  • There is under restructuring of whole distribution market in Mokpo recently. Large-Scale Discount Stores such as E-mart, Lotte Mart, Homeplus and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart entered successfully in the distribution environment in Mokpo. However, the small and medium distributors are falling rapidly, and traditional market is depressed. This status gives some positive effects to make one-stop, good price, good quality and great variety of shopping for saving the time and effort through changing the customers' life-style. This change, however, made the traditional market worse that played as the core channel for trading the local special products and an important role for local economic in retailing market. It is a threatening factor for that traditional market to recover the recession. The decline of traditional market and the bankruptcy of small retailing dealers accelerate the stagnation of local economic and commercial power. Therefore, it need a systematic and synthetical study to solve the negative factors for improving life of the local resident. This paper looked into the concept, issues and development strategy of traditional market that affect local economic development directly. It studied the customers' awareness for traditional market that was recently modernized the facilities in Mokpo. Particularly, based on the research material that was published last academic symposium, it looked about the issues and development strategy that could happen in traditional market not the market of a specific region but all over the country. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is that the central and local government and retailers get a help to make the efficient and useful development strategy through analyzing the effects of customers for modernizing the facilities of traditional market.

  • The demarcation of Maritime Boundary is directly related to the expansion of jurisdiction and the securing of resources. Resource diplomacies of the three countries Korea, China and Japan represent a major task for the national administrations : to secure resources as well as to stablize and sustain resources for future national economies. At the sea area around Korea as well, countries are fiercely competing to secure resources and to expand jurisdiction. This is evidenced by the fact that various principles and logics which are beneficial to each own country are presented through international precedents, agreement between countries and the theories of the international law scholars. They say that the conclusion of demarcation of maritime boundary for the Yellow Sea would be easy from the point that there is no dispute related to island dominion in the waters of the Korean Peninsula especially the Yellow Sea, but still we need to have a strategic approach to this issue from the point that the factors used for claiming maritime boundaries may expand the waters of a country over much. For example, the continental shelf boundary in consideration of the distribution of sedimentary deposits in the Yellow Sea which is being raised by China began from the hypothesis that the inflow of sedimentary deposits to the Yellow Sea through the rivers of China represents absolute majority, but the results of the latest studies raised questions on the hypothesis. Especially, the studies done by Martin and Yang revealed that the inflow of sedimentary deposits to the Yellow Sea from the Yellow River is approximately less than 1% of total sedimentary deposits in the Yellow Sea, and also the result of analysis on the causes and counter policy measures on the environment of Bohai, China supports the reliability of the results of such studies. From a legal aspect, the sedimentary deposits of rivers which are claimed by China represent extremely weak ground for the claim for the title of the continental shelf. The siltline claimed by China seems to be based on the Article 76-4-(a)(i) of UNCLOS. This is, however, not the definition on the title of the continental shelf but it is only a technical formula to utilize in a case where a country desires to expand the continental shelf to over 200 nautical miles. Scientific and Technical Guidelines of the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf also confirm this point through the Article 2.1.2 of the Guideline. The only case in which sedimentary deposits of rivers were referred to as concrete demarcation of maritime boundary was in the which was concluded in 1986 between India and Myanmar at the Andaman Sea. In the said case, India acknowledged the boundary up to the isobath of 200m which Myanmar claimed based on the sedimentary deposits of the Irrawaddy River. It has limits as a case for acknowledging the sedimentary deposits, however, because in fact India's acknowledgment was made in exchange for the condition that Myanmar gave up the dominion of two islands which they had been claiming from India up until that time.

  • Community structure and distribution patterns of benthic polychaetes were studied in Aug. 1983 and Feb. 1984 in Kwangyang Bay, Korea. During the study period, the large-scale reclamation and dredging operations were taking place. Polychaetes were composed of 76 species with a mean density of $342\;ind.{\cdot}m^{-2}$ during the summer 1983 and 77 species with a mean density of $437\;ind.{\cdot}m^{-2}$ during the winter 1984. Community structure indices were applied to the seasonal data. The stations influenced by the Seomjin river are characterized by a low species number and low diversity, while the stations located in channel regions represent high species richness and highdiversity. The inner bay stations showed the intermediate level in terms of species richness and diversity. On the basis of taxa composition and abundance in summer, the cluster analysis indicated that the study area was divided into live regions. The main factors that govern the polychaete distributions appeared to be the fresh water run-off and bottom sediment composition. However, a slight difference was observed in winter community, and changes in composition of the dominant species were found from Lagis bocki and Chone teres to Glycinde gurjanovae and Heteromastus filiformis. As a result, the broad scale reclamation and dredging activities may have played a role in changes of the polychaete community structure and the dominant species composition in Kwangyang Bay.

