The fashion market is expanding and competition is intensifying due to the contraction of consumption in response to the economic recession and changes in trends. In this study, design characteristics reflecting the brand identity and trend are analyzed as important factors for success. In this study, we will look at the design characteristics of knitwear among SPA brand products and help to plan knit designs. First, six brands were selected based on the sales and the number of stores in domestic and foreign SPA brands. The selected brands include UNIQLO, ZARA, H&M, SPAO, TOPTEN, and 8Seconds. We have selected weft knitting knitwear products(1,736 pieces), which are currently sold in domestic and foreign SPA brands, as silhouette items, knitwear design items, gauges, colors, patterns, images, and items as analysis items to analyze the causes of the differences in the design characteristics of domestic and foreign knitwear. The SPA brand has a wide range of tattoo floors, emphasizing practical aspects, a silhouette that fits the body, and a comfortable daily style. Domestic and foreign SPA brands did not show much difference, but Korean brands had a lower diversity of organization and used color for stable sales, showing a lower concern in trend and strong point color applications. If foreign brands pursue femininity based on a sexy image, Korean brands displayed a difference, emphasizing cute images. As for other design factors, it was found that brand identity was reflected more than domestically. As the cycle of trends becomes shorter, fast fashion is expected to continue in the future, and it is hoped that this research will be used as useful data for design projects of domestic companies.
Purpose - This paper empirically studies the effects of advanced design innovation strategy on business performance, to investigate manufacturing industries that can develop design-driven-innovation strategies. Many researchers now recognize the importance of design in a CEO's decision-making process. To analyze these effects, this study deduces the definition of advanced design strategy by reviewing existing studies. The advanced design is a strategy that is applied to improve business performance instead of the appearance of a product for increasing its sales. In terms of business processes, the advanced design strategy is defined as the incorporation of business activities prior to the development of the product, to offer new experiences and values to users, from those designs. Research design/data/methodology - This paper establishes a model for empirical analysis. In this study, we derived factors of the characteristics of advanced design based on previous studies. We tried to investigate whether advanced design innovation strategy and entrepreneur's characteristics could have any impact on business performance. At the same time, we tried to find out the moderating effect of entrepreneurs' characteristics. The advanced design is made up of three elements: precedence, integration, and immersion of design activities. These three elements are independent variables for the model. The dependent variables are: increased rate of sales, R & D performance, and public image of the company. Specifically, this study establishes a CEO's characteristics as a moderating variable between the independent and dependent variables. Results - We proved that the level of entrepreneurs' characteristics has a moderating effect on the business performance. The findings of this study offer the following theoretical implications. The precedence of design activities positively affects the increased rate of sales by offering new experiences to users and creating new values. The integration of design activities also has a positive effect on the R&D performance. In addition, the immersion of design activities positively influences all the elements comprising business performance. The analysis of moderating variables elucidates that CEO's characteristics have a moderating role between precedence, integration, and immersion of design activities, and business performance. Conclusions - The practical implications of the study are as follows. This study contributes to the progression of advance design theories by conducting an empirical study on the advanced design concept. More importantly, the empirical study on the CEO group seeking exploratory innovation supports Verganti's "design-driven innovation" concept, according to which design can make innovation successful by offering useful values to users, as evident in the case of many innovative companies, such as Nintendo and Apple. Future studies need to investigate the reliability of practical examples, including the various activities of business. We suppose that there may be real differences between the results of this study and the applicative situation in the presence of a CEO group.

In terms of representing interior spaces and perceiving interior spaces, the dynamic characteristic is more helpful than the static characteristic because the dynamic characteristic provides consecutively changing views of interior spaces when people walk around within the spaces. The stereoscopic characteristic is more helpful than the monoscopic characteristic because the stereoscopic characteristic provides the binocular depth perception. Full-scale models, small-scale models, virtual reality that have dynamic and stereoscopic characteristics, are most effective. The next effective methods are video taping of models and computer animation that have dynamic and monoscopic characteristics. The last effective methods are perspectives and photography of models that have static and monoscopic characteristics. But the most effective methods can not be said that those are perfect because each of them still has limits. The smart fashion industry is showing steady growth worldwide, which will create new value throughout the fashion industry and become an essential element for efficient lifestyles. This study attempted to examine the development trend of smart fashion products from a design perspective and present the direction of design as a fashion item incorporating smart technology from a functional perspective. For this purpose, the category of portable smart fashion and the characteristics of the research object were considered through current status survey and previous research review. Among smart fashion, accessories and clothing/fabric products that have been released thus far that apply portable fashion design principles are selected and its characteristics are analyzed. In addition, function keywords were extracted based on the product description provided by the manufacturer and the function-oriented types were classified to identify each type's design characteristics. Therefore, the area receiving the signal and the sensor size should be considered, as should the fashion accessory type that combines various materials and colors. The clothing/textile type requires a design that mainly focuses on functions related to bio-signal interactions.
