A series of octahedral cobalt(III) complexes involving quadridentate bissalicylaldehyde ethylenediimine (SAED) chelating ligand have been prepared as a new compound: [$Co(SAED)X_2]^+,$ where X = ammonia, pyridine, and bidentate ethylenediamine. Properties and configuration of the complexes were studied by the chemical and physical method.

New chelating ligands, thiocatechol and p-chlorothiocatechol, have been synthesized and the acid dissociation constants were determined by potentiometric method in 50% dioxane-water; $pK_1 \;and\; pK_2$ were 7.28, 10.97 for thiocatechol and 6.37, 10.22 for p-chlorothiocatechol, respectively. Color reactions with various metal ions were studied. It was found that the above ligands are specific for Bi(III), Mo(VI) and W(VI) as an analytical reagent.

This presentation highlights work from the authors' laboratories on the various kinds of oxide optical materials, mainly luminescence and pigment materials with different forms (powder, core-shell structures, thin film and patterning) prepared by the Pechini-type sol-gel (PSG) process. The PSG process which uses the common metal salts (nitrates, acetates, chlorides etc) as precursors and citric acid (CA) as chelating ligands of metal ions and polyhydroxy alcohol (such as ethylene glycol or poly ethylene glycol) as cross-linking agent to form a polymeric resin on molecular level, allowing the preparation of many forms of luminescent materials.

Artemisia vulgaris essential oil exhibited a strong metal chelating activity but withlow reducing power, and radical scavenging activity. However, a gradual increase in the radical scavenging activity was obtained with increasing concentration and reaction time.

Dithiocarbamoic acid and their derivatives were found to readily react with potassium and sodium hydroxide to give the corresponding alkali metal dithiocarbamoic acid derivatives 8-17 in moderate to good yields.
