The carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) is very important, because the severity of it is an independent predictor of transient cerebral ischemia, stroke, and coronary events such as myocardial infarction. The conventional image processing to measure the IMT has not been satisfactory, because the methods have relied on the manual section drawing and a regional segmentation by differential estimation. We propose a new image processing technology effective to extract features from the carotid artery image whose pixels have the directional vector properties with composed color distribution. The technique we presented here is not by differential variation but by verification of the layer properties of carotid artery image. Iterated vertical and horizontal analysis and segmentation of the IMT image show the vector characteristics. This new technique makes it possible to cluster the layers statistically, and to classify mathematical correlation between regions and resulting in correct measurements of thickness and its variation. The advantages and effectiveness of this approach are applicable to region process and character extraction of such a vector image.

Recently, the color of vehicle license plate has been changed from green to white. Thus the vehicle plate recognition system used for parking management systems, speed and signal violation detection systems should be robust to the both colors. This paper presents a vehicle license plate recognition system, which works on both of green and white plate at the same time. In the proposed system, the image of license plate is taken from a captured vehicle image by using morphological information. In the next, each character region in the license plate image is extracted based on the vertical and horizontal projection of plate image and the relative position of individual characters. Finally, for the recognition process of extracted characters, PCA(Principal Component Analysis) and LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis) are sequentially utilized. In the experiment, vehicle license plates of both green background and white background captured under irregular illumination conditions have been tested, and the relatively high extraction and recognition rates are observed.
Recently, the study of efficient way to store and retrieve enormous music data is becoming the one of important issues in the multimedia database. Most general method of MIR (Music Information Retrieval) includes a text-based approach using text information to search a desired music. However, if users did not remember the keyword about the music, it can not give them correct answers. Moreover, since these types of systems are implemented only for exact matching between the query and music data, it can not mine any information on similar music data. Thus, these systems are inappropriate to achieve similarity matching of music data. In order to solve the problem, we propose an Efficient Query-By-Humming System (EQBHS) with a content-based indexing method that efficiently retrieve and store music when a user inquires with his incorrect humming. For the purpose of accelerating query processing in EQBHS, we design indices for significant melodies, which are 1) frequent melodies occurring many times in a single music, on the assumption that users are to hum what they can easily remember and 2) melodies partitioned by rests. In addition, we propose an error tolerated mapping method from a note to a character to make searching efficient, and the frequent melody extraction algorithm. We verified the assumption for frequent melodies by making up questions and compared the performance of the proposed EQBHS with N-gram by executing various experiments with a number of music data.
Conventional research on image restoration has focused on restoring degraded images resulting from image formation, storage and communication, mainly in the signal processing field. Related research on recovering original image information of caption regions includes a method using BMA(block matching algorithm). The method has problem with frequent incorrect matching and propagating the errors by incorrect matching. Moreover, it is impossible to recover the frames between two scene changes when scene changes occur more than twice. In this paper, we propose a method for recovering original images using EBMA(Extended Block Matching Algorithm) and a region compensation method. To use it in original image recovery, the method extracts a priori knowledge such as information about scene changes, camera motion and caption regions. The method decides the direction of recovery using the extracted caption information(the start and end frames of a caption) and scene change information. According to the direction of recovery, the recovery is performed in units of character components using EBMA and the region compensation method. Experimental results show that EBMA results in good recovery regardless of the speed of moving object and complexity of background in video. The region compensation method recovered original images successfully, when there is no information about the original image to refer to.
Recently, 3D displays are supplied in the 3D markets so that the demand for 3D stereoscopic contents increases. In general, a simple method is to use a stereoscopic camera. As well, the production of 3D from 2D materials is regarded as an important technology. Such conversion works have gained much interest in the field of 3D converting. However, the stereoscopic image generation from a single 2D image is limited to simple 2D to 3D conversion so that the better realistic perception is difficult to deliver to the users. This paper presents a new stereoscopic content production method where foreground objects undergo alive action events. Further stereoscopic animation is viewed on 3D displays. Given a 2D image, the production is composed of background image generation, foreground object extraction, object/background depth maps and stereoscopic image generation The alive objects are made using the geometric transformation (e.g., translation, rotation, scaling, etc). The proposed method is performed on a Korean traditional painting, Danopungjung as well as Pixar's Up. The animated video showed that through the utilization of simple object transformations, more realistic perception can be delivered to the viewers.
Timelapse which was appeared Georges Mellieoseu in 1897 was not familiar to people and was not popular in film or broadcast industry in spite of long history. But about 5 years ago, timelapse has become distinguished in all around image art, because it show us aesthetic extraction of time and variation of color in Vimeo and Youtube which neve been seen before. So nowadays latest camera has come out with default menu which can shoot timelapse. But popularity of timelapse seem not development of cinematography technique or appearance of new function but production of image which reflects ages of present with fully accept digital media property. This study is approached from two formative characteristics. First it is strengthen of time which is showed timelapse and analog media from a comparison angle. Second, it is how to extend their sense and imitate images through resolution which can be possible high quality image and color especially with Raw data Through these methodology, this study defines correlation of character of digital media and artistic value of images in timelapse. And also it cleary assures the era of penetrating art has not only visual amusement as known but, also representative value of our ages and technology of media.

