  • This paper provides a short description of the COMPASS-model which is a concept for the simulation of multiway systems. The focus of the COMPASS-model is to offer an opportunity to investigate the effects of redistribution strategies on logistic and monetary values in a system of returnable transport items (RTI). The modeling concept consists of five modules: topology, system load, distribution, redistribution, cost. It includes the integration of highly sophisticated evolutionary algorithms for the optimal solving of complex capacitated vehicle routing problems (CVRP) which are typical for RTI-systems. The results of first experiments with a COMPASS-based prototype are repeated. They reveal some basic regularities in RTI-systems.

Inelastic two-degree-of-freedom model for roof frame under airblast loading

  • When a roof frame is subjected to the airblast loading, the conventional way to analyze the damage of the frame or design the frame is to use single degree of freedom (SDOF) model. Although a roof frame consists of beams and girders, a typical SDOF analysis can be conducted only separately for each component. Thus, the rigid body motion of beams by deflections of supporting girders can not be easily considered. Neglecting the beam-girder interaction in the SDOF analysis may cause serious inaccuracies in the response values in both Pressure-Impulse curve (P-I) and Charge Weight-Standoff Diagrams (CWSD). In this paper, an inelastic two degrees of freedom (TDOF) model is developed, based on force equilibrium equations, to consider beam-girder interaction, and to assess if the modified SDOF analysis can be a reasonable design approach.

노인주택 면적계획을 위한 요소로서 행위면적 산출 연구 (A Study on the Calculation of the Area for Behavior as an Element in Planning the Floor Space of the Elderly Housing)

  • The purpose of the study is to suggest the amount of space for each behavior according to the classification of behavior in the housing to plan the optimal floor space of the elderly housing. The method for calculating space for behavior begins with classifying behaviors, identifying them and then taking pictures of the model of elderly people who reproduce each behavior. Based on the pictures, body parts which are necessary for each behavior are assembled and the formula for behavioral space is created. The space for behavior is produced considering the body dimensions of Korean elderly in their sixty's as well as the furniture size and the psychological distance between people. 3D modeling is used to verify the result. Human behaviors can be classified into individual-related, housework-related, family-related, reception-related and other behaviors. These five behaviors are subdivided into more specific behaviors. The area for each specific behavior is calculated with the anthropometric data of the elderly, preferred furniture dimension and psychological area. As a result the required area for specific behaviors is as follows: the behavior of sleeping in a bed needs $4.3m^2$; the behavior of changing clothes on a chair, $1.7m^2$; the behavior of watching TV on the floor $1.3m^2$, the behavior of working and reading using a desk, $2.1m^2$, the behavior of exercise, $2.5m^2$; the behavior of showering on a chair, $1.3m^2$ and showering using a wheelchair, $1.9m^2$; the behavior of toileting using a wheelchair, $2.3m^2$; the behavior of washing up using a wheelchair, $1.9m^2$; the behavior of eating using a table for four persons, $4.4m^2$; the behavior of cooking and washing dishes, $0.9m^2$ per counter-top; the behavior of washing clothes using a washing machine, $0.9m^2$; the behavior of ironing on the floor $1.4m^2$; the behavior of reception(three persons) on the floor considering personal space, $4.0m^2$; the behavior of taking on and off shoes on a chair, $1.3m^2$. The result of the study is utilized as quantitative data to calculate optimal floor space for elderly housing. In addition, qualitative data such as characteristics of housing preference, spacial usage and storage capacity are necessary to produce the floor space which can provide convenient and safe living environment.

