Functional Polymer Thin Films based on the Layer-by-Layer Deposition

  • Organic/organic and organic/inorganic multilayer films composed of organic polyelectrolytes (PE) and inorganic nanoparticles/platelets were prepared from the layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition using both spinning and dipping. The difference in both LbL methods is quantitatively compared in terms of internal layer ordering and physical properties of the multilayered films. Additionally, we suggest that the patterned multilayer films can be easily prepared by the combination of the spin SA and the lift-off method. Freestanding films were also prepared with the LbL deposition on low energy substrates, which allows the detailed analysis of composition within the films. Other LbL thin films prepared with block copolymer micelles will be discussed.

Thermally Stable Antireflective Coatings based on Nanoporous Organosilicate

  • Nanoporous organosilicate thin films were realized by the microphase separation of pore generating components mixed with an organosilicate matrix. The refractive index of such nanoporous organosilicate films can be tuned in the range of $1.40{\sim}1.22$. With a nanoporous single layer with n ${\sim}1.225,\;99.85\;%$ transmittance in the visible range was achieved. In order to overcome the limitation on the narrow wavelength for high transmittance imposed by single nanoporous thin films, bilayer thin films with different reflectance for each layer were prepared by inserting high refractive index layer with a refractive index of 1.447. It is demonstrated that the novel broadband antireflection coating with improved transmittance can be easily achieved by the nanoporous bilayer thin films described in present study.

순산소 분위기에서 촤 연소 및 질소산화물 배기특성 비교 (Comparative Study of Char Burn-Out and NOx Emissions in O2/N2 and O2/CO2 environments)

  • 본 연구에서는 Drop Tube Furnace(DTF)를 이용한 $O_2/N_2$, $O_2/CO_2$ 조건에서 산소 농도(12, 21, 31%)에 따른 아역청탄 입자의 연소특성 및 질소산화물 배출특성에 관한 실험과 수치해석을 수행하였다. $O_2/N_2$, $O_2/CO_2$ 조건에서 산소 농도가 증가함에 따라 촤 연소율이 증가하였고 $O_2/CO_2$ 조건하에서 이산화탄소 경계층에서 석탄입자 표면으로의 산소 확산계수가 낮아지기 때문에 촤 연소율이 감소하였다. 산소 농도가 증가함에 따라 배출되는 NO의 농도는 증가하지만 완전 연소 조건인 31%의 산소 농도에서는 오히려 NO의 농도가 감소하였다. 반면, NO 배출 지수는 산소가 증가함에 따라 점차 감소하였다. $O_2/CO_2$ 조건에서 NO의 농도는 Thermal NO의 결여로 인해 $O_2/N_2$ 조건보다 작게 나타났다.

민코 아역청탄의 순산소 연소특성 (Combustion Characteristics of Minco Sub-bituminous Coal at Oxy-Fuel Conditions)

  • New way to effectively capture $CO_2$ in coal fired power plant is the combustion of coal using oxy-fuel technology. Combustion characteristics of Minco sub-bituminous coal at oxy-fuel conditions using TGA and drop tube furnace (DTF) were included activation energy about the char burnout, volatile yield and combustion efficiency of raw coal, the porosity of pyrolyzed char and fusion temperature of by-product ash. TGA result shows that the effect of $CO_2$ on combustion kinetics reduces activation energy by approximately 7 kJ/mol at air oxygen level(21% $O_2$) and decreases the burning time by approximately 16%. The results from DTF indicated similar combustion efficiency under $O_2/CO_2$ and $O_2/N_2$ atmospheres for equivalent $O_2$ concentration whereas high combustion efficiency under $O_2/N_2$ than $O_2/CO_2$ was obtained for high temperature of more than $1,100^{\circ}C$. Overall coal burning rate under $O_2/CO_2$ is decreased due to the lower rate of oxygen diffusion into coal surface through the $CO_2$ rich boundary layer. By-product ash produced under $O_2/CO_2$ and $O_2/N_2$ was similar IDT in irrelevant to $O_2$ concentration and atmospheres gas during the coal combustion.

