Few-Shot Image Synthesis using Noise-Based Deep Conditional Generative Adversarial Nets

  • In recent years research on automatic font generation with machine learning mainly focus on using transformation-based methods, in comparison, generative model-based methods of font generation have received less attention. Transformation-based methods learn a mapping of the transformations from an existing input to a target. This makes them ambiguous because in some cases a single input reference may correspond to multiple possible outputs. In this work, we focus on font generation using the generative model-based methods which learn the buildup of the characters from noise-to-image. We propose a novel way to train a conditional generative deep neural model so that we can achieve font style control on the generated font images. Our research demonstrates how to generate new font images conditioned on both character class labels and character style labels when using the generative model-based methods. We achieve this by introducing a modified generator network which is given inputs noise, character class, and style, which help us to calculate losses separately for the character class labels and character style labels. We show that adding the character style vector on top of the character class vector separately gives the model rich information about the font and enables us to explicitly specify not only the character class but also the character style that we want the model to generate.

Multi-Style License Plate Recognition System using K-Nearest Neighbors

  • There are various styles of license plates for different countries and use cases that require style-specific methods. In this paper, we propose and illustrate a multi-style license plate recognition system. The proposed system performs a series of processes for license plate candidates detection, structure classification, character segmentation and character recognition, respectively. Specifically, we introduce a license plate structure classification process to identify its style that precedes character segmentation and recognition processes. We use a K-Nearest Neighbors algorithm with pre-training steps to recognize numbers and characters on multi-style license plates. To show feasibility of our multi-style license plate recognition system, we evaluate our system for multi-style license plates covering single line, double line, different backgrounds and character colors on Korean and the U.S. license plates. For the evaluation of Korean license plate recognition, we used a 50 minutes long input video that contains 138 vehicles of 6 different license plate styles, where each frame of the video is processed through a series of license plate recognition processes. From two experiments results, we show that various LP styles can be recognized under 50 ms processing time and with over 99% accuracy, and can be extended through additional learning and training steps.

일본 애니메이션에 나타난 미소녀 캐릭터 패션 연구 (A Study of the Beautiful Girls' Fashion Styles in the Japan Animations)

  • The purpose of this study was to clarify the symbolic meanings of the beautiful girls' character fashion in modern Japanese animations. This study investigated the currency and characteristics of the beautiful girls' characters from the 80's to the present. The fashion style of a beautiful girl's character was categorized into four styles: trendy style, adult style, Lolita style and fantasy style. These fashion styles were analyzed, and as a result, three symbolic meanings of the fashion style of a beautiful girl's character are discussed. Firstly, these occidentalized body styles represented idealized body images that are not traditionally Japanese. Secondly, the adult style (growth) represented coming out, i.e. the desires to develop from a child into an adult. Thirdly, the adult (transformation), Lolita and fantastic styles appealed to maniac consumers, having a "Moe" feeling.

  • 우리의 전통문화 유산에서 새롭게 디자인 모티브를 발굴하고 시각적으로 상징화하는 연구는 과거의 것과 현대의 것을 융합시키므로써 형태와 미학의 조화 속에 새로운 한국적 디자인을 창조하는 일이며, 미래의 가치를 찾는 작업이고, 새로운 전통 문화를 만드는 일이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 우리 전통상징문양과 12지신 캐릭터에서 디자인 모티브를 발굴하고, 전통과 현대의 이미지를 접목하여 참신하고 세련된 감각과 흥미를 유발할 수 있는 캐릭터에 대한 표현연구를 통해 독특한 한국적 캐릭터를 개발하여 이를 현대 디자인에 다양하고 실질적인 활용방안을 제시하고자 했다. 이는 전통상징문양의 시각적인 효과와 캐릭터 개발만이 아닌, 우리만의 고유한 문화요소로 정체성과 독창성을 표현하여 외래문화 속에서 우리의 한국적 아이덴티티(Identity)를 찾고 한국적 디자인으로 미래의 세계시장에서 새로운 국가경쟁력을 갖기 위함이 그 목적이다.

