Egg development and early life history of the slender shinner, $Pseudopungtungia$$tenuicorpa$ were investigated to provide basic information regarding biological characteristics and restoration in 2010. Eggs were obtained by injecting females with Ovaprim and then fertilized using the dry method in the laboratory. Matured eggs were strongly adhesive, opaque and grayish and measured $1.96{\pm}0.08mm$(mean${\pm}$SD) in diameter. Fertilized eggs hatched 240 h after fertilization at $23^{\circ}C$, and newly hatched larvae an average $8.6{\pm}0.25mm$ in total length. At 2 days after hatching, larvae averaged $9.0{\pm}0.37mm$ in total length and their yolk sacs had been completely absorbed. About at 10 days after hatching, they beacme to juvenile stage and reached $10.6{\pm}0.44mm$ in total length. At 70 days after hatching, the band patterns and external form of juveniles were similar to those of adults, and they averaged $36.0{\pm}2.13mm$ in total length.
Morphological characteristics of Mesocestoides lineatus tetrathyridia collected from Chinese snakes and their adults recovered from experimental animals were studied. The tetrathyridia were detected mainly in the mesentery of 2 snake species, Agkistrodon saxatilis (25%) and Elaphe schrenckii (20%). They were 1.73 by 1.02 mm in average size and had an invaginated scolex with 4 suckers. Adult tapeworms were recovered from 2 hamsters and 1 dog, which were orally infected with 5-10 larvae each. Adults from hamsters were about 32 cm long and those from a dog were about 58 cm long. The scolex was 0.56 mm in average width with 4 suckers of 0.17 by 0.15 mm in average size. Mature proglottids measured 0.29 by 0.91 mm (av.). Ovaries and vitellaria bilobed and located in the posterior portion of proglottids. The cirrus sac was oval-shaped and located median. Testes were follicular, distributed in both lateral fields of proglottids, and 41-52 in number per proglottid. Gravid proglottids were 1.84 by 1.39 mm (av.) with a characteristic paruterine organ. Eggs were 35 by $27{\mu}m$ in average size with a hexacanth embryo. These morphological characteristics of adult worms were identical with those of M. lineatus reported previously. Therefore, it has been confirmed that the tetrathyridia detected in 2 species of Chinese snakes are the metacestodes of M. lineatus, and 2 snake species, A. saxatilis and E. schrenckii, play the role of intermediate hosts.
Chitinase AO-801 is a hydrolase secreted by Arthrobotrys oligospora during nematode feeding, while its role remained elusive. This study analyzed the molecular characteristics of recombinant chitinase of Arthrobotrys oligospora (reAO-801). AO-801 belongs to the typical glycoside hydrolase 18 family with conserved chitinase sequence and tertiary structure of (α/β)8 triose-phosphate isomerase (TIM) barrel. The molecular weight of reAO-801 was 42 kDa. reAO-801 effectively degraded colloidal and powdered chitin, egg lysate, and stage I larval lysate of Caenorhabditis elegans. The activity of reAO-801 reached its peak at 40℃ and pH values between 4-7. Enzyme activity was inhibited by Zn2+, Ca2+, and Fe3+, whereas Mg2+ and K+ potentiated its activity. In addition, urea, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and 2-mercaptoethanol significantly inhibited enzyme activity. reAO-801 showed complete nematicidal activity against C. elegans stage I larvae. reAO-801 broke down the C. elegans egg shells, causing them to die or die prematurely by hatching the eggs. It also invoked degradation of Haemonchus contortus eggs, resulting in apparent changes in the morphological structure. This study demonstrated the cytotoxic effect of reAO-801, which laid the foundation for further dissecting the mechanism of nematode infestation by A. oligospora.

The giant mealworm beetle, Zophobas atratus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), is a tropical beetle. As this beetle can be used as an ingredient in animal feed, the effects of brewer's spent grain (BSG) on the development and nutritional value of Z. atratus were investigated. As results, there were no significant differences on the larval survival rate, body weight, and duration at different content of BSG, mixed with conventional feed, wheat bran (WB). Based on these results, BSG can be mixed with wheat bran as a Z. atratus food ingredient without any problems. The nutritional value was compared between 100% wheat bran control and 50% BSG experimental groups. The moisture, crude protein, carbohydrates, and amino acids were 1.1-1.4 times higher in the 50% BSG group. In the BSG group, the linoleic acid content was 1.6 times higher than that in the control group. In the wheat bran group, the oleic acid content was 38.4%, which was 1.3 times higher than that in the BSG group. As minerals, the control and BSG groups showed high potassium and phosphorus contents. In terms of hazardous materials, four heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium) and two microorganisms (Escherichia coli and Salmonella spp.) were not detected. There were no significant differences in developmental characteristics between the wheat bran and BSG mixed groups, and the nutritional values were better in the BSG mixed group. Therefore, BSG can be used as alternative food source for rearing Z. atratus.
This study was carried out to investigated the developmental characteristics and spatial distribution of mango shield scale, Protopulvinaria mangiferae injuring to Elaeocarpus sylvestris(Lour.) This mango shield scale is parthenogentic. The oviparous female have three larval stages and adult. This species has two generation a year. The crawlers of the 1st generation emerged from late may to middle July, and those of the 2nd generation from early August to early October. Their emergence reached its peak in early part of the occurrence period. The crawlers disperse from 10 to 14 o'clock from ventral side of the adult and more than 90% had settled with in 8 hours on the leaves of E. sylvestris. The larvae and adults were distributed contagiously between trees. The adult densities were higher in the lower part of the crown than those in the middle or upper parts. But differents in densities were not significant among four directions. The distribution of the adult scales per leaf cluster showed an aggregation with a slightly colonized pattern.

