop a non-contact biological signal monitoring system that can be applied to various fields such as respiratory disease detection and management, infant respiratory signal observation, and touchless skin moisture sensing button.
This study is a basic research for the development of high performance flexible electrode material. To enhance its electrochemical property, CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs) were introduced and dispersed on surface of CNT fiber through electrochemical deposition method. The CNT fiber/CuO NPs electrode was fabricated and applied to electrochemical non-enzymatic glucose sensor. Surface morphology and elemental composition of the CNT fiber/CuO NPs electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). And its electrochemical characteristics were investigated by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and chronoamperometry. The CNT fiber/CuO NPs electrode exhibited the good sensing performance for glucose detection such as high sensitivity, wide linear range, low detection limit and good selectivity due to synergetic effect of CNT fiber and CuO NPs. Based on the unique property of CNT fiber, CuO NPs were provide large surface area, enhanced electrocatalytic activity, efficient electron transport property. Therefore, it is expected to develop high performance flexible electrode materials using various nanomaterials.

Spiders detect even tiny vibrations through their vibrational sensory organs. Leveraging their exceptional vibration sensing abilities, they can detect vibrations caused by prey or predators to plan attacks or perceive threats, utilizing them for survival. This paper introduces a nanoscale crack-based sensor mimicking the spider's sensory organ. Inspired by the slit sensory organ used by spiders to detect vibrations, the sensor with the cracks detects vibrations and pressure with high sensitivity. By controlling the depth of these cracks, they developed a sensor capable of detecting external mechanical signals with remarkable sensitivity. This sensor achieves a gauge factor of 16,000 at 2% strain with an applied tensile stress of 10 N. With high signal-to-noise ratio, it accurately recognizes desired vibrations, as confirmed through various evaluations of external force and biological signals (speech pattern, heart rate, etc.). This underscores the potential of utilizing biomimetic technology for the development of new sensors and their application across diverse industrial fields.
A microfluidic system has been developed using biomaterial for the measurement of cupric ion concentration. The cell-membrane-mimicking bilayer lipid membrane(BLM)-coated silver electrode was used for the sensing of cupric ion concentration. The silver-supported BLM could increase its stability. A silver-supported bilayer lipid membrane(s-BLM) was easily obtained using its self-assembling characteristics by immersing silver wire into lipid(phosphatidylcholine; PC) solution and then dipping into aqueous KCl solution. These s-BLMs were used to determine the relationship between $Cu^{2+}$ concentration and current crossing s-BLM. Their relationship showed high linearity and reproducibility. The calibration curve was constructed to express the relationship between $Cu^{2+}$ concentration and current in the $Cu^{2+}$ concentration range of 10 and $130{\mu}M$. This calibration curve was used to measure $Cu^{2+}$ concentration in an unknown sample. Microfluidic system with s-BLM was made of PDMS(polydimethyl siloxane) using typical soft photolithography and molding technique. This integrated system has various functions such as activation of the silver surface without cutting silver wire, coating of BLM on silver surface, injection of KCl buffer solution, injection of $Cu^{2+}$ sample and measurement of $Cu^{2+}$ concentration in the sample.

Copper(II) oxide (CuO), electroless plated on a nitrogen-containing carbon sponge prepared by a melamine sponge thermal treatment, was developed as a nitric oxide (NO) gas sensor that operates without a wafer. The CuO content on the surface of the carbon sponge increased as the plating time increased, but the content of nitrogen known to induce NO gas adsorption decreased. The untreated carbon sponge showed a maximum resistance change (5.0%) at 18 min. On the other hand, the CuO plated sample (CuO30s-CS) showed a maximum resistance change of 18.3% in 8 min. It is considered that the improvement of the NO gas sensing capability was caused by the increase in hole carriers of the carbon sponge and improved movement of electrons due to CuO. However, the NO gas detection resistance of the CuO electroless plated carbon sponge for 60 s decreased to 1.9%. It is considered that the surface of the carbon sponge was completely plated with CuO, resulting in a decrease in the NO gas adsorption capacity and resistance change. Thus, CuO-plated carbon sponge can be used as an effective NO gas sensor because it has fast and excellent resistance change properties, but CuO should not be completely plated on the surface of the carbon sponge.

This paper present characteristics of chromium oxide thin-film as piezoresistive sensors, which were deposited on Si substrates by DC reactive magnetron sputtering in an argon-Oxide atmosphere for high temperature applications. The chemical composition, physical and electrical properties and thermal stability ranges of the $CrO_{x}$ sensing elements have studied. $CrO_{x}$ thin films with a linear gauge factor(GF${\fallingdotseq}$15), high electrical resistivity (${\rho}$ = $340{\mu}{\Omega}cm$) and TCR<-55 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ have been obtained. These $CrO_{x}$ thin films may allow high temperature pressure sensor miniaturization to be achieved.

Emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are one of the popular issues of air pollution in Korea, especially in Ulsan city, where much chemical plants are located. It is necessary to detect the VOCs precisely in order to control the air pollution during the plant operation. In general, to examine the concentration of VOCs, gas chromatography (GC) is used. However, most plant operators are using the easy operating handy VOCs detector, which is imported, because GC is difficult to treat and the installation price is high although it is very useful equipment. Therefore, the development of the VOCs detector becomes one of the urgent issues. In this study, sensing characteristics of selected VOCs for the development of VOCs detector was investigated. Semiconductor sensor and several VOCs such as aliphatic, aromatic, and non-homogeneous hydrocarbons were used for the experiment. Through the various experiments, sensor used in the experiment has shown high linearity and sensitivity for most VOCs in the range of 1 -500 ppm concentration.

A capacitance-type sensor using porous silicon layer is developed to measure aqueous alcohol concentration. Since alcohol, so called ethanol, is very permeable into the silicon wafer, it is often used to help chemical reaction when the silicon wafer is processed under some aqueous solution. In this work, the sensing property was measured for the alcohol concentration from zero to near 100 percent with two types of samples with porous silicon layer formed in 25 and 35% HF solution, respectively. Good reliability as well as fast response time and good linearity were shown over 10kHz and the measured capacitance was observed to be inverse to alcohol concentration due to the decrease of the whole dielectric constant in porous silicon layer.
This paper presents the optical hydrogen sensor based on transparent 3C-SiC membrane and photovoltaic effect. Gasochromic materials of Pd and Pd/$WO_3$ were deposited by sputter on 3C-SiC membrane for gas sensing area. Gasochromic materials change to transparency by exposure to hydrogen. The variations of light intensity by hydrogen generate the photovoltaic of P-N junction between N-type 3C-SiC and P-type Si. Single layer of Pd shows higher photovoltaic compared with Pd/$WO_3$. However, phase transition from ${\alpha}$ to ${\beta}$ is shown at 6 %. Pd/$WO_3$ structure show the more linear response to hydrogen range of 2 % ~10 %. Also, almost 2 times fast response and recovery characteristics are shown at Pd/$WO_3$. These fast performances are come from the fact that Pd promoted the chemical reaction between hydrogen and $WO_3$.
