Electrokinetic Characterization of the Fouled PP Membrane in the Separation of Oily Wastes

  • The work was initiated to investigate the electrokinetic properties of a MF membrane using streaming potential measurement when oil emulsion was separated. The original and the surface modified PP membrane were examined by using flux and streaming potentials for the characterization of fouling phenomena of the PP membrane. The membrane surface was modified by a radiation grafting technique. The streaming potentials of the PP membranes were varied the charge distribution modifying by changing the pH, ionic strength, and concentrations the surfactants in oil emulsion. The shiftness to the more positive values of isoelectric point of the PP membrane was significant especially in the presence of surfactants or the surface modification.

전기부상법을 이용한 토양세정 유출수 중 유수분리에 관한 연구

  • 전기분해에 의한 부상현상을 이용하여 토양세정 후 발생되는 유출수 중의 유수를 분리하기 위한 적정 운전조건에 관하여 고찰하였다. 전압에 의한 유수분리 효율을 관찰한 결과, 전기분해 1시간 후 3V의 전압만으로도 88% 정도의 제거율을 나타내었으며 6V 이상의 전압에서는 90% 정도로 거의 비슷한 제거율을 나타내어 대부분의 에멀젼이 분리됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 동일조건에서는 전기분해 시간이 경과될 수록 분리효율이 향상되었으며, 전극 간격이 넓어질수록 같은 효율을 얻기 위해 소요되는 전압의 크기가 커짐을 알 수 있었다. 전기분해 시 양극에서는 OH$^{-}$의 방전으로 발생되는 산소에 의해 산화반응이 일어나며, 음극에서는 H$^{+}$가 방전되어 발생되는 수소에 의해 환원반응이 일어나며 미세한 기포가 형성된다. 유분의 부상분리 현상은 유분의 (-)charge와 전기분해에 의해서 발생되는 양이온의 결합으로 인한 중화반응 및 음극에서 발생되는 미세 수소기포로 인만 부상분리가 대부분을 차지하며, 전압 및 전기분해 시간이 증가하고 전극 간격이 좁을수록 음극에서 발생되는 미세기포의 양이 증가되어 부상효과가 크게 나타나는 것으로 판단된다. 전극 종류는 구리 > 알루미늄 > 철 > 티타늄 순으로 효율을 나타내었으며, 이는 양극으로 사용된 이러한 금속들의 전기전도도 차이에 의해 일어나는 현상으로 판단된다

Anatomical Differentiation and Photosynthetic Adaptation in Brown Algae

  • The photosynthetic parameters of dark- adapted minimum fluorescence (Fo) and maximum quantum yield of charge separation in PSII (Fv/Fm) were measured in transverse sections of eight species of marine Phaeophyceae (species of Laminariales, Fucales, Desmarestiales, Chordariales) using pulse amplified modulation (PAM) fluorometry. Within each transverse section fluorescence was measured in three regions corresponding to outer cortical and meristoderm cells, inner cortical cells and innermost medullary cells. Minimum fluorescence declined from 19-74% (mean of 39%) from outermost to innermost cells. Maximum quantum yield varied from 0.51-0.59 in outermost cell layers and this was reduced to 0.23-0.40 in innermost cell layers, with an average reduction of 50%. Despite the reduction Fo in medullary cells (inner), medullas of all species showed maximum quantum yields consistent with a photosynthetic role in carbon fixation. These results show that medullary cells of complex brown algae have more than a role in structure, storage or transport, and may also provide an important role in carbon fixation.

  • For cautious controlled blasting, it is necessary to understand characteristics of the blasting vibration. In this study, a series of tests were carried out to investigate the several characteristics of blasting vibration waveform by vibration time history analysis. Separation between impulse vibration and free vibration from blasting vibration, duration time, effects of overlap of free vibration upon the level of vibration and changes of waveform according to increase of charge weight per delay etc. were studied with waveform analysis.

  • We have measured the Hall effect in infinite-layer Sr/sub 0.9/La/sub 0.1/$CuO_2$ thin films grown by molecular beam epitaxy. We do not observe $T^{2}$ dependence of the cotangent of Hall angle, which is commonly observed in other cuprate High-Tc superconductors. Therefore, this result cannot be interpreted within two different scattering mechanism based on charge-spin separation theory. The mixed-state Hall effect shows no sign anomaly, implying that tile hydrodynamic contribution of vortex core is negligibly small.

  • The formation mechanism and photocatalytic properties of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/$TiO_2$-based nanotube (TNTs) composite are investigated. The CNT/TNT composite is synthesized via a solution chemical route. It is confirmed that this 1-D nanotube composite has a core-shell nanotubular structure, where the TNT surrounds the CNT core. The photocatalytic activity investigated based on the methylene blue degradation test is superior to that of with pure TNT. The CNTs play two important roles in enhancing the photocatalytic activity. One is to act as a template to form the core-shell structure while titanate nanosheets are converted into nanotubes. The other is to act as an electron reservoir that facilitates charge separation and electron transfer from the TNT, thus decreasing the electron-hole recombination efficiency.

  • The chemical behavior and properties on the redox state of environmental pollutant has been investigated by electrochemical methods. We carried out to measure the variations in the redox reaction of differential pulse polarogram and cyclic voltammogram. The results observed the influences on redox potential and current of various factors with temperature and pH. These were established factors as the effect of the redox reaction. It can be clearly recognized that the electrode reaction are from qusi-reversible to irreversible processes. Also, it was mixing with reaction current controlled. The bits-phenol A in the waste water was made to compound with cobalt ion and it take away from the separation into compound. The $Co(BPA)_2$ compound was not found to be dissociation in waste water. However, this compound is avery unstable(K=1.02) and for a while, it was to be a dissociation. Therefore, we believed that it was likely to a toxic substance.

  • Recently doped perovskite manganites have renewed interest because they exhibit a variety of unique magnetic and electronic behaviors such as colossal magnetoresistance (CMR), percolative phase separation, spin/charge/orbital ordering, and so on.   • The study was to examine the effect on the thinking of environmental preservation and behavior of dietary life control on discharging behavior of food wastes in household. The data were obtained from 443 homemakers living in Seoul. The statistical techniques used for this study included descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Multiple Regression Analysis. As the result of analyzing relative effects of factors on discharging behavior of food wastes, for the degree of separation and discharge of food wastes and general wastes, they further actively separated and discharged them when they lived in public house(apartment, villa, tenement house), they had direct charge of dietary life, they had further serious thinking of environmental preservation, and they lived further diligent lives.

  • This paper presents a recursive least square estimation algorithm to estimate parameters of the vector controlled induction machine based on measurements of the stator voltage, curents and slip frequency. Due to its recursive structure, this algorithm has the potential to be used for on-line estimation and adaptive control. The algorithm is designed using regression model derived from the motor electrical equation. This model is valid when there is a tittle-scale separation between vector control system and adaptive system. Vector control performed at fast stage and slow stage is in charge of parameters estimation. The performance of tile algorithm is illustrated by means of simulation results and experiment.
