In order to evaluate applicability of cylindrical slit type block breakwater to the field water, which was designed from the previous physical model study, it is analyzed the calmness of harbor area by the numerical model experiment. For a small fishery port in southern coast of Korea a SWAN model using the wave action balance equation was formulated. The reflection and transmission coefficients induced by the physical model test were introduced to the numerical model. The model response with cylindrical slit type breakwater was compared with the impermeable breakwater case and the possibility of water quality improvement through the water circulation by the new structure was investigated. For numerical simulation, parameters of deepwater design wave from the prediction report II for overall deepwater design wave by KORDI were used and wind parameters from the 50years return period observed for 37years(1970~2006) were adopted in the numerical model. The response of west breakwater in Mijo port applying the NE and NNE waves, which were dominant in this area, was analyzed. It was found that the transmission characteristic of designed cylindrical slit breakwater was well presented in the numerical model.
In Korea, the number of elderly has been increasing rapidly. So it is also expected that the economic activity and the trip frequency of the elderly will increase. On the other hand, elderly related accidents such as falls during walking are steadily increasing and the satisfaction about pedestrian environment of elderly is very low. In this paper, we found one of the reasons for these dissatisfaction in pedestrian facility, which is not considering the walking ability (about 75% of non-elderly person) of the elderly. So, we analyze the kinematic walking characteristics of the elderly with the motion analysis system, when the elderly use stairs. As a result of analysis of various walking variables, the current standard for stairway height in Korean law (18cm) requires excessive force to elderly so it was difficult for elderly to keep the balance of the body in ascending and descending walk of stairs. In this paper, we propose the stair design criteria through the cluster analysis of walking parameters reflecting the gait characteristics of the elderly. This change is not a big for non-elderly person, but it can promote more socioeconomic activities for the elderly.

Prior to proposing appropriate standard for subway station platform, this study conducted field measurements to examine characteristics of room acoustics on platform of two subway stations. As a result of analyzing the longitudinal length of the platform, Sound Pressure Level (SPL) decreased (maximum difference : 14 dB), Reverberation Time (RT) tended to increase (maximum difference of 0.8 s ~ 1.5 s), and C50 and D50 were decreased (maximum difference: 5.9 dB ~ 9.1 dB and 31.8 % ~ 37.6 %, respectively) as measurement positions moved away from the sound source. The Interaural Cross-correlation Coefficient (IACC) did not show clear tendency, but it was lower than 0.3 in entire points. It is judged that the subway platform has non-uniform sound field characteristics due to various combinations of direct and reflective sound even though it is finished with a strong reflective material.This indicates that the room acoustic characteristics of the near and far sound field are clearly expressed depending on the source-receiver distances in the subway platform having a long flat shape with a low height compared to the length.Therefore, detailed architectural and electric acoustic design based on the characteristics of each location of speaker and sound receiver in the platform is required for an acoustic design with clear sound information at all positions of the platform.

In this paper, we introduce a design methodology of data-centroid Radial Basis Function neural networks with extended polynomial function. The two underlying design mechanisms of such networks involve K-means clustering method and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO). The proposed algorithm is based on K-means clustering method for efficient processing of data and the optimization of model was carried out using PSO. In this paper, as the connection weight of RBF neural networks, we are able to use four types of polynomials such as simplified, linear, quadratic, and modified quadratic. Using K-means clustering, the center values of Gaussian function as activation function are selected. And the PSO-based RBF neural networks results in a structurally optimized structure and comes with a higher level of flexibility than the one encountered in the conventional RBF neural networks. The PSO-based design procedure being applied at each node of RBF neural networks leads to the selection of preferred parameters with specific local characteristics (such as the number of input variables, a specific set of input variables, and the distribution constant value in activation function) available within the RBF neural networks. To evaluate the performance of the proposed data-centroid RBF neural network with extended polynomial function, the model is experimented with using the nonlinear process data(2-Dimensional synthetic data and Mackey-Glass time series process data) and the Machine Learning dataset(NOx emission process data in gas turbine plant, Automobile Miles per Gallon(MPG) data, and Boston housing data). For the characteristic analysis of the given entire dataset with non-linearity as well as the efficient construction and evaluation of the dynamic network model, the partition of the given entire dataset distinguishes between two cases of Division I(training dataset and testing dataset) and Division II(training dataset, validation dataset, and testing dataset). A comparative analysis shows that the proposed RBF neural networks produces model with higher accuracy as well as more superb predictive capability than other intelligent models presented previously.

