Fashion Cultural Products Design using Folk Belief Symbols - Focused on Changsuengs and Sotdaes - (민속신앙 상징물에 의한 패션문화상품 디자인 연구 - 장승과 솟대를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to design fashion-cultural products by reviewing the symbolism in Changseung and Sotdae, which are folk belief sculptures. This study was performed by literature reviews of Changseung and Sotdae in order to look into the characteristics of folk belief and traditional culture, and the designs were developed from the symbolism extracted from Changseung and Sotdae with photoshop CS5 and illustrator CS5. The Symbolism of Changseung and Sotdae were as follows: First, Changseung and Sotdae express the 'symbiotic world view' that human beings need to devote one's life to nature. Second, original materials were saved in order to achieve the 'pursuit of essence'. Third, 'simple esthetic expression' was symbolized through the undivided condition between art, religion and life. And fourth, 'empathic humor' was seen through the basis of emotional sense of affinity. The first concept of design development was 'Pursuit of Essence', which was inspired by the characteristics of 'symbiotic world view' and 'pursuit of essence'. Changseungs were expressed as simple and abstract, and Sotdaes as simplified and modern by symmetrical and rotating copy. The second concept, 'Touch of Humor' was inspired by 'simple esthetic expression' and 'emphatic humor'. The face of Changseungs was exaggerated in a humorous ways and Sotdae was developed as sub-motives. The items for the fashion-cultural design were T-shirts, bags, and scarves. Total of 24 items were developed with 4 differently styled designs for each concept. This study was based on basic culture and attempted to diversify the traditional culture items. It hopes to raise the value of traditional culture, and furthermore help build up national competitiveness.

Relationship between the Interpersonal Disposition and Interactive Characteristics of Nursing College Students: A Social Network Analysis (간호대학생들의 상호작용 특징과 대인관계성향의 관계: 사회연결망 분석을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to use the social network analysis to verify the relationship between the interpersonal disposition and interactive characteristics of nursing college students. Five classes, a total of 117 nursing students were included in the study. Methods: The study interaction network centralization, density and in-degree & out-degree centrality were used as indicators for measuring students' study interaction. Also, the students' interpersonal disposition was measured using verified tool. Results: The results indicated that the ordinary type which gave and took the information generally showed the highest proportions in the study interaction network. Also, the empathic-acceptable tendency of social relation domain showed the highest proportions in the interpersonal disposition. Moreover, the students who play the isolate and the carrier role in the study interaction network had no relation with the expression tendency, and the transmitter role play students had no relation with the role tendency. Conclusion: Based on the results, the tutors should consider the students' interpersonal relationship disposition when implementing the instructional strategy in PBL curriculum.

Development of ROS2-on-Yocto-based Thin Client Robot for Cloud Robotics (클라우드 연동을 위한 ROS2 on Yocto 기반의 Thin Client 로봇 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose an embedded robot system based on "ROS2 on Yocto" that can support various robots. We developed a lightweight OS based on the Yocto Project as a next-generation robot platform targeting cloud robotics. Yocto Project was adopted for portability and scalability in both software and hardware, and ROS2 was adopted and optimized considering a low specification embedded hardware system. We developed SLAM, navigation, path planning, and motion for the proposed robot system validation. For verification of software packages, we applied it to home cleaning robot and indoor delivery robot that were already commercialized by LG Electronics and verified they can do autonomous driving, obstacle recognition, and avoidance driving. Memory usage and network I/O have been improved by applying the binary launch method based on shell and mmap application as opposed to the conventional Python method. Finally, we verified the possibility of mass production and commercialization of the proposed system through performance evaluation from CPU and memory perspective.

Factors Affecting the Consciousness of Biomedical Ethics of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 생명의료윤리의식 영향 요인)

  • The aim of this study was to identify the factors influencing the consciousness of biomedical ethics in nursing students. The study was conducted on 516 nursing students in C Province and from September $15^{th}$ to October $5^{th}$ 2013. The data was analyzed using a t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression. The significant positive correlation with a critical thinking disposition and professional self-concept. Significant factors influencing the consciousness of biomedical ethics were the critical thinking disposition, experience of biomedical ethic education, academic grade, professional self-concept, and family members' involvement in medical related areas. Considering this result, the development of educational programs of biomedical ethics for nursing students should reflect affecting factors identified.