게임캐릭터의 패션스타일 유형 및 특성 (Fashion Styles and Characteristics of Game Characters)

  • 이 연구는 게임 캐릭터의 패션스타일을 분석하여 게임에 적합한 유형화를 제안하고, 유형별 특성을 정의하고자 한다. 수집된 자료를 유사한 스타일로 그룹핑하여 대표성을 띤 용어로 게임 캐릭터스타일을 새롭게 명명하였으며, 명명된 스타일은 캐릭터의 의상, 헤어스타일, 액세서리를 중심으로 Creative Style, Attractive Style, Grotesque Style, Usual Style, Suit Style 등 5가지로 분류하여 분석하였다. Creative Style은 창의적인 디자인으로 일부를 제거 및 첨가한 독창적인 스타일, Attractive Style은 노출이 많은 디자인, 신체에 피트한 디자인으로 성적인 매력을 표현하는 스타일, Grotesque Style은 엽기적이고 괴기스러우며, 음침한 분위기를 나타내는 스타일, Usual Style은 평범하고 현실적인 스타일, 마지막으로 Suit Style은 전신을 둘러싼 갑옷 스타일이다. 이 연구를 통해 캐릭터 패션스타일에 대해 게이머와 개발자간의 견해 차이를 좁혀 게임디자인의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있다.

  • In this research, I compared and analyzed the 'factors of style' that expresses and visualizes the 'characteristics of characters' and the characters from three movies each that was filmed with Kang Ho Song and Keong Ku Seol who acted in many movies both. As the result, for the factors for actors' makeup design, since they have limited choices of textures, colors, and the range of changes, changing the tone of skin to light to dark implied the images of characteristics. Somewhat dark skin tone that was like tanned skin expressed the life style of the character who works for an active profession not for an intellectual position. For the factors of hair style, medium sized wavy hair that goes straight down forehead expressed the character's familiar and informal personality while short cut sized all back style hair expressed confidence, sociality, and logical personality of the character. The actors' costume was important to express the characteristics of characters such as changes of their mind, especially the costumes delivered symbolic meanings of the role of their social class, profession, and their financial state. In addition, there were common factors to create and design a character in terms of the changes of the actors' body shape; when the actor acted the character who has conflicts inside and sarcastic personality, they lost weight on purpose while they gained weight and made a barrel shaped body to act the character who is positive in every occasion and does not realize the real world or who is greed.

제한된 모션 센서와 애니메이션 데이터를 이용한 캐릭터 동작 제어 (Character Motion Control by Using Limited Sensors and Animation Data)

  • 디지털 스토리텔링에 등장하는 3차원 가상 캐릭터에는 외형뿐만 아니라 자세나 동작에서도 캐릭터의 개성이 반영된 고유의 스타일이 부여된다. 그러나 사용자가 웨어러블 동작센서를 사용하여 직접 캐릭터의 신체 동작을 제어하는 경우 캐릭터 고유의 스타일이 무시될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 가상 캐릭터를 위해 제작된 소량의 애니메이션 데이터만을 이용하는 검색 기반 캐릭터 동작 제어 기술을 사용하여 캐릭터 고유의 스타일을 유지하는 기술을 제시한다. 대량의 학습 데이터를 필요로하는 기계학습법을 피하는 대신 소량의 애니메이션 데이터로부터 사용자의 자세와 유사한 캐릭터 자세를 직접 검색하여 사용하는 기술을 제안한다. 제시된 방법을 검증하기 위해 전문가에 의해 제작된 가상현실 게임용 캐릭터 모델과 애니메이션 데이터를 사용하여 실험하였다. 평범한 사람의 모션캡쳐 데이터를 사용했을 때와의 결과를 비교하여 캐릭터 스타일이 보존됨을 증명하였다. 또한 동작센서의 개수를 달리한 실험을 통해 제시된 방법의 확장성을 증명하였다.

