  • This paper describes design, fabrication, and application of the silicon based temperature controllable micro reactor. In order to achieve fast temperature variation and low energy consumption, reaction chamber of the micro reactor was thermally isolated by etching the highly conductive silicon around the reaction chamber. Compared with the model not having thermally isolated structure, the thermally isolated micro reactor showed enhanced thermal performances such as fast temperature variation and low energy consumption. The performance enhancements of the micro reactor due to etched holes were verified by thermal experiment and numerical analysis. Regarding to 42 percents reduction of the thermal mass achieved by the etched holes, approximately 4 times faster thermal variation and 5 times smaller energy consumption were acquired. The total size of the fabricated micro reactor was $37{\times}30{\times}1mm^{3}$. Microchannel and reaction chamber were formed on the silicon substrate. The openings of channel and chamber were covered by the glass substrate. The Pt electrodes for heater and sensor are fabricated on the backside of silicon substrate below the reaction chamber. The dimension of channel cross section was $200{\times}100{\mu}m^{2}$. The volume of reaction chamber was $4{\mu}l$. The temperature of the micro reactor was controlled and measured simultaneously with NI DAQ PCI-MIO-16E-l board and LabVIEW program. Finally, the fabricated micro reactor and the temperature control system were applied to the thermal denaturation and the trypsin digestion of protein. BSA(bovine serum albumin) was chosen for the test sample. It was successfully shown that BSA was successfully denatured at $75^{\circ}C$ for 1 min and digested by trypsin at $37^{\circ}C$ for 10 min.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that estimates the channel response from underwater communication signals with MMSE (Minimun Mean Squared Error) and detects dominant components automatically based on power of response components using CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate). Statistical characteristics are analyzed with variation of magnitude and phase and time coherence via experimental data obtained by drifting transmitter and receiver. We show that bit error rate has small difference, 1.2 times, compared with the case using every channel information estimated within data period when estimation and equalization is performed with extracted characteristic obtained by the proposed method.

  • Most of the previous models for analysis of shallow water flow assumed the uniform velocity distributions over the flow depth so that they produced incorrect velocity prediction at meandering part due to the ignorance of secondary current. In this study, the vertical velocity profiles in longitudinal and transverse direction were decomposed as the mean and variation components, which resulted in additional dispersion stresses terms in momentum equations. The proposed model were applied at the channels with $30^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$ bends, and shallow water flow in curved channel was analyzed using dispersion stresses. The dispersion stresses acted as a sink or source in the momentum equations, which caused the transverse convection of momentum to shift from the inner bank to the outer bank.

  • The flow characteristics and heat transfer augment on the periodically arranged semi-circular ribs in a rectangular channel for turbulent flow has been investigated numerically. The aspect ratio of the rectangular channel was AR=5, the rib height to hydraulic diameter ratio were 0.07 and rib height to channel height ratio was set as e/H=0.117 for various PR(rib pitch-to-rib height rate) between 8~14, respectively. The SST k-${\omega}$ turbulence model and v2-f turbulence model were used to find out the heat transfer and the flow characteristics of near the wall which are suited to obtain realistic phenomena. The numerical analysis results show turbulent flow characteristics, heat transfer enhancement and friction factor as observed experimentally. The results predict that turbulent kinetic energy(k) is closely relative to the diffusion of recirculation flow. and v2-f turbulence model simulation results have a good agreement with experimental values.