This study investigated host range, seasonal occurrence and developmental characteristics of Ceroplastes pseudoceriferus Green on persimmon trees. The host plants covered 34 families and 66 species, including newly recorded species of Chenopodum album var. centrorubrum, Glycine max, Begonia semperflorens, Pharbitis nil, Perilla frutescens var. japonica and Erigeron canadensis. There was one generation of C. pseudoceriferus a year with larval stage expanding from mid-June to mid-October. Average number of eggs laid per female was 1,073$\pm$177.3. Hatching rate was 97.3% and was not affected by temperatures and photoperiods. Stadium varied as 23.4 days in eggs, 128.3 days in larvae and 213.3 days in female adults including overwintering periods at natural condition.
Morphological characteristics and life cycle of Udea ferrugalis (Hubner) attacking Angelica utilis were studied in 1995 and 1996. Egg of U. ferrugalis was oval-shaped with light-gray. Larva was milk white or light yellow color with 1.50-14.6 mm body length, depending on their developmental stages from 1st to 5th instar. Pupa were deep-brown with 8.2-9.7 mm length. Adults were brown color and body lengths were 10.1 mm and 8.3 mm and wing expanse lengths were 18.5 mm and 16.6mm with female and male, respectively. At 20$^{\circ}$C, each developmently periods was 5.81, 19.0, 3.46 and 1 l.0days with egg, larvae, pre-pupae, and pupae, respectively. Also adult longevitys were 10.13 for female and 9.8 days for male. Average number of egg were 238.5 and 248.8 at 20$^{\circ}$C and 30$^{\circ}$C, respectively. A total of 12 species host plants were identified in the outdoor observation in Chungbuk province.
This study was conducted to investigated the distribution, ecological character and life cycle of Black Soldier Fly(BSF), Hermetia illucens, to determine effects of BSF on composing ability to the livestock feces. The distribution of BSF was defined in all parts of the country in Korea. Its main habitat was found to be areas near cattle sheds, feces sheds, living waste dump grounds, and food waste dump grounds. Excellent species of the bio-conversion using the livestock feces were selected out of two kinds of solider flies(Hermetia illucens and Ptecticus tenebrifer). And effects of BSF on composing ability to the livestock feces were pig feces 0.5 g, cattle feces 0.43 g and chicken feces 0.3 g per a larvae of BSF. In the examination of the ability of BSF to decompose food waste, volume of the livestock feces decreased by weight pig feces 77, cattle feces 83.62 and chicken feces 80%. Observed characteristics of BSF larvae and pupae stage were by developmental stage may be summarized as follows: size and length of larvae and pupae of BSF were higher than in pig feces and mixed sawdust treatments. In order to develop artificial indoor rearing techniques, The pupation and emergence rate were not visible the difference but important factor of the mating and egg-laying was a sun light. And it was visible the difference in mating ratio. Mating rate of H. illucens by seasonal change was the highest from May to July. Mating mostly occurred between 10 : 00 and 12 : 00 during which light intensity is high. As the egg-laying medium for artificial egg collection, calf feed and food waste were most effective. The ratio of egg-laying medium is waste food : sawdust(1 : 1) in volume. For egg-laying materials, flower foam and wood with holes were used; holes sized 3 ~ 5 mm in diameter, 7 ~ 10 mm in depth were most preferred for egg-laying.
The objective of this study was to examine the early growth of haddock, Melanogrammus aeglefinus larvae from a series of reared specimens for provide information to developmental biology and more information on the aspect of aquaculture in the larvae of this species. Larvae were reared in the laboratory and sampled periodically for developmental study until 67 days after hatching. An increase in total length of fish indicated continuous growth, described by the growth expression of the type $TL=3.5374e^{0.0536X}(r^2=0.8759$, where TL is total length and X is at days after hatching) and $BW=0.0002e^{0.1858X}(r^2=0.8671$, where BW is body weight and X is at days after hatching), respectively. Pattern of body depth and pectoral fin length are instantaneous growth which expression of the type $BD=0.3545e^{0.0778X},\;r^2=0.9563$(where BD is body depth and X is at days after hatching) for body depth growth and the type $PL=0.0111e^{0.1591X},\;r^2=0.9194$(where PL is pectoral fin length and X is at days after hatching) for pectoral fin length growth. The relationship of body depth and total length expressed as $BD=0.2397X-0.5735(r^2=0.9957$, where BD is body depth and X is total length), and pectoral fin length and total length is $PL=0.1929X-1.3767(r^2=0.9882$, where PL is pectoral fin length and X is total length) pectoral fin length against body depth simultaneously recorded for juvenile haddock(PL=0.8117BD-0.9718, $r^2=0.9814$, where PL is pectoral fin length and BD is body depth). Relationship of body depth and body weight was expressed the type of $BD=-9.4734X^2+19.046X+1.3672,\;r^2=0.941$(where BD is body depth and X is body weight), and pectoral fin length and body weight expressed the type of $PL=6.379X^2+14.023X+0.3774,\;r^2=0.9494$(where PL is pectoral fin length and X is body weight). From this point view, growth characteristics of juvenile haddock in this experiment may be useful to establish a successful culture technique for rearing larval haddock.
