Factors Influencing Educational Needs Assessment for Character Education (대학생들의 인성교육 요구 영향요인)

  • Since the discussion on solving some problems in modern socity began in the late 1990s, the interest in students' character education has increased. This study aims to identify the factors influencing educational needs assessment for character education in Korea. A self-administered survey was obtained from 318 students in a university. Three factors extracted from factor analysis were individual, interpersonal, social character factor. Results showed that the determinants influencing character educations are academic achievement and volunteer activities for individuals character, academic achievement and school activities in campus for interpersonal and social character educational factor. The findings should be of interest to practitioners to develop education programs for students.

  • This paper describes about the printed character segmentation and recognition system for slabs in steel manufacturing process. To increase the recognition rate, it is important to improve success rate of character segmentation. Since Slabs front area surface are not uniform and surface temperature is very high, marked characters not only undergo damages but also have much noise. On the other hand, since almost marked characters are very thick and the space between characters is only about 10 $^{\sim}$ 15 mm, there are many touching characters. Therefore appropriate character image preprocessing and segmentation algorithm is needed. In this paper we propose a multi-local thresholding method for damaged character restoration, a modified touching character segmentation, algorithm for marked characters. Finally a effective Multi-Class SVM is used to recognize segmented characters.

  • The Animation Character is high value-added industry in an aspect of economic value. Because Animation Character creates various synergic effects. First and most importantly, the value of animation character is role of communicator in mass culture. The diverse personality and behavior of Animation character affects masses's a way of thinking and act. But the personality and behavior of Animation character express an extreme inclination, for the most part. A study of MeSH Compatibility between Korea and Chinese (한국과 중국의 MeSH 호환성 연구)

  • The findings from this study are summarized as follows: 1. Hangul 2004 has 16,023 Chinese Character codes. Among them, 15,231 Chinese Character codes are searched by DB, the others are unsearchable codes. 2. Among 15,231 Chinese Character codes of Hangul 2004, 2,471 Chinese Character codes are converted into 2,232 Simplified Chinese Character codes by Traditional and Simplified Chinese Character Converting program in Hangul 2004. 3. The 5th edition TCM-MeSH has 6,385 thesauruses and 2,142 kinds of Chinese Characters. 4. If we use Simplified Chinese Character of Hangul 2004 to search for TCM-MeSH, we will find 94.3% of TCM-MeSH. But If we use Traditional Chinese Character of Hangul 2004 to search for TCM-MeSH, we will find only 34.2% of TCM-MeSH.

Character Recognition using Regional Structure

  • With the advent of the fourth industry, the need for office automation with automatic character recognition capabilities is increasing day by day. Therefore, in this paper, we study a character recognition algorithm that effectively recognizes a new experimental data character by using learning data characters. The proposed algorithm computes the degree of similarity that the structural regions of learning data characters match the corresponding regions of the experimental data character. It has been confirmed that satisfactory results can be obtained by selecting the learning data character with the highest degree of similarity in the matching process as the final recognition result for a given experimental data character.

  • Today, 3D softwares have become an essential tool in all areas of Video, including Movies, Animations, CFs, Motion Graphics and Games. One of the most commonly used fields is the 3D character video part. However, these 3D character animations and motion graphics softwares are difficult to learn and too much to learn, making it difficult to learn them all in a university education with a limited time of four years. In this paper, many Inverse kinematics tools, which are essential in the 3D character animations and motion graphics field, compare and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of each tool, focusing on Bone, Character Studio, and Character Animation Toolkit, which are most commonly used in work fields. And use Delphi techniques for 3D experts to secure objectivity. Therefore, for universities that require large amounts of teaching in a limited time, I propose an analysis of which of the above three Inverse Kinetics tools is advantageous for students to select and focus on for efficient education.

  • "Know thyself" is one of the most famous ancient proverbs. We need to know ourselves to understand others and find true ourselves. Enneagram is one of the tools we can use to do it. It has drawn more and more attention from people by its effectiveness and spiritual depth. It has been widely promoted in both business management and spirituality contexts. It has many concepts to be understood. Holy ideas and virtues are understood to be restored to find our true self which is the purpose of using the Enneagram. Actually, holy ideas and virtues are similar with character qualities which comprise character. In this paper, holy ideas and virtues are matched with corresponding character qualities. To promote transformative process of character development through Enneagram, an app was designed. It has 2 levels. Level 1 is to find personality type and show corresponding character qualities of 9 personality types to users. Level 2 is to find subtypes and Enneagram Levels of Development for further purpose.

  • Character education is an important educational purpose in the current situation of secondary mathematics education. In the current mathematics curriculum, character education is mentioned in terms of core competencies. However, it is very difficult to concretely practice character education in secondary mathematics education. This paper examines the theoretical background of character education in the tradition of mathematics education, and suggests that mathematics is regarded as a practical tradition by the nature of mathematics from a value-intrinsic perspective. In this respect, mathematics education is defined as an intrinsic and nurturing character through long history of practice. This paper searched for an integrated approach to practicing character education in of secondary mathematics education, and argued that the teacher's personal approach including the class model approach of the human factors by an example of the exponential law aman = am+n and the value-oriented activities according to the nature of the mathematics was the core.

An Analysis on Awareness of the Importance of Character Education, Character Development Level and Needs for Character Education in Dental Hygiene (일부 치위생과 학생들의 인성교육에 대한 중요도 인식 및 인성발달 수준, 인성교육의 요구도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of dental hygiene students on the importance of character education, their level of character development and needs for that education in an effort to provide information on how to ensure the efficiency of character education. The subjects in this study were 180 selected dental hygiene students who took a course in "college life and character." After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed by a SPSS 23.0. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for awareness of the importance of character education, they placed the most importance on the virtue of filial piety and attached the least importance to the virtue of courage. Second, regarding awareness of the importance of character education by general characteristics, what type of high school they graduated from and whether they were religious or not made no differences to that, and there were differences according to academic year. Third, as to the current level of character development, they were most excellent in etiquette and caring. Fourth, the characteristics of the subjects made no differences to their current level of character development. Fifth, in regard to correlation between awareness of the importance of character education and the current level of character development, there was a positive correlation between it and every item except faithfulness. Sixth, as a result of analyzing their needs for character education, they gave top priority to moderation, followed by filial piety, faithfulness, responsibility, courage, wisdom, law abiding, justice, etiquette, respect, cooperation and caring. The results of this study should be used as basic data for character education.

Character Region Detection Using Structural Features of Hangul Vowel (한글 모음의 구조적 특징을 이용한 문자영역 검출 기법)

  • We proposes the method to detect the Hangul character region from natural image using topological structural feature of Hangul grapheme. First, we transform a natural image to a gray-scale image. Second, feature extraction performed with edge and connected component based method, Edge-based method use a Canny-edge detector and connected component based method applied the local range filtering. Next, if features are not corresponding to the heuristic rule of Hangul character, extracted features filtered out and select candidates of character region. Next, candidates of Hangul character region are merged into one Hangul character using Hangul character merging algorithm. Finally, we detect the final character region by Hangul character class decision algorithm. Experimental result, proposed method could detect a character region effectively in images that contains a complex background and various environments. As a result of the performance evaluation, A proposed method showed advanced results about detection of Hangul character region from mobile image.