  • The inequitable flow distribution to flocculation basins is an important problem faced in many water treatment plants. This is caused by the structure of a distribution channel, the height differences of outlet weirs etc. But, a modified approach for the structures has no effectiveness to achieve flow equality. The aim of this study is to reduce the inequality by adopting optimized inlet valve opening (%) of the flocculation basins using DOE (Design of Experiments) and RSA (Response Surface Analysis). The inlet valve openings (%) and inflow distributions (%) of 6 paralleled basins were set as factors (X) and characteristics(Y) respectively. 2 level factorial experiments and RSA were conducted for optimization and regression analysis (Y = f(X) + Const.). Adopting the optimized inlet valve opening (%) at field, standard deviation of flow distribution (%) and effluent turbidity was declined from 3.80% to 0.42% and from 0.29 NTU to 0.03 NTU respectively.

  • Purpose: Cavity growth process monitoring is to periodically monitor changes in common size and topography for general and observational grades to predict the rate of common growth. The purpose of this study is to establish a systematic cavity management plan by evaluating the general and observational class community in a non-destructive method. Method: Using GPR exploration equipment, the acquired surface image and the surrounding status image are analyzed in the GPR probe radargram in depth, profile, and cross section of the location. The exact location is selected using the distance and surrounding markings shown on the road surface of the initial detection cavity, and the test cavity is analyzed by calling the radar at the corresponding location. Result: As a result of monitoring tests conducted at a cavity 30 sites of general and observation grade, nine sites have been recovered. Changes in scale were seen in 21 cavity locations, and changes in size and grade occurred in 13 locations. Conclusion: The under road cavity is caused by various causes such as damage to the burial site, poor construction, soil leakage caused by groundwater leakage, waste and ground vibration. Among them, indirect factors could infer the effects of groundwater and localized rainfall.

  • It has been demonstrated that majority of cells in the mammalian body such as myocytes and epithelial cells of skin and intestine respond to mechanical force or environmental factors and exhibit partial disruption of cell membrane, i. e., cell wounding, even in a physiological condition. Myocardial cells are rather apt to be wounded than other cells since they are definitely exposed to mechanical stress by contraction-relaxation and blood flow. However, the mechanism how myocardial cells protect themselves against cell wounding is not yet clarified. On this background, the present study was performed to elucidate whether albumin leakage is related to cell wounding and to assess whether diltiazem, a potent calcium channel blocker, is beneficial in isoproterenol-induced cell wounding in the heart. Hearts isolated from New Zealand White rabbits ($1.5\sim2.0kg$ body weight, n=20) were perfused with Tyrode solution by Langendorff technique. After stabilization of baseline hemodynamics, the hearts were subjected to bolus administration of isoproterenol and diltiazem as following order: $1.6{\mu}M$ isoproterenol at zero min (the beginning point): $16{\mu}M$ diltiazem at 20min; $1.6{\mu}M$ isoproterenol at 25min; $16{\mu}M$ isoproterenol at 45 min; $160{\mu}M$ diltiazem at 65 min; $16{\mu}M$ isoproterenol at 70 min. During all experiments, the left ventricular function was recorded, albumin leakage in the coronary effluents was analyzed by electrophoresis and Western blot, and myocardial cell membranes were examined by conventional transmission electron microscopy. Data were analyzed by t-test and linear regression test. Isoproterenol significantly increased the inotropic and chronotropic contractions, coronary flow, and frequency of arrhythmia, however, diltiazem did not influence on hemodynamics except decrease in the frequency of arrhythmia and a slight decrease in contractility. Isoproterenol also resulted partial disruption of myocardial cell membrane and inclose in albumin leakage, while diltiazem pretreatment showed number of electron-dense plaques in the cell membrane and a tendency of decrease in albumin leakage. These results indicate that albumin leakage may be an indirect index of cell wounding in the heart and diltiazem nay be beneficial to protect myocardial cells against isoproterenol-induced cell wounding. It is likely that diltiazem promotes resealing process of the cell membrane.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the composition and the distribution of the benthic community in the coastal area of Inchon seasonally from May 1994 to February 1995, and to estimate the environmental factors that effect the temporal and the spatial changes of benthic species composition. In the present study, 231 species were collected with the average density of 455 ind./$m^2$. The dominant species were Heteromastus sp., Sternaspis scutata, Chaetozone setosa, Mediomastus sp., Glycinde sp., Glycera sp. and Nephtys oligobranchia, which are in the polychaete group; abundance of these species showed seasonal and spatial variations. The study area was divided into 4 regions by cluster analysis such as outside area of Palmido (I), main channel region and adjacent are of Shihwa sea wall (II), north-eastern area of Youngjongdo (III), and the Inchon harbor and the mouth area of Sorae harbor (IV). The particle size of sediment which generally influences the distribution of the benthic community, the differences of the concentration of heavy metals, and of the dissolved oxygen, the increase of the proportion of polychaetes and molluscs, the absence of the crustacean phoxocephalids, and the increase of the abundance of pollution indicator species, indicated that the environment of the areas have been degrading gradually from Group I to Group IV.