Arata Isozaki is one of the Japan's most important contemporary architects with an international reputation and has designed notable buildings in Asia, Europe, and the United States. Arata Isozaki is not an architect simply explained by a single ism or style, he has dedicated himself to express all diversities implied in different periods and styles. With an avant-garde spirit and enthusiastic creativity, he has devoted all his efforts to bring these diversities and complexities into his own architectural works. The study was aimed to identify the key characteristics implied in his overall design concept. Through the analysis of his works, the key features underlined in his works were characterized by five key words, which are tradition, eclectic, metaphor, metabolism and proportion. These five characteristics have been well Presented in his works individually and sometimes as a whole. His unique combination among these key design concepts has been impressed by many other architects in worldwide.

In this paper to develop pillar structure design technique considering low frequency vibration characteristics, strain energy method, design sensitivity analysis method, and design optimization method using commercial finite element analysis program and optimization program are presented.
This study has attempted to investigate the effect of cubism on fashion and figure out how its formative characteristics have been expressed in contemporary fashion in the 21st century, focusing on the period since 2010. The propose of the study is to broaden research scope in fashion design through analysis and inspection on formative aspects among the cases which have proposed brand - new fashion designs by adapting cubism in fashion. To find out the characteristics of cubism in painting and formative characteristics of contemporary fashion in which the characteristics of cubism are reflected, a literature review has been conducted by referring to domestic and foreign books, previous papers, academic journals and Internet resources on cubism. For an empirical study, in addition, photos of cubism-applied modern fashion have been collected and analyzed through http://www. samsungdesign.net. The following results have been obtained: First, the formative characteristics of cubism were obtained in following categories; character of figure, simultaneity, reiteration and facticity. Second, according to analysis on cases after applying the formative characteristics on contemporary fashion design, the character of figure by the geometric shape of cubism was observed in fashion as well. After dismantling and reconfiguring garments, simultaneity has been expressed in an exaggerated and distorted manner through regular and repetitive overlapping or overlapping of irregular shapes. In terms of facticity, novelty has been delivered with the use of heterogeneous materials, using collage and patchwork techniques. Third, simplicity and functionality in cubism - style garments in the early 20th century have disappeared in contemporary design in the 21st century. Now, a dynamic aspect is only found. Fourth, unlike common paintings, 2D textiles are added to a 3D body in fashion design. In addition, it can be observed from multiple angles depending on the movement so that it can display more diverse shapes. Therefore, it could be the origin of inspiration to many designers.
Street furniture such as benches, streetlamps, and shades which are easily accessible in cities has contributed to the promotion of active, lively environment for people living in cities. Furthermore, they make the characteristics of specific regions and cities, and are valued as a communication interface to restore the relationships between people and cities. The street furniture design with inherent publicness is an essential element for leisurely life and refined image of modern people who have experienced severance and mental poverty in uniform, vertical modern city space with the development of advanced science and technology. The purpose of this study is to analyze the new design approaches to street furniture which plays an important role in the determination of the images of modern city environment and to examine the characteristics and trends of such designs. First, in accordance with the flow of studies from publicness and public space to street furniture, the concept and meaning of publicness which is the basic element of public space were identified through theoretical examination, and the characteristics and roles of modern public space were analyzed through literature review, data review, and international cases. Based on the results of this theoretical analysis, the concept and meaning elements, function elements, and design elements of the street furniture which was planned in accordance with the goal and functions of public space were identified. For the meaning elements of street furniture design, fun, health, culture, sustainability, and vitalization were identified. For the function elements of street furniture design, convenience, safety, and delivery were identified. As the characteristics of modern street furniture design, convergent, green, digilog, functional, and universal designs were analyzed. This study is meaningful in that it recognized the roles of street furniture in modern public space as a concrete, practical environmental design element and estimated the development directions of street furniture design in public space.
This study suggests a fashion design using aesthetic characteristics of works by Kate MccGwire, a modern sculptor paying attention to soft sculpture materials such as feathers. In this research on MccGwire works, their internal meanings may be derived as the dualism of familiarity, movement and consciousness. Works also have aesthetic characteristics of overlapping, fluidity and twist. Using such characteristics, 4 one piece dresses and 2 vest dresses were made. Research findings are as follows. First, aesthetic characteristics of MccGwire works could be expanded into expressive areas of silhouettes and details in fashion. Second, visual flow and concentration could be expressed by gradual coloration of feather colors. Third, dart manipulation could be applied naturally by details and curve silhouettes of fashion design. Fourth, touch of feather material could be expressed fully by leaving the edge of garments raw. Fifth, spatiality of fashion could be implemented partially by applying decorative saddle stitching to costume design details. This study explored a potential of soft sculpture occurred during a transitional process of objet pursued by 20th century's avant-garde artists applicable to fashion design ideas that suggested methods for contemporary creative design.