생활특성과 착의량에 따른 바닥복사난방 공간의 열쾌적 범위 및 에너지 사용량에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Thermal Comfort Zone and Energy Use of Radiant Floor Heating by Residential Style and Clothing Level)

  • 바닥복사난방 공간에서 생활특성과 착의량에 따른 열쾌적 범위를 제시하고 각 조건별 에너지사용량 및 비용을 산출하여 비교하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 좌식생활이 입식생활보다 낮은 온도에서 중립적 온도를 나타냈는데 바닥표면과 인체사이의 국부적인 열전달이 전신온열감에 영향을 주었기 때문으로 판단된다. 착의량이 높을수록 낮은 온도에서 중립점 온도를 나타냈는데 착의량을 증가시키면 인체에서 방출되는 열손실이 감소하여 낮은 실내온도에서 동일한 열쾌적을 느낄 수 있기 때문으로 판단된다. 좌식생활방식이 입식생활방식보다 평균 6.0%의 에너지 사용량이 절감되는 것으로 나타나 좌식생활이 경제적인 생활방식으로 분석되었다. 착의량 1.2 Clo 상태가 착의량 1.0 Clo 상태보다 평균 13.5%, 착의량 0.8 Clo상태보다 평균 18.0%의 에너지 사용량이 절감되는 것으로 나타나 동절기에 착의량을 증가시키는 생활습관의 변화만으로도 에너지 절감 효과가 큰 것으로 분석되었다.

Techno-economic assessment of a very small modular reactor (vSMR): A case study for the LINE city in Saudi Arabia

  • Recently, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced the development of first-of-a-kind(FOAK) and most advanced futuristic vertical city and named as 'The LINE'. The project will have zero carbon dioxide emissions and will be powered by clean energy sources. Therefore, a study was designed to understand which clean energy sources might be a better choice. Because of its nearly carbon-free footprint, nuclear energy may be a good choice. Nowadays, the development of very small modular reactors (vSMRs) is gaining attention due to many salient features such as cost efficiency and zero carbon emissions. These reactors are one step down to actual small modular reactors (SMRs) in terms of power and size. SMRs typically have a power range of 20 MWe to 300 MWe, while vSMRs have a power range of 1-20 MWe. Therefore, a study was conducted to discuss different vSMRs in terms of design, technology types, safety features, capabilities, potential, and economics. After conducting the comparative test and analysis, the fuel cycle modeling of optimal and suitable reactor was calculated. Furthermore, the levelized unit cost of electricity for each reactor was compared to determine the most suitable vSMR, which is then compared other generation SMRs to evaluate the cost variations per MWe in terms of size and operation. The main objective of the research was to identify the most cost effective and simple vSMR that can be easily installed and deployed.

궤도보수 특수철도차량 탬퍼 모의훈련연습기의 개념설계 (A Conceptual Design on Training Simulator of the Special Railway Vehicle for Multiple Tie Tamper)

  • 궤도보수용 특수철도차량은 열차 운행동안 철도차량의 진동저감 및 승차감 향상을 위하여 다양한 궤도틀림을 조정하는 탬핑장치를 장착한다. 궤도틀림의 선형화 작업에 대한 인적 오류를 감소하기 위하여 실제 탬핑작업의 착오를 바로 확인할 수 있는 모의 훈련연습기의 개발이 중요하다. 기존 2차원 시뮬레이터의 현실성 및 훈련효과를 높이기 위하여 본 연구에서는 가상현실 공간상에서 본 특수철도차량의 탬핑작업에 대하여 3차원 시뮬레이터 모델링을 구현하였다. 탬핑작업동안 고화질화면 작동 시 발생되는 버퍼링 문제는 고화질 다각형 모델링에서 추출한 로우 다각형의 Unwrap UVW 매핑기법을 사용하여 해결하였다. 탬핑작업의 훈련시 발생하는 인적오류는 침목과 탬핑유니트의 탬핑타인 충돌 유무를 원과 사각형 충돌원리로 감지된다. 또한 충돌과 동시에 작업운전실 의자의 진동이 발생되며, 모의연습기 화면에 침목 타격수량이 현시되므로 훈련생의 숙달정도까지 인지하도록 제작되었다. 그리고 침목위에 튀어 오른 자갈은 차량주행 안전성 심각한 영향을 미치므로 탬핑유니트에 자갈 튀는 효과를 적용하였다.