The analysis of thiodiglycolic acid in urine has been used as an index of biological exposure to vinyl chloride. Unfortunately thiodiglycolic acid has a strong hydrophilic character, because it has two carboxylic groups, so that it can only be extracted with organic solvent with a great difficulty. Underivatized thiodiglycolic acid tends to tail because of non-specific interaction with the inert support. Therefore, esterification is the obvious first choice for derivatization of thiodiglycolic acid, particularly for gas chromatography. In this study, the focus of interest is to compare two method of esterifications (methylation and silylation). Methylation is to make the methyl ester of thiodiglycolic acid by reaction with diazomethane. Silylation is to make the trimethylsilyl ester of thiodiglycolic acid by reaction with N-trimethylsily-ldiethylamine. The results and conclusions are as the following: 1. The detection limit (sensitivity) of methylated thiodiglycolic acid was $5.00{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ and silylated thiodiglycolic acid was $3.07{\mu}g/m{\ell}$ by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector. 2. The optimal liquid-liquid extraction of thiodiglycolic acid was as following: To each of the tubes, $15m{\ell}$ of urine, concentrated sulfuric acid (pH 1 - 2) and 5 gsodium sulfate were added. The samples was extracted three times with $5m{\ell}$ ethylacetate each time. 3. The methylated thiodiglycolic acid was more stable than silylated thiodiglycolic acid in extractional solvent which contained humidity. 4. The precision (pooled coefficient of variation for 4 days) of the analysis was 0.07324 in methylated thiodiglycolic acid with external standard calibration, and 0.07033 in methylated thiodiglycolic acid with internal standard calibration. 5. The precision (pooled coefficient of variation for 4 days) of the analysis was 0.10914 in silylated thiodiglycolic acid with external standard calibration, and 0.13602 in silylated thiodiglycolic acid with internal standard calibration. From the above results, the analysis of methylated thiodiglycolic acid was more sensitive (limit of detection) than silylated thiodiglycolic acid by gas chromatography. However, the methylated thiodiglycolic acid was stable in the humidity and was separated sharply on chromatogram. Also, analysis of methylated thiodiglycolic acid was more precise (pooled coefficient of variation for 4 days) than silylated thiodiglycolic acid. In conclusion, it is established that the analysis of methylated thiodiglycolic acid is appropriate for biological monitoring of exposure to vinyl chloride.
In this paper, we propose a multi license plate recognition system using high resolution $360^{\circ}$ omnidirectional IP camera. The proposed system consists of a planar division part of $360^{\circ}$ circular image and a multi license plate recognition part. The planar division part of the $360^{\circ}$ circular image are divided into a planar image with enhanced image quality through processes such as circular image acquisition, circular image segmentation, conversion to plane image, pixel correction using color interpolation, color correction and edge correction in a high resolution $360^{\circ}$ omnidirectional IP Camera. Multi license plate recognition part is through the multi-plate extraction candidate region, a multi-plate candidate area normalized and restore, multiple license plate number, character recognition using a neural network in the process of recognizing a multi-planar imaging plates. In order to evaluate the multi license plate recognition system using the proposed high resolution $360^{\circ}$ omnidirectional IP camera, we experimented with a specialist in the operation of intelligent parking control system, and 97.8% of high plate recognition rate was confirmed.
The present investigation was performed to purify bombesin-like immunoreactivity (BBS-LI) from the skin of frogs, B. orientalis inhabiting Korea. For extraction of BBS-LI, the fresh skin of 360 g from frogs was immersed in 1,800 ml of 100% methanol and then kept at $4^{\circ}C$ for 5 days. BBS-LI was partially purified by liquid chromatography using an alkaline alumina column followed by a Sephadex G-10 column. BBS-LI was further purified by using sequential HPLC of reversed phase C18 preparation, gel permeation, SP-ion exchange and reversed phase C18 analysis. BBS-LI in fractions of each step was monitored by radioimmunoassay for which bombesin antiserum with a titer of 1 : 188,800 was raised in a guinea pig. Eventually, two different BBS-LI were successfully purified and each BBS-LI showed the following character. 1) BBS-LI was well separated into two peaks in SP-ion exchange HPLC. One (BBS-LI-K1) bound to the column while the other (BBS-LI-K2) did not. 2) BBS-LI-K1, 73.8% of total BBS-LI, was not differentiated from synthetic bombesin in reversed phase C18 analytical and gel permeation HPLC. 3) BBS-LI-K2, 26.2% of total BBS-LI, eluted later than synthetic bombesin in reversed phase C18 analytical HPLC, but it eluted with a retention time identical to that of synthetic bombesin in gel permeation HPLC. 4) The two forms of BBS-LI and synthetic bombesin identically stimulated gastrin release and pancreatic exocrine secretion including volume, protein output and amylase output in anesthetized rats. It is concluded from the above results that the skin of B. orientalis contains two different forms of BBS-LI which are very identical to bombesin immunologically and biologically. In comparison with synthetic bombesin containing 14 amino acid residues, the major form shows quite similar pattern in all HPLC used in the present study, but the minor form exhibits quite different pattern in SP-ion exchange and reversed phase C18 analytical HPLG.
The optical character recognition (OCR) is a technique to extract and recognize texts from images. It is an important preprocessing step in data analysis since most actual text information is embedded in images. Many OCR engines have high recognition accuracy for images where texts are clearly separable from background, such as white background and black lettering. However, they have low recognition accuracy for images where texts are not easily separable from complex background. To improve this low accuracy problem with complex images, it is necessary to transform the input image to make texts more noticeable. In this paper, we propose a method to segment an input image into text lines to enable OCR engines to recognize each line more efficiently, and to determine the final output by comparing the recognition rates of CLAHE module and Two-step module which distinguish texts from background regions based on image processing techniques. Through thorough experiments comparing with well-known OCR engines, Tesseract and Abbyy, we show that our proposed method have the best recognition accuracy with complex background images.
