  • A thermo-poro-elastic constitutive model of unidirectionally fiber-reinforced composite materials is suggested by extending the unmixing-mixing scheme which is based upon composite micromechanics. The strain components of thermal expansion due to a temperature change, gas pressure in pores, and chemical shrinkage are included in the constitutive model. On purpose to verify the derived constitutive relations, the representative volume element of two-dimensional lamina subject to various loading conditions is analyzed by the finite element method. The overall stress and strain responses are obtained, and compared with the predicted values by the unmixing-mixing scheme. The numerical results show the usefulness of the proposed model to predict the thermoelastic behavior of porous composites.

  • This experimental study was conducted to investigate macroscopic characteristics of the flash boiling spray with tow component mixing fuel. Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) is a newer combustion method for internal combustion engines to reduce nitrogen oxide and particulate matter simultaneously. But it is difficult to put this combustion method to practical use in an engine because of such problems as instability of combustion in low load operating conditions and knocking in high load operating conditions. In HCCI, combustion characteristics and exhaust emissions depend on conditions of air/fuel mixture and chemical reactions of fuel molecules. The fuel design approach is achieved by mixing two components which differ in properties such as density, viscosity, volatility, ignitability and so on. We plan to apply the fuel design approach to HCCI combustion generated in a real engine, and examine the possibility of mixture formation control using the flash boiling spray. Spray characteristics of two component fuel with a flash boiling phenomenon was investigated using Shlieren and Mie scattering photography. Test fuel was injected into a constant volume vessel at ambient conditions imitated injection timing BTDC of a real engine. As a result, it was found that a flash boiling phenomenon greatly changed spray structure, especially in the conditions of lower temperature and density. Therefore, availability of mixture formation control using flash boiling spray was suggested.

  • To study the influence of changes in river discharge on water quality of the main stem of the Geum River, we investigated variation of inflow load from tributaries with river discharge. We also studied the mixing behavior of pollutants during mixing of waters of the main stem and Gap Stream. For this study, we collected water quality data such as suspended solids (SS), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) representing pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon events of 2013 from a website of Water Information System. Based on inflow load, the Gap and Miho streams may be ones of tributaries which may largely influence water quality of main stem in upper river region. The Suksung and Nonsan Streams seemed to further affect water quality downstream. Results of modified EMMA indicated SS and TP may have another source(besides Gap Stream) at pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon period. In contrast, TN and organic matter (BOD, COD, TOC) were conservative at pre-monsoon and post-monsoon. However, when river discharge increased, these pollutants may also came from unspecified non-point sources. Therefore, we need to attempt to find non-point sources for the pollutants in the main channel of upper Geum River region.

  • Alternatives to commercial chemical herbicide are currently being searched and tested due to the numerous adverse effects of commercially available herbicides to the environment. Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crusgalli) is an important weed species around the world, especially in paddy rice fields. This study focuses on the favorable effects of mixing pyroligneous acids with commercial liquid herbicides. Seedlings were transplanted and grown under greenhouse conditions. The effect of treatment time or leaf-stage on herbicide-pyroligneous acid efficacies was checked, coupled with isolation and quantification of biochemical compounds. Results revealed that herbicide treatment at early post emergence (2~3 leaf stage) of Echnochloa crus-galli leads to effective control. Both liquid herbicides affected fatty acid, protein, and amino acid syntheses as reflected on their contents. The influence of wood vinegar (WV) or rice vinegar (RV) on these compounds was not thoroughly verified due to lack of information on the pyroligneous products. We observed that mixing WV or RV with BCB (bentazone + cyhalof-butyl) gives more favorable results than BUC (butachlor + clomazone), mixed with WV or RV. The result would indicate the potential of mixing pyroligneous acid in reducing herbicide application rate.

  • The configuration and arrangement of injector in LRE gas generator and combustor have a great impact on combustion process and heat exchange because of affecting atomization, vaporization, mixing and chemical reaction. A relation between injector array and mixing distribution of propellants based on a physical approach was investigated in this study. Programming method of this relation is used to predict mixing distribution of propellants. Simplicity of physical approach and various assumptions make it reduce the accuracy and application of the results of present study. But, this method is very useful to predict the mixing distribution of full scale combustor due to difficulties in cold flow testing.

  • Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films were synthesized on Si(100) wafers via plasma enhanced metal organic chemical vapor deposition (PE-MOCVD) method using diethyl zinc (DEZ) and N-methylpyrrolidine alane (MPA) as precursors. Effects of Al/Zn mixing ratio, plasma power on the surface morphology, crystal structure, and electrical property were investigated with SEM, XRD and 4-point probe measurement respectively. Growth rate of the film decreased slightly with increasing the Al/Zn mixing ratio, however electrical property was enhanced and resistivity of the film decreased greatly about 2 orders from $9.5{\times}10^{-1}$ to $8.0{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$ when the Al/Zn mixing ratio varied from 0 to 9 mol%. XRD analysis showed that the grain size increased with increasing the Al/Zn mixing ratio. Growth rate and electrical property were enhanced in a mild plasma condition. Resistivity of AZO film decreased down to $7.0{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm$ at an indirect plasma of 100 W condition which was enough value to use for the transparent conducting oxide (TCO) material.

  • Bottom ash classifies as a hazardous industrial-waste material that adversely affects human health. This study proposes its mixing with controlled low strength materials (CLSM) as a probable recycling approach. To this end, experiments have been performed to investigate the applicability of bottom-ash-based CLSM that comprises eco-friendly soil binders, water, fly ash, and a combination of bottom ash and weathered granite soil. The physical and chemical properties of the weathered granite soil, bottom ash, fly ash, and soil binders are analyzed via laboratory tests, including X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. To determine an appropriate CLSM mixing proportion, the flowability test is first performed on three mixture types having three replacement ratios of fly ash each. Subsequently, compressive-strength tests are performed. Based on the results of these tests, four mixtures are selected for the freeze-and-thaw test to determine the appropriate mixing proportion. Finally, the ground model and soil-contamination tests are performed to examine the field applicability of the mixture. This study confirms that bottom-ash-based CLSM causes negligible soil contamination, and it satisfies the prescribed performance requirements and contamination standards in Korea.

  • In this study, styrene butadiene rubber(SBR)/organoclay nanocomposites were manufactured using the latex method with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APTES) as a modifier. The X-ray diffraction(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) images, Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy, swelling ratio and mechanical properties were measured in order to study the interaction between filler and rubber according to the mixing temperature in the internal mixer. In the case of SBR/APTES-MMT compounds, the dispersion of the silicates within the rubber matrix was enhanced, and thereby, the mechanical properties were improved. The characteristic bands of Si-O-C in APTES disappeared after hydrolysis reaction in the MMT-suspension solution and the peak of hydroxyl group was increased. Therefore the formation of chemical bonds between the hydroxyl group generated from APTES on the silicate surface and the ethoxy group of bis(triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide(TESPT) was possible. Consequently, the 300% modulus of SBR/APTES-MMT compounds was further improved in the case of using TESPT as a coupling agent. However, the silanization reaction between APTES and TESPT was not affected significantly according to the increase of mixing temperature in the internal mixer.

  • The wafer's size has been increased up to 300mm according as the devices have been integrated sophisticatedly. For this process to make 300mm-wafer, it is required strict level which removes the particulates on the surface of wafer. Therefore we need new type wet-station which can reduce DI water and chemical in the cleaning process. Moreover, it is very important to control the temperature and the concentration of chemical wet-stat ion. The chemical supply system which is used currently is not only difficult to make a fit mixing rate of chemical in cleaning process, but also it is difficult to make fit quantity and temperature. We propose new chemical supply system, which overcomes the problems via analysis of fluid and thermal transfer on chemical supply system,

It is important that to discharge chemical with fit concentration and temperature using chemical supply system for clean process. The chemical supply system which is used currently is not only difficult to make a fit mixing rate of chemical which is need in clean process, but also difficult to make fit concentration and temperature. Moreover, it has high stability but it is inefficient spatially because its volume is great.