It is experienced fact as a regular annual event that the structure to he designed on unreasonable flood for the agricultural structures including reservoirs have been brought not only loss of lives, but also enormous property damage. For the solution of this problem at issue, this study was conducted to develop an optimal runoff hydrograph model by comparison of the peak flows and time to peak between observed and simulated flows derived by linear time-invariant and linear time-variant models under the condition of having a short duration of heavy rainfall with uniform rainfall intensity at nine small watersheds which are within the range of 55.9 to 140.7 square kilometers in area in Han, Geum, Nagdong and Yeongsan Rivers. The results obtained through this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Storage constants and Gamma function arguments were calculated within the range of 1.2 to 6.42 and of 1.28 to 8.05 respectively by the moment method as the parameters for the analysis of runoff hydrograph based on linear time-invariant model. 2. Parameters for both linear time-invariant and linear time-variant models were calibrated with nine gaged watershed data, using a trial and error method. The resulting parameters including Gamma function argument, N and storage constant, K for linear time-invariant model were related statistically to watershed characteristic variables such as area, slope, length of main stream and the centroid length of the basin. 3. Average relative errors of the simulated peak discharge of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using linear time-variant and linear time-invariant models were shown to be 0.75 and 5.42 percent respectively to the peak of observed runoff hydrographs. Correlation coefficients for the statistical analysis in the same condition were shown to be 0.999 and 0.978 with a high significance respectively. Therefore, it can be concluded that the accuracy of a linear time-variant model is approaching more closely to the observed runoff hydrograph than that of a linear time-invariant model in the applied watersheds. 4. Average relative errors of the time to peak of calibrated runoff hydrographs by using linear time-variant and linear time-invariant models were shown to be 16.44 and 19.89 percent respectively to the time to peak of observed runoff hydrographs. Correlation coefficients in the same condition were also shown to be 0.999 and 0.886 with a high significance respectively. 5. It can be seen that the shape of simulated hydrograph based on a linear time- variant model is getting closer to the observed runoff hydrograph than that of a linear time-invariant model in the applied watersheds. 6. Two different models were verified with different rainfall-runoff events from data for the calibration by relative error and correlation analysis. Consequently, it can be generally concluded that verification results for the peak discharge and time to peak of simulated runoff hydrographs were in good agreement with those of calibrated runoff hydrographs.

This research is to the selection of optimal probability distribution as well as the estimation for design hourly factor in consideration of traffic characteristic, such as road function, lane number and AADT. To accomplish the objectives, we are applied to various probability distribution using traffic data that observed at permanent traffic count points in 2005. The parameters or the selected 14 probability distribution were estimated based on the method of maximum likelihood and the validity condition of the estimated parameter The goodness-of-fit test, such as chi-square test. was performed as well as the estimation of design hourly factor. As a result, An appropriate distributions of each case were selected : Pearson V for two lane of rural roads, LogLogistic for the four lane of rural roads, LogLogistic for the urban roads, Extreme value for recreation roads. And optimal K factor are as following : $0.1{\sim}0.2 $ for two lane of rural roads, $0.09{\sim}0.14$ for the four lane of rural roads. $0.07{\sim}0.13$ for the urban roads, $0.1{\sim}0.2$ for recreation roads.
A characteristic study of chlorine dioxide generation by the electrolysis system was performed after chlorite ($ClO_2^-$) is adsorbed from sodium chlorite by a polymer ion exchange resin. A strongly basic anion exchange resin was used and a Ti plate coated with Ru and Ir was used as an electrode. Various parameters such as reaction stirring velocity, reaction temperature, chlorine dioxide product concentration, ion exchange resin content and product maker type for the adsorption quantity in the chlorite adsorption of ion exchange resin were investigated and found the ion exchange resin with the maximum adsorption quantity. A generation trend of chlorine dioxide was observed by the electrolysis system and optimum conditions on the desired value were found using response surface design of DOE (Design of Experiments). The strongly basic anion exchange resin with the maximum adsorption quantity was SAR-20 (TRILITE Gel type II) and the adsorption quantity was around 110 mg/IER (g). Observed generation optimum conditions of chlorine dioxide were constant-current (electrode area base; $A/dm^2$) and flow rate of $N_2$ gas (4.7 L/min) at the desired value of sterilization (900~1000 ppm, 1 h).