The Origin of Changseung and Ongjung Stone (장승의 기원과 옹중석)

  • There is the need to make a sharp distinction as regards JANGSEUNGs (Korean traditional totem poles) that are different in origin, history and function. This study is to identify the functions of the figures, as well as to trace stone JANGSEUNGs to their origins. In this regard, researched were conducted into the origins of JANGSEUNGs and their changes in history. There was a tradition in the GORYEO Dynasty (an ancient dynasty in the Korean Peninsula) that it erected JANGSAENGs (the archaic name of JANGSEUNGs) or allied stone figures within temples; especially, 'TONGDOSA GUKJANGSAENG SEOKPYO (a stone JANGSAENG that was erected by the royal command and is at the entrance of TONGDO Temple located in YANGSAN, South GYEONGSANG Province, South Korea)' functions as a stone monument rather than as a stone sign. In the engraved inscription, it is written that it should be erected in the form of PANA as before. 'PANA' refers to 'ZHONGKUI', a god in Chinese Taoism believed to exorcise devils that spread diseases. The inscription is to define the territory of TONGDO Temple. The article on HAN JUN GYEOM in a book 'WORAKGI (a travelogue on WORAK Mountain in North CHUNGCHEONG Province, South Korea)' written by HEO MOK makes it possible to guess the scale of GUKJANGSAENGs erected in DOGAP Temple. The stones, on which 'GUKJANGSAENG' or 'HWANGJANGSAENG' were engraved, are not JANGSAENGs but are demarcation posts. In the JOSEON Dynasty (the last dynasty in the Korean Peninsula) JANGSAENGs functioned as signposts. Unlike JANGSAENGs in temples, they were made of wood. At first, the word 'JANGSAENG' was written '長生' in Chinese characters, but in the JOSEON Dynasty another character '木 (wood)' was added to them, and thus the orthography was likely to change into 'JANGSEUNG.' In the JOSEON Dynasty, in addition, optative or geomantic figures were not called 'JANGSEUNG.' Historically, for instance, there has been no case where 'DOL HARBANGs (stone figures found only in JEJU ISLAND, South Korea)' are called 'JANGSEUNG.' In a book 'TAMRA GINYEON (a historical record on JEJU Island, South Korea)' it is written that KIM MONG GYU, JEJU governor, erected ONGJUNG Stones outside the fortress gate. ONGJUNG Stones usually refer to stone statues erected in front of ancient kings or dignitaries' mausoleums. Moreover, they were geomantic figures erected to suppress miasma. A magazine 'GWANGJUEUPJI (a journal on old GWANGJU, South Korea, 1899)' shows that two two ONGJUNG Stones were so erected that they might look at each other to suppress miasma from a pathway through which lucks lose. On the two stone figures located in BUAN-EUP, North JEOLLA Province, South Korea, inscriptions 'SANGWON JUJANGGUN' and 'HAWON DANGJANGGUN' were engraved. The words are to identify the figures' sexes. They are a kind of optative geomantic figures, and therefore there is no reason to call them 'JANGSAENG' or 'JANGSEUNG' or 'DANGSAN.' The words 'SANGWON' and 'HAWON' are closely associated with Taoism. Since then, the words have been widely used as inscriptions on stone figures in temples, and subsequently are used for JANGSEUNGs. A hatted ONGJUNG Stone, found in BUKANSAN Fortress, disappeared and other ones may be being buried somewhere. Meanwhile, ONGJUNG Stones in JEJU Island and stone figures in BUAN-EUP have hardly been displaced and thus have properly functioned. Stone figures, made in those days, seem to be most similar in function to JANGSAENGs made during the GORYEO Dynasty. Specifically, like earlier JANGSAENGs, stone figures made during the early to mid-18th century were likely to function not only as optative figures but as boundary stones. Most of stone figures in temples were made whenever the land use survey was conducted throughout the nation, but given that at the same period of time, the commonalty filed many lawsuits against grave sites, temples might erect many stone figures to mark their territories. Currently, wooden or stone figures are commonly called 'JANGSEUNG', but they were erected in different epochs and for different reasons. Their origins are to be sought in stone figures that functioned not only as optative figures in temples but as boundary stones during the GORYEO Dynasty.
