Measurement and simulation of high-frequency bistatic sea surface scattering channel in shallow water of Geoje bay (거제 내만해역에서의 고주파 양상태 해수면 음파산란 채널 측정 및 모의)

  • High-frequency bistatic sea surface scattering channels according to sea state were measured at an experimental site of Geoje bay in April 2020, and compared with predictions based on scattering theory. A linear frequency-modulated signal with a center frequency of 128 kHz and a bandwidth of 32 kHz was used for the acoustic measurements. Sea surface wavenumber spectrum was calculated from surface roughness data measured by a wave buoy, and bistatic scattering cross-section of Small Slope Approximation (SSA) based on the wavenumber spectrum was estimated. In addition, scattering from near-surface bubbles using wind speed measured during experiments was considered. Surface scattering channel intensity impulse responses were simulated using the scattering cross-section and the simulation results were compared and analyzed with the field data.

  • In this study, changes in the fluvial landforms of the Yeoju section of the Han River, which was made up of the Han River Restoration Project, were examined through existing previous research data, government's environmental impact assessment data, satellite images, and field observations. For example, In the vicinity of Dori Island, the most upstream part of the study section, the location of the confluence of the Han River and Cheongmi Stream was changed, and it was found that a significant portion of the sand sedimentary layer disappeared. In the Bawuinupgubi area, the wetland, which is the first class in the ecological nature, was greatly modified, and the elevation of the ground rose as Gangcheon island and it was completely separated from the river by dredging The confluence of Geumdangcheon and the point bar of Yeonyang-ri in the south were also dredged, turned into an artificial waterfront park, and a chute channel remained in the form of a wetland was also developed as a recreational park. The deposional forms around Baekseok-ri islands also disappeared as dredging was carried out. Among the areas adjacent to the confluence of Bokcheon and Yangchon-ri Island, some sedimentay forms remains, but the abandonned channel between Yangchon-ri and the northern river bank has been changed into a riverside reservoir through dredging and embankment construction, and the waterway of the tributary river(Yazoo) has been greatly changed.

Non-Dialog Section Detection for the Descriptive Video Service Contents Authoring (화면해설방송 저작을 위한 비 대사 구간 검출)

  • This paper addresses a problem of non-dialog section detection for the DVS authoring, the goal of which is to find meaningful section from the broadcasting audio, where audio description can be inserted. The broadcasting audio involves the presence of various sounds so that it first discriminates between speech and non-speech for each audio frame. Proposed method jointly exploits the inter-channels structure and speech source characteristics of the broadcasting audio whose number of channel is stereo. Also, rule based post-processing is finally applied to detect the non-dialog section whose length is appropriate for audio description. Proposed method provides more accurate detection compared to conventional method. Experimental results on real broadcasting contents show that qualitative superiority of the proposed method.

The Relation of Cross-sectional Residual Current and Stratification during Spring and Neap Tidal Cycle at Seokmo Channel, Han River Estuary Located at South Korea (대.소조기시 한강하구 석모수로에서 단면 잔차류와 성층간의 관계 연구)

  • This study analyzed cross-sectional variations in residual current and strengths of stratification by observing cross-sectional velocity and salinity during spring tide and neap tide, respectively, for continuous 13-hour periods at 2 observation lines at northern and southern end of Seokmo Channel, which is located west of Ganghwado. Salinity distribution of channel depends on not only neap and spring tide but also impact of salinity. The residual current component was obtained by removing $M_2$ and $M_4$ tidal components that were extracted using the least squares method on 13-hour velocity component. Cross-section of residual velocity at northern and southern end of Seokmo Channel exhibited southward residual components at channel's surface layer, but northward residual current was observed at channel's bottom layer, clearly showing a 2-layer tidal circulation between surface and bottom layers. The variation in location of appearing northward residual current according to changes in spring and neap tidal cycle and its correlation with stratification were analyzed using the Richardson number and Simpsonhunter index. At northern and southern end of Seokmo Channel, northward residual current appears in the location where Richardson number is large, Simpson-hunter index appears as a value greater than 4.

The Implementation of Multi-Channel Audio Codec for Real-Time operation (실시간 처리를 위한 멀티채널 오디오 코덱의 구현)

  • This paper describes the implementation of a multi-channel audio codec for HETV. This codec has the features of the 3/2-stereo plus low frequency enhancement, downward compatibility with the smaller number of channels, backward compatibility with the existing 2/0-stereo system(MPEG-1 audio), and multilingual capability. The encoder of this codec consists of 6-channel analog audio input part with the sampling rate of 48 kHz, 4-channel digital audio input part and three TMS320C40 /DSPs. The encoder implements multi-channel audio compression using a human perceptual psychoacoustic model, and has the bit rate reduction to 384 kbit/s without impairment of subjective quality. The decoder consists of 6-channel analog audio output part, 4-channel digital audio output part, and two TMS320C40 DSPs for a decoding procedure. The decoder analyzes the bit stream received with bit rate of 384 kbit/s from the encoder and reproduces the multi-channel audio signals for analog and digital outputs. The multi-processing of this audio codec using multiple DSPs is ensured by high speed transfer of date between DSPs through coordinating communication port activities with DMA coprocessors. Finally, some technical considerations are suggested to realize the problem of real-time operation, which are found out through the implementation of this codec using the MPEG-2 layer II sudio coding algorithm and the use of the hardware architecture with commercial multiple DSPs.