  • The regional division by the characteristics of the drainage patterns is important to understand its physical environment comprehensively, because the drainage network develops in reflecting characteristics of geological, geographical and climatical features in the drainage basin keenly. This study is the attempt to divide physical region in China whose drainage pattern is diverse. Chinese drainage basin is mainly divided into the interior drainage basin and the peripheral drainage basin. The interior drainage basin is divided into (1)the deranged pattern and (2)the centripetal pattern. The peripheral drainage basin is divided into (1)the dendritic pattern, (2)the parallel pattern, (3)the radial pattern and (4)the anastomatic pattern. Drainage patterns of the interior drainage basin are formed by affecting geographical features and climatic conditions mainly. In the peripheral drainage basin, drainage patterns are formed by other factors: the parallel pattern is connected with geological structure lineament by tectonic movement, the radial pattern with changes of the river channel resulted from the Yellow River's overflow, the anastomotic pattern with human's activities. The distributional features of the physical region in China are as follows: The deranged pattern appears in Zangbai Plateau, the centripetal pattern does in arid basin of the northwest China. the parallel pattern does in Hengduan mountains affected strongly by tectonic movement between Yangtze paraplatform and Indian Plate, does in the upper stream of Yangtze River and Ganges River in the south of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, the radial pattern in Huaihe Haihe River drainage basin appearing in the alluvial fan region of Yellow River's downstream and the anastomotic pattern does in the delta of Yangtze River, in the northern coastal plain of the Jiangsu-Province and in the delta of Zhujiang River. Except these areas in the peripheral drainage basin, the dendritic pattern is usually found in the other areas.

  • This study is based on a series of numerical modeling experiments to understand the circulation and its change in the Chunsu Bay (CSB), Yellow Sea of Korea. A skill analysis was performed for the tidal height and tidal current of the observation data using the amplitude and phase of the 4 major tidal constituents respectively for verification of modeling experimental results. As a result, most of the skill score was seen to be over 90%, so numerical model experiment results can be said to be in good agreement with the observed tidal height and tidal current. Tidal wave proceeded from the entrance of the CSB towards inside, and the tidal range gradually increased to the north. It took about 10 to 30 minutes for the tidal wave to reach to northern end. The tidal wave showed a characteristic to rotate counter-clockwise in the southern part. The tidal current flowed to the north-south direction along the bottom topography; the angle of the major axis appeared alongside the isobath. It showed the characteristics of reversing tidal current with the minor axis less than 10% of the major axis. The strength of the tidal residual current that is influenced by geographical factors including bathymetry and coastline showed the range of 1~30 cm/sec, greater in the south channel and smaller in northern Bay. Two pairs of cyclonic/anti-cyclonic eddies around Jukdo and 3~4 pairs of strong eddies at the southern part of CSB in hundreds of m to a few km size by relative vorticity derived from the tidal residual current.

  • South Korean broadcasting industry has been under a significant level of structural change since the permission of new general programming channels in the end of 2010. One of the most characteristic features of the change may be the exodus of core manpower from the in-house productions of major terrestrial broadcasters which have been maintaining their dominant power over broadcasting content market based on their systems of tight vertical integration. This paper sheds light on the presence of a purposeful 'mechanism design' that aims to the expansion of market logics in South Korean broadcasting sector by promoting commercial media conglomerates, and analyses how this external design has been actualized while being interlocked with various internal factors of the broadcasting industry. This paper shows that on the backdrop of the mechanism design, some of new media conglomerates has successfully provided various incentives in contrast with those disincentive of terrestrial broadcasters, which in turn, has facilitated the exodus of elite producers. This paper, however, raises a set of questions about whether this relocation process of creativity led by commercial media conglomerates would, in the long term, guarantee more opportunities and potentials for the producers, as promised. As part of conclusion, inherent problems of present mechanism design are highlighted.