캐릭터 커스터마이징 게임에 나타난 유형별 스타일링 분석 (Analyzing Types of Styling through Character Customization Games)

  • 선행된 연구에서 제안된 '게임캐릭터 패션스타일 유형'을 토대로 커스터마이징 시스템에 나타난 게임 캐릭터의 유형별 스타일링을 Creative Style, Attractive Style, Grotesque Style, Usual Style, Suit Style로 분류하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 게임의 특성상 가상공간에서 이루어진다는 점에서 현실에서는 구현하기 힘든 창의이며 융합적인 디자인 표현이 다양한 형태로 나타났다. 둘째, 게이머와 동일시되는 게임 캐릭터의 특징과 일반적인 신체비율보다 과장된 8등신 이상이 주로 사용되는 RPG들을 중심으로 분석된 만큼 Creative Style과 Attractive Style의 빈도가 높게 조사되었다. 셋째, 대체적으로 캐릭터의 의상디자인과 컬러의 사용은 게이머의 요구나 세계관의 반영에 의해 선택되므로 공통적인 특징이 나타나는 반면, 헤어디자인과 컬러에서는 다양한 표현으로 대표성을 찾기 힘들었다. 본 연구결과는 게이머의 개성과 요구에 부합하는 패션아이템 개발 매뉴얼 및 관련연구를 위한 참고자료로써 가치가 있다고 사료된다.

한국 패션브랜드의 경쟁력 제고를 위한 한.중 여성 스트리트 패션 스타일 비교분석 - 2009 S/S 서울, 상하이, 베이징을 중심으로 - (A Comparative Analysis of Styles of Street Fashion Between Korean and Chinese Women for Improving the Global Competitiveness of Korean Fashion Brands - Focus on 2009 S/S Seoul, Shanghai and Beijing -)

  • This study presents the basic resources for the enhancement of the competitiveness of the Korean fashion brands in the Chinese fashion market. They are composed of the differences and common points of clothing styles in Seoul, Beijing, and Shanghai, by analyzing the style comparatively. The research was performed by taking pictures of the Summer 2009 street fashions, from July $1^{st}$ to July $15^{th}$ 1999 (10 am to 5 pm). Among the data about the three cities, 200 photos were selected of women in their twenties and thirties, respectively. The disparity of regional preferences were noted in the fields of easy casual, romantic casual, sports casual, character casual, classic style, and feminine style. There were no specific differences in style among the three cities in the easy casual and classic style. The romantic casual after the easy casual were more prevalent in Seoul, as compared to the two cities in China. The neat style was more prevalent in Seoul. In Beijing the feminine style after the easy casual were preferred. The conservative style was more preferred in Seoul, while the body exposed style was preferred in Beijing and Shanghai. In Shanghai, the character casual was preferred and shows the similarity to the fashion style of Seoul, rather than Beijing. The high exposure of the body in romantic casual and feminine styles was more remarkable in Beijing and Shanghai. The frequency of the character casual that emphasized individuality with a unique style was relatively high in Shanghai. Seoul, Shanghai, and Beijing showed a similarity in the acceptance of fashion trends and preferences in clothing style. However, the fashion coordination in Shanghai and Beijing was different from Seoul.

  • Today, games, movies and amusements are the occupation of museums. This study will investigate the current trend of the theme park-style museum, the alternative space of the 21th centuty. Theme parks have moved beyond the concept of park, and they have application in commercial space, medical space, educational space and other areas, even exhibition space in an advanced country. This study researches into the characteristics of the theme park and museum, and how the style of the theme park-style museum is created. Its aim is to analyze the character of theme Park-style museum through case study with a focus on style. The theme park-style museum is an exhibition space with an emphasis on the characteristics of a theme park. The style of a theme park-style museum can be divided into ride-type, food-type, character-type and landscape-type attractions. Attractions are an important element of theme park-style museum. We recognize the new paradigm of museum in the theme park-style museum, but need to propose a method that will apply attraction elements to an exhibition space. The theme park-style museum will continually evolve with new attractions, and it is recommended that museums plan today for these changes.