3D Flow Simulation in the Meandering Natural Channel (사행 자연수로에서의 3차원 흐름 모의)

  • In a natural river, cross sections of a channel vary according to inner or outer parts of meandering. Generally, depth of outer parts is deeper than that of inner parts. This kind of cross section change by meandering can be demonstrated by Beta distribution. The objects of this research is a 3D simulation of primary and secondary flow in the meandering natural channel. FLOW-3D program, a numerical model using CFD technique, and LES method was used for this research. 3D simulations were conducted in the channels having Beta distribution cross sections which have beds of mortar, gravel and vegetation. Two types of water stages and discharge were applied to each channel. In this research, primary flows are located in the outer parts of a top of bend and secondary flows rotate in the bottom on outer parts.

  • This paper presents a way to maximize transmission efficiency and reception ability through transmission diversity technology, which can be adapted to wireless multimedia OFDM system. The presented method is a comparative analysis between a case where parameter ${\alpha}$ for time average is 0.3, 1 with consideration of channel presumption with two types of rms delayed spread, which is 50nsec, 150nsec, for the performance analysis of STTC(Space-Time Trellis Code) using time-space ciphering method appropriate for MIMO channel, and performance in the case where presumed channel value from long training column section is applied to according frame in a single frame. The result showed that BER brought SNR improvement of 1.0 dB in $10^{-3}$ when ${\alpha}$ was 0.3 than using only the long training column, and showed increase of general performance improvement for the sake of time average rather than the case without.

Numerical investigation of web crippling strength in cold-formed stainless steel lipped channels with web openings subjected to interior-two-flange loading condition

  • In cold-formed stainless steel lipped channel-sections, use of web openings for service purposes are becoming increasingly popular. Web openings, however, result in the sections becoming more susceptible to web crippling. This paper presents a finite element investigation into the web crippling strength of cold-formed stainless steel lipped channel-sections with circular web openings under the interior-two-flange (ITF) loading condition. The cases of web openings located centred and offset to the bearing plates are considered in this study. In order to take into account the influence of the circular web openings, a parametric study involving 2,220 finite element analyses was performed, covering duplex EN1.4462, austenitic EN1.4404 and ferritic EN1.4003 stainless steel grades. From the results of the parametric study, strength reduction factor equations are proposed. The strengths obtained from reduction factor equations are first compared to the strengths calculated from the equations recently proposed for cold-formed carbon steel lipped channel-sections. It is demonstrated that the strength reduction factor equations proposed for cold-formed carbon steel are unconservative for the stainless steel grades by up to 17%. New coefficients for web crippling strength reduction factor equations are then proposed that can be applied to all three stainless steel grades.

Flow Near the Meniscus of a Pressure-Driven Water Slug in Microchannels

  • Micro-PIV system with a high speed CCD camera is used to measure the flow field near the advancing meniscus of a water slug in microchannels. Image shifting technique combined with meniscus detecting technique is proposed to measure the relative velocity of the liquid near the meniscus in a moving reference frame. The proposed method is applied to an advancing front of a slug in microchannels with rectangular cross section. In the case of hydrophilic channel, strong flow from the center to the side wall along the meniscus occurs, while in the case of the hydrophobic channel, the fluid flows in the opposite direction. Further, the velocity near the side wall is higher than the center region velocity, exhibiting the characteristics of a strong shear-driven flow. This phenomenon is explained to be due to the existence of small gaps between the slug and the channel wall at each capillary corner so that the gas flows through the gaps inducing high shear on the slug surface. Simulation of the shape of a static droplet inside a cubic cell obtained by using the Surface Evolver program is supportive of the existence of the gap at the rectangular capillary corners. The flow fields in the circular capillary, in which no such gap exists, are also measured. The results show that a similar flow pattern to that of the hydrophilic rectangular capillary (i.e., center-to-wall flow) is always exhibited regardless of the wettability of the channel wall, which is also indicative of the validity of the above-mentioned assertion.

The estimation of friction coefficient by using entropy theory in open channels (엔트로피 이론에 의한 개수로 마찰계수 산정)

  • Both the friction velocity and the friction coefficient have to be estimated to determine flow characteristic in an open channel. In spite of the importances in an open channel, the complete interpretation is highly difficult because of free water surface, the complex of cross section and the various hydraulic parameters. The researches related to the friction factor are based on empirical outcome. Therefore, the equations are difficult to be generally applied. For that reason, the new friction factor estimation equation using the entropy concept was proposed in the present study, and the data measured in rectangular and trapezoid cross sections was used to verify the accuracy of equation. The advantage of the proposed equation dose not use the energy slope term which is difficult to be measured and to be estimated in an open channel. In addition, the proposed method showed that the accurate friction factor f can be estimated on the Basis of theoretical background.
