A Three-Phase High Frequency Semi-Controlled Battery Charging Power Converter for Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles

  • This paper presents a novel analysis, design, and implementation of a battery charging three-phase high frequency semi-controlled power converter feasible for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The main advantages of the proposed topology include high efficiency; due to lower power losses and reduced number of switching elements, high output power density realization, and reduced passive component ratings proportionally to the frequency. Additional advantages also include grid economic utilization by insuring unity power factor operation under different possible conditions and robustness since short-circuit through a leg is not possible. A high but acceptable total harmonic distortion of the generator currents is introduced in the proposed topology which can be viewed as a minor disadvantage when compared to traditional boost rectifiers. A hysteresis control algorithm is proposed to achieve lower current harmonic distortion for the rectifier operation. The rectifier topology concept, the principle of operation, and control scheme are presented. Additionally, a dc-dc converter is also employed in the rectifier-battery connection. Test results on 50-kHz power converter system are presented and discussed to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed topology for PHEV applications.

  • 전기 자전거 또는 전동 킥보드와 같은 소형 전동차량은 차량에 장착된 배터리를 충전하여 운행되는데,이들 이용자 중 일부는 공동주택이나 공공시설물에 설치된 비상용 전기 소켓을 시설물 허락 없이 이용하는 경우가 늘어나고 있다. 이와 같은 사유로 간단한 설비 구축만으로 전력의 사용을 승인 받고 아울러 이용 요금을 즉시 지불할 필요성이 건물관리자는 물론 소형 차량 이용자들로부터 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 공동주택이나 공공건물에 기 설치된 15[A] 전기 소켓에 급전제어장치를 추가로 설치하여 1[kW] 이하의 소형 전동차량에 장착된 배터리를 충전하여 사용할 수 있는 기법을 제안한다. 또한 전력 사용자 승인 알고리즘과 사용된 요금의 부과 방안에 대하여도 기술한다. 본 연구의 결과로 소형 전동차량에 장착된 배터리를 손쉽게 충전할 수 있는 환경을 조성함으로써 도전(electricity theft) 방지 효과를 가진 사용자인증 전력공급시스템을 구현한다.

Dual Rotor 풍력발전을 이용한 선박에서의 효과적인 풍향 풍속 측정 (Efficient Measurement of Wind Velocity and Direction Using Dual Rotor Wind Power Generator in Vessel)

  • This paper proposes an efficient measurement system for the velocity and direction of the wind using the dual rotor wind power generator in vessel. Conventional digital measurement system recognizes the direction and the velocity of the wind using the electric compass or synchronous motor and Vane probe method using hall sensors. But each system has its own short-comings: the synchronous motor has a larger measurement error than the magnetic compass and magnetic compass is weak for the external disturbances such as fluctuation of the vessel. To compensate these short-comings, this paper proposes a new compensation algorithm for the fluctuation errors according to the external interference and the unexpected movement of the vessel along the roll and pitch directions. The proposed system is implemented with the dual compasses and a synchronous motor. The proposed independent power generation system can be operated by itself and can raise the efficiency of the wind power generation systems of 30 ~ 400 W installed along the vertical and horizontal axes. The proposed system also realizes the efficient and reliable power production system by the MPPT algorithm for the real-time recognition of the wind direction and velocity. An advanced switching algorithm for the battery charging system has been also proposed. Effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been verified through the real experiments and the results are demonstrated.

Cell-balancing Algorithm for Paralleled Battery Cells using State-of-Charge Comparison Rule

  • The inconsistencies between paralleled battery cells are becoming more considerable issue in high capacity battery applications like electric vehicles. Due to differences in state-of-charge (SOC) and internal resistance within individual cells in parallel, charging or discharging current is not appropriately balanced to each cell in terms of SOC, which may shorten the lifetime or sometimes cause safety issues. In this paper, an intelligent cell-balancing algorithm is proposed to overcome the inconsistency issue especially for paralleled battery cells. In this scheme, SOC information collected in the sub-BMS module is sent to the main-BMS module, where the number of parallel cells to be connected to DC bus is continuously updated based on the suggested SOC comparison rule. To verify the method, operation of the algorithm on 4 paralleled battery cells are simulated on Matlab/Simulink. The simulation result shows that the SOCs of paralleled cells are evenly redistributed. It is expected that the proposed algorithm provides high reliable and prolong the life cycle and working capacity of the battery pack.

  • Power system restoration following a massive blackout starts with re-energizing primary transmission lines at first. Some factors such as Ferranti effect, and line charging reactive power should be considered in this stage. Severe overvoltage may be induced by the Ferranti effect at the lines since it would be usually no load condition. And lack of capacitive reactive power will cause the self-excitation. This paper presents a new precise algorithm to analyze the primary restorative transmission system focused on the two major static overvoltage problems during the early restoration process.

  • In this paper, a novel MBE (Model Based target size Estimator) is presented for SDIIR (Strap Down Imaging Infrared) seekers. The target tracking requires the target size information for which residual range between target and missile should be provided. Unfortunately, in general, the missile with passive sensor such as IIR (Imaging Infrared), CCD (Coupled Charging Device) cannot obtain range information. To overcome the problem, the proposed method enables the SDIIR seeker to estimates target size by using target size model and track the target. The performance of proposed method is tested at IIR target tracking of target intercept scenario. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has the relatively good performance.

  • Battery cells are connected in parallel to enlarge the system capacity. However, cell inconsistency may reduce the overall system capacity and cause the over-charging or over-discharging issue. This paper proposes a SOC-based sequencing equalizer for parallel-connected battery configuration that uses the ANFIS (adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system) algorithm to make the switching decision. Depend on the load current and the SOC (state-of-charge) rate of cells, the switching decision is made to equalize the SOC of the battery cells. The simulation results show that the system capacity is maximized and the controller is adaptive for a large number of parallel-connected in dynamic load profile.

  • In this paper, a control algorithm of a stand-alone type photovoltaic/wind/diesel hybrid power system for operation in a remote island, is proposed in detail. Power controllers are used to combine two different power outputs of photovoltaic and wind-power generations into DC output, which is converted into AC power to meet load while charging the storage battery for later use. In the event that the whole power load cannot be met by photovoltaic and wind power only, power stored in the battery cell is supplied and if even this power run out, diesel generator will be applied. Certain portion of diesel power is used to cover the load and the other to charge the battery.

  • In an electric vehicle driving system, the regeneration power charging the battery with electricity is applied as the driver controls the brake. This paper is proposed a torque compensation algorithm that can regenerate due to extend regeneration area at the low speed of EV system. In order to verify the proposed method, PSIM simulation is performed and it is confirmed that regeneration occurred the proposed method is regenerated at low speed by comparing the existing method with the proposed method.

  • Based on the problems of untimely Expressway fire rescue and backward traditional fire rescue methods, an emergency fire fighting and inspection robot riding on expressway guardrail is designed. The overall mechanical structure design of emergency fire fighting and inspection robot riding on expressway guardrail is completed by using three-dimensional design software. The target fire detection is realized by using the target detection algorithm of Yolov5; By selecting a variety of sensors and using the control method of multi algorithm fusion, the basic function of robot on duty early warning is realized, and it has the ability of intelligent fire extinguishing. The BMS battery charging and discharging system is used to detect the real-time power of the robot. The design of the expressway emergency fire fighting and inspection robot provides a new technical means for the development of emergency fire fighting equipment, and improves the reliability and efficiency of expressway emergency fire fighting.
