It is well known that the drastic change of hydrological characteristics of an urbanized basin causes severe runoff, sediment yield, and peak flow. High vulnerability of urban flood disasters is caused by land-use change and development of a basin. A typical site suffering urbanization was selected and the experimental site has being operated last three years. Hydrological and hydraulic characteristics of the urbanizing basin were examined by observation of runoff, sediment loads and precipitation with T/M. The effects of land-use change were analyzed by examination of the hydrological characteristics, such as run-off ratio (runoff volume/rainfall volume), sediment yields. Runoff coefficient of rational equation was increased as basin was urbanized. Suspended sediment yields due to a urban development activities were raised almost 10 times compare to undisturbed condition for small runoff less than 1 cms. Meanwhile, no big change could be detected for bed loads.
In this study, the probability density functions (PDFs) of the rainfall generated by PRPM(Poisson Rectangular Pulse Model) and the runoff simulated by SLRM(Single Linear Reservoir Model) and Nash model, were compared to find out the changes of runoff characteristics due to the change of rainfall characteristics. Effect of rainfall frequency, Intensity, and duration on runoff were evaluated using the PDFs derived. Two basin, small and midium-sized ones, were also selected to find out the effect of basin size. As the results, we found that the arrival time, the intensity, and the duration of rainfall differently influence the runoff characteristics, which could be applied to evaluate the effect of climate change.

The estuary reservoir is a major source of agricultural water in Korea; for effective and sustainable water resource management of the estuary reservoir, it is crucial to comprehensively consider various water resource factors, including water supply, flood, and pollutant management, and analyze future runoff changes in consideration of environmental changes such as climate change. The objective of this study is to estimate the impact of future climate change on the runoff characteristics of an estuary reservoir watershed. Climate data on future Shared Socioeconomic Pathway (SSP) scenarios were derived from two Global Climate Models (GCMs) of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP6). The Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran (HSPF) was used to simulate past and future long-term runoff of the Ganwol estuary reservoir watershed. The findings showed that as the impact of climate change intensified, the average annual runoff in the future period was higher in the order of SSP5, SSP3, SSP1, and SSP2, and the ratio of runoff in July decreased while the ratio of runoff in October increased. Moreover, in terms of river flow regime, the SSP2 scenario was found to be the most advantageous and the SSP3 scenario was the most disadvantageous. The findings of this study can be used as basic data for developing sustainable water resource management plans and can be applied to estuary reservoir models to predict future environmental changes in estuary reservoirs.
Climate change has significantly affected the rainfall characteristics which can influence the pollutant build-up and wash-off patterns from the catchment. Therefore, this study explored the influence of varying rainfall characteristics on urban and agricultural runoff pollutant export using statistical approaches. For this purpose, Mann-Kendall and Pettitt's test were applied to detect the trend and breakpoint in rainfall characteristics time series. In addition, double mass curve and correlation analysis were used to drive the relationship between rainfall-runoff and pollutant exports from both catchments. The results indicate a significant decreased in total rainfall and average rainfall intensity, while a significant increased trend for antecedents dry days and total storm duration over the study periods. The breakpoint was determined to be 2013 which shows remarkable trend shifts for total rainfall, average rainfall intensity and antecedents dry days except total duration. Double mass curve exhibited a straight line with significant rainfall-runoff relationship indicates a climate change effect on both sites. Overall, higher pollutant exports were observed at both sites during the baseline period as compared to change periods. In agricultural site, most of the pollutants exhibited significant (p< 0.05) association with total rainfall, average rainfall intensity and total storm duration. In contrast, pollutants from urban site significantly correlated with antecedent dry days and average rainfall intensity. Thus, total rainfall, average rainfall intensity and total duration were the significant factors for the agricultural catchment while, antecedents dry days and average rainfall intensity were key factors in build-up and wash-off from the urban catchment.
For the long-term strategic water resources planning, forecasting the future streamflow change is important to meet the demand of a growing society. The streamflow variation to the decade-long precipitation was investigated for the two major stage gauging stations in Korea. Precipitation and runoff characteristics have been analyzed at Yongwol stream stage in the Han River as well as Sutong stream stage in the Kum River for the future water resources management strategies. Monte Carlo method has been applied to estimate the future precipitation and runoff. Based on the trend line of 10-year moving average of runoff depth for the historical runoff records, the relation between runoff and the time variation was examined in more detail using regression analysis. This study showed that the surface flows have been significantly decreased while precipitation has been stable in these basins. Decreasing in runoff reflects the regional watershed characteristics such as forest cover changes. The findings of this study could contribute to the planning and development for the efficient water resources utilization.