Structure Formation in Multilayered Films Prepared by the Layer-by-Layer Deposition using PAA and HM-PEO

  • In present study, poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and hydrophobically modified poly(ethylene oxide) (HM-PEO) multilayers based on the hydrogen bonding between the component polymer pair have been prepared by the LbL deposition method. Dip assembled HM-PEO/PAA multilayers yield unique film morphologies in comparison with PEO/PAA multilayers due to the micellar formation of HM-PEO owing to the hydrophobic attraction between alkyl chains end-capped with the PEO chains. Individual HM-PEO micelles were connected through the bridging PEO chains to form temporary networks on multilayer surface and induced peculiar surface morphology on HM-PEO/PAA multilayers above the critical number of bilayers.

Nanoporous Block Copolymer Micelle/Micelle Multilayer Films with Dual Optical Properties

  • We have demonstrated the formation of highly nanoporous films composed of two different BCMs through layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly on substrates. The films thus prepared showed tunable optical properties, with strong antireflective properties with light transmission above 99%. Considering the wide application areas of both LbL multilayers and block copolymer thin films, the approaches introduced in present study are likely to open up new possibilities for devices with multifunctional properties.

Fluorescent White OLEDs with a High Color-rendering Index Using a Silicon-Cored Anthracene Derivative as a Blue Host

  • Fluorescent white organic light-emitting diodes showing high color-rendering indices (CRIs) of up to 81 was demonstrated, with a silicon-cored anthracene derivative (PATSPA) doped with DPAVBi utilized as the deep-blue host and dye materials, and the commercial dyes rubrene and DCM2 utilized as the orange- and red-light-emitting dyes. The devices, consisting of three emissive layers, showed bright-white-light emission, but the ratio of the blue peak to the orange and red peaks changed with the current density and the thickness of the blue emissive layer. A high CRI was achieved with the use of a deep-blue emitter doped in a novel host and by optimizing the blue-layer thickness. The device with a blue-layer thickness of 10 nm showed the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) color coordinate of (0.33, 0.35), a high CRI of 81, and a moderate external quantum efficiency of 2% at a current density of $2.5\;mA/cm^2$.

  • $30^{\circ}-15^{\circ}$ 노즐의 실험결과와 FLUENT, 경계층 적분법, Bartz 예측식을 사용하여 수치계산한 대류열전달계수를 서로 비교하였다. 또한 NASA HIPPO 노즐을 대상으로 FLUENT와 경계층 적분법을 이용하여 연소가스특성에 따른 대류열전달계수를 계산하고 압력과의 상관관계를 비교하였다. NASA HIPPO 노즐을 대상으로 열반응 해석을 실시하여 연소가스특성에 따른 삭마두께와 숯 깊이를 비교하였다.

소각로내의 폐기물층 연소특성 파악을 위한 연소모델 개발 (A Development of Combustion Model for the Investigation of the Waste Bed Combustion Characteristics in a Waste Incinerator)

  • This study is to establish a waste bed combustion model that can be available to assist the design of incinerators for efficient operation control of municipal waste incinerators. An unsteady one -dimensional bed combustion modeling was developed which incorporates the various sub-process models and solves the governing equations for both gases and solids in the waste bed combustion phenomena. The combustion characteristics and the properties of the combustion gas released from the bed were investigated by using a developed model. Besides, a sub-model which predicts the formation and destruction of nitrogen oxides in the waste bed was also developed as a post-processor for the waste combustion model. It is found that the reduction rate of nitrogen oxides is enhanced in the char layer.

전기점화식 내연기관에 있어서 화염전파에 관한 연구 (On the flame propagation in a spark-ignited gasoline engine)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flame propagation phenomenon in the combustion chamber of spark-ignition gasoline engine for the idling condition. by means of four ion probes located through the cylinder head, the time intervals for the flame to arrive at the respective probes are read on th visicorder char. As results, the flame is considered to initiate after some ignition delay and to propagate through the central space of combustion chamber with rather constant speed on the order of 25m/sec, and thereafter to be slowed down approaching the wall. Additionally, the retardation of flame in the wall boundary layer could be inferred. The maximum pressure is developed when the flame nearly touches the wall diagonal to the spark plug. And some features of flame propagation are elucidate.