  • An experimental study has been carried out using a rotating water channel in order to investigate the effect of surface roughness on the vertical dispersion of plume within boundary layer. Dispersion measurements of tracers released from two sources with different height at neutral conditions over various rough terrain ranging from rural to urban have been performed. Various values of roughness length were simulated by combining of 4 stream velocities and 3 roughness element conditions. Dispersion measurements have also been made for rough terrain where high buildings are locally concentrated. Values of $\sigma$z increase with roughness and this tendency appears to apply both cases of with and without locally concentrated high buildings. The comparisons of the Bowne's nomogram on $\sigma$2 vs x relationship and the measurements of $\sigma$2 with roughness show good accordance in $\sigma$2 distribution at stability D class over rural, suburban and urban terrain. For constant roughness length the $\sigma$2 values of plumes from lower source height are smaller than those of plumes from higher source at short downwind distance, but this relationship becomes reverse as distance increases. Crossing appears to be made before about 2km. The value of constant I in McMullen's equation $\sigma$2=exp [I+J(In x) + K(In x)2] appears to increase with roughness length, however, the relationships between other constants and roughness have been confirmed. The values of $\sigma$2 for various downwind distances, estimated by using an equation which is employed in ISC (Industrial Source Complex) dispersion model for areas where high buildings are locally assembled, are in accordance with measurements from water channel experiments.

  • In this paper, the subthreshold characteristics have been alanyzed using MicroTec4.0 for double gate MOSFET(DGMOSFET). The technology for characteristic analysis of device for high integration is changing rapidly. Therefore to understand characteristics of high-integrated device by computer simulation and fabricate the device having such characteristics became one of very important subjects. The oxide thickness and channel thickness in DG MOSFET determines threshold voltage and extensively influences on Ss(Subthreshold swing). We have investigated the threshold voltage and Ss(Subthreshold swing) characteristics according to variation of channel thickness from 1nm to 3nm in this study.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a high speed power-line communication modem, supported up to the transmission rate of 480kbps in a lower frequency band of under 450kHz. The power-line channel model is discussed in the sense of the lower frequency band, and the transmission technique of OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is considered to improve the throughput effectively. According to the power-line channel variation, the designed modem can select the modulation mapping between a 16-QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) or a QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying). Thus, it makes a sufficient QoS even in a poor channel environments. With a implementation result, we show that it gives a variable transmission rate of 480kbps or 240kbps in the signal bandwidth of $50kHz{\sim}450kHz$.

  • Operating small cell with existing macro cell is of interest in wireless communication technology to enhance network capacity. Closed-access small cell allows the access of users registered in it and causes severe interference to nearby users connected to macrocell. We propose a dynamic channel allocation for small cells in the same building that first aim to minimize call-drop of the nearby macrocell users, and then want to reduce interferences between the small cells. Since the interference effect of small cells on the nearby macrocell users mainly depends on the small cells' position, the proposed algorithm includes a self-configuration to flexibly allocate frequency channels according to the variation of downlink quality of the macrocell users. Furthermore the algorithm is very simple and practical, which is main contribution of this paper. We observe that the proposed algorithm provides 82-94% of maximum achievable throughput.

  • Unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of the wing with flaperon flying over nonplanar ground surface are investigated using a boundary-element method. The time-stepping method is used to simulate the wake shape according to the motion of the wing and flaperon over the surface or in the channel. The aerodynamic coefficient according to the periodic motion of the flaperon is shown as the shape of loop. The rolling moment coefficient of the wing flying in the channel is same as that of the wing flying over the ground surface. The variation range of pitching moment is wider when the wing flies in the channel than over the ground surface. The present method can provide various aerodynamic derivatives to secure the stability of superhigh speed vehicle flying over nonplanar ground surface using the present method.

  • The effect of spreading gain control on the throughput of a CDMA slotted ALOHA system is considered. Mobile users transmit packets over a shared channel, and the packets transmitted in the same time slot over the shared channel act as simultaneous access interference (SAI). When using spread-spectrum signal, a CDMA slotted ALOHA channel achieves high probability of capture due to the property of high title resolution, and the bit rate of user information is determined by spreading gain. When the SAI level gets larger, the high value of spreading gain enhances the packet throughput by increasing the probability of a successful packet transmission, while it degrades the of the effective throughput by reducing the user information bits carried within a packer. To solve the problem, we investigated the effect of the capture probability and the SAI level on these system throughputs, and evaluated the throughput performance of the system for each spreading gain control scheme. The results showed that the maximum effective throughput could be achieved with an unified method despite the variation of the SAI level by deriving an optimal value of the spreading gain according to 171e system states.