The pressure regulator which is used for controlling the reducing pressure in the piezoelectrically driven pneumatic valve has been studied. The pneumatic valve of this study object is 2-stage type and consists of a piezoelectric actuator, a controller, a poppet valve and a pressure regulator. Nominal flow of 50 lpm, maximum operating pressure of 0.9MPa and frequency characteristic of 10Hz and over are required in this pneumatic valve, but the pressure regulator is needed because piezoelectric actuator has no ability to control the pressure of 0.9MPa directly. In this study, bimorph type PZT actuator of $25.2mm(L){\times}7.2mm(W){\times}0.5mm(H)$ with constant of $-220{\times}10-12$ CN-1 was proposed and investigated. Maximum operating force of 0.052 N and maximum displacement of $63{\mu}m$ were gotten from the fabricated PZT actuator. From the analysis results, the orifice diameter of 0.6mm for a piezoelectric actuator was derived and then the pressure regulator which can be operated under 0.15 MPa easily was designed and manufactured. Performance and effects of design parameters were simulated by the Simulink of Matlab software, and it was confirmed that the performance characteristics of manufactured pressure regulator are superior in the common use pressure range of 0.5 MPa to 0.7 MPa. The results show that the proposed pressure regulator is suitable for the pneumatic valve with a PZT actuator.
In this paper, we have performed a study that modifies the CPW Pad configurations to improve an $f_{max}$ characteristic of metamorphic HEMT. To analyze the CPW Pad structures of MHEMT, we use the ADS momentum simulator developed by $Agilent^{TM}$. Comparing the employed structure (G/W = 40/100 m), the optimized structure (G/W = 20/25 m) of CPW MHEMT shows the increased $S_{21}$ by 2.5 dB, which is one of the dominant parameters influencing the $f_{max}$ of MHEMT. To compare the performances of optimized MHEMT with the employed MHEMT, DC and RF characteristics of the fabricated MHEMT were measured. In the case of optimized CPW MHEMT, the measured saturated drain current density and transconductance $(g_m)$ were 693 mA/mm and 647 mS/mm, respectively. RF measurements were performed in a frequency range of $0.1{\sim}110$ GHz. A high $S_{21}$ gain of 5.5 dB is shown at a millimeter-wave frequency of 110 GHz. Two kinds of RF gains, $h_{21}$ and maximum available gain (MAG), versus the frequency, and a cut-off frequency ($f_t$) of ${\sim}154$ GHz and a maximum frequency of oscillation ($f_{max}$) of ${\sim}358$ GHz are obtained, respectively, from the extrapolation of the RF gains for a device biased at a peak transconductance. An optimized CPW MHEMT structure is one of the first reports among fabricated 0.1 m gate length MHEMTs.

Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a material with a wide bandgap (3.26eV), a high critical electric field (~2.3MV/cm), a and a high bulk electron mobility ($\sim900cm^2/Vs$). These electronic properties allow high breakdown voltage, high-speed switching capability, and high temperature operation compared to Si devices. Although various SiC DMOSFET structures have been reported so far for optimizing performances, the effect of channel dimension on the switching performance of SiC DMOSFETs has not been extensively examined. This paper studies different channel dimensons ($L_{CH}$ : $0.5{\mu}m$, $1\;{\mu}m$, $1.5\;{\mu}m$) and their effect on the the device transient characteristics. The key design parameters for SiC DMOSFETs have been optimized and a physics-based two-dimensional (2-D) mixed device and circuit simulator by Silvaco Inc. has been used to understand the relationship. with the switching characteristics. To investigate transient characteristic of the device, mixed-mode simulation has been performed, where the solution of the basic transport equations for the 2-D device structures is directly embedded into the solution procedure for the circuit equations. We observe an increase in the turn-on and turn-off time with increasing the channel length. The switching time in 4H-SiC DMOSFETs have been found to be seriously affected by the various intrinsic parasitic components, such as gate-source capacitance and channel resistance. The intrinsic parasitic components relate to the delay time required for the carrier transit from source to drain. Therefore, improvement of switching speed in 4H-SiC DMOSFETs is essential to reduce the gate-source capacitance and channel resistance.