For a given watershed that consists of urbanized areas, it was essential to predict how the runoff characteristics, such as runoff peak and volume, and travel time, change with time far planning and designing various kinds of hydraulic facilities with given recurrence interval. In this study, Mushim stream watershed was simulated using HEC-HMS model to get runoff characteristics of an urbanization basin. The results was showed that runoff was increased $1794.20{\sim}2104.65\;m^{3}/s$> and $1751.90{\sim}1961.30\;m^{3}/s$ according to the increased of rainfall and CN value recurrence interval in years. Observed storm was increased $497.91{\sim}581.71\;m^{3}/s$ and $506.57{\sim}537.01\;m^{3}/s$ for increased of CN value and impervious area. This paper is also possible to evaluate the effect of urbanization quantitatively.
The changes of rainfall pattern and impervious covers have increased disaster risks in urbanized areas. Impervious covers such as roads and building roofs have been dramatically increased. So, it is falling the ability safety of flood defense equipments to exist. Runoff coefficient means ratio of runoff by whole rainfall which is able to directly contribute at surface runoff during rainfall event. The application of accurate runoff coefficients is very important in sewer pipelines design. This study has been performed to estimate runoff characteristics change which are applicable to the process of sewer pipelines design or various public facilities design. It has used the SHER model, a long-term runoff model, to analyze the impact of a rising impervious covers on runoff coefficient change. It thus analyzed the long-term runoff to analyze rainfall basins extraction. Consequently, it was found that impervious surfaces could be a important factor for urban flood control. We could suggest the application of accurate runoff coefficients in accordance to the land Impervious covers. The average increase rates of runoff coefficients increased 0.011 for 1% increase of impervious covers. By having the application of the results, we could improve plans for facilities design.

Recently, climate change causes climatic anomaly such as global warming, the typhoon and severe rain storm etc. and it brings damage frequently. Climate change and global warming are prevalent all over the world in this century and many researchers including hydrologists have studied on the climate change. In this study, Seonakdong river watershed in the Nakdong river basin was selected as a study area. Real-time monitoring system was used to draw the rating curves, which has 0.78 to 0.96 of $R^2$. To predict runoff change in Seonakdong river watershed caused by climate change, the change in hydrologic runoff were predicted using the watershed model, SWAT. As a result, the runoff from the Seonakdong river watershed was increased by up to 45 % in summer. Because of the non-point sources from the farmland and the urban area, the water quality will be affected by the climate change. In this study, the operating plan of the water gates in Seonakdong river will be suggested by considering the characteristics of the watershed runoff due to the climate change. The optimal watergate opening plan will solve the water pollution problems in the reservoir-like river.

Estimation of groundwater hydrologic cycle pattern is one of the most critical issues in sustainable management of groundwater resources in coastal area. This study estimated groundwater percolation by using the water balance methodology and hydrogeological characteristics of land use and soil. Evapotranspiration was computed by using the Thornthwaite method, and surface runoff was determined by using the SCS-CN technique. Groundwater storage change was obtained as 229 mm/a (17.8% of the average annual rainfall, 1286 mm/a), with 693 mm/a (60.1%) of evapotranspiration and 124 mm/a (9.6%) of surface runoff. Rainfall and groundwater storage change was highly correlated, comparing with the relationships between rainfall and evapotranspiration, and between rainfall and surface runoff. This result indicates that groundwater storage change responds more sensitively to precipitation than evapotranspiration and surface runoff.
This study was conducted to investigate the hydrological characteristics of groundwater level change and rainfall-runoff processes at the Moojechi Bog located in Mt. Jeungjok, Ulsan. The average runoff rate of bog was 0.58 which is similar to that of general mountainous watershed. In the short term hydrograph, runoff was increased slowly and It took a long time to arrive peak flow. After that time, the decreasing pattern of runoff was slower than that of general mountainous watershed. In case of the long term water budget, the Moojechi Bog had a abundant base flow and runoff was continued in spite of non rainfall period. The groundwater level was arrived peak flow immediately after rain stop but was decreased very slowly until the next rain. The change pattern of long term groundwater level was very similar to that of the amount of rain and discharge. The higher rainfall intensity was, the lower slope of recession curve on the groundwater level was and the longer rainfall duration was, the longer peak flow was. Judging from these results, Moojechi bog could be evaluated to have a constant groundwater level.
