  • A multiscale finite element method is applied to the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model based detached-eddy simulation (DES). The multiscale arises from a decomposition of the scalar field into coarse (resolved) and fine (unresolved) scales. It corrects the lack of stability of the standard Galerkin formulation by modeling the scales that cannot be resolved by a given spatial discretization. The stabilization terms appear naturally and the resulting formulation provides effective stabilization in turbulent computations, where reaction-dominated effects strongly influence near-wall predictions. The multiscale DES is applied in the context of high-Reynolds flow over the Commonwealth Advisory Aeronautical Council (CAARC) standard tall building model, for both uniform and turbulent inflows. Time-averaged pressure coefficients on the exterior walls are compared with experiments and it is demonstrated that DES is able to resolve the turbulent features of the flow and accurately predict the surface pressure distributions under atmospheric boundary layer flows.

  • This paper attempts to find out the development of designs of chairs in interiors. It will discussed by dividing into two periods; the pre-world war I, and the post-world war I up to date. In the first part it will concentrate on four types of design materjals; plywood, metal, solid wood, and plastic chairs. In the second part it will deal with only two materials; Metal and solid wood. Under each material one designer and manufacturer, the country where the designer worked, and related dates. It will discuss how the design materiai was exploited by each designer within its potentials including how chair was made, what design elements could do, whether he used the potentials, and the potentials were fully exploited. And it discusses the success of the chair design material as shown in the interiors or failure of the chair design material. Fainally under each material one picture of chairs, one or two pictures for the chairs in the interiors, of the chairs will be provided. A bibliography will be attached to the end of the paper.

  • Haptic-aided design (HAD) involves the use of a haptic simulator in place of physical prototypes in the design and development of products with which human beings interact physically. The development time and cost can be significantly reduced by adopting this HAD scheme. Although both physical and emotional factors are equally important, only the emotional factors were taken into consideration in the previous HAD process. Consequently, the design of the products was sometimes unsatisfactory from the viewpoint of ergonomics, even though users were emotionally satisfied with the products. To overcome this problem, in this study, we propose a new human-oriented design methodology that is enhanced by taking the physical factors into consideration. The HAD scheme was verified by using a haptic chair simulator to design a tilt mechanism of an office chair for which the stiffness of the backrest can be adjusted; then, the design was simulated using MADYMO. The results show that the proposed method can reflect both the physical and emotional factors to modify the design in real-time.

  • We are currently in the process of reform toward the digital era as information technology constantly advances, and to cope with the change, each industry provides products including furniture that rapidly evolves accordingly. What this leaves us is new, various products on the market, which highlighted ability to rapidly adjust to the change as major competence. In the midst of this, the development field is focusing on producing goods with affordance, more distinct and intuitive design. Cases analyzed in this study show how affordance is applied not only to product designs but our daily lives, and thus, the importance and characteristics of affordance in the modern society. Based on findings, I regarded designs that lead to intuitive understanding of functions and even unconscious use of them the cases with properly applied affordance and presented chair designs.

  • This paper focuses on a network model for GCTs which can be used to investigate high power circuits with or without using RC-snubbers. The series connection of GCTs is commonly applied in the high power inverter field. Here expensive and space-consuming snubbers are applied, to overcome the problem of an asymmetric distribution of the blocking voltage among the single GCTs. As an alternative to large snubbers, a new active gate drive concept is proposed and investigated by simulation.

  • As an idea of healing or fatigue recovery, a desire for massage therapy has increased for modern people who complain of pain such as knotted muscles or shoulder discomfort due to fatigue accumulation and stress. To resolve this, although a massage chair has been developed, it does not provide the most efficient massage as it is not suitable for Korean body types. In this paper, this research analyzed massage, assembly, massage intensity, Korean body types and functions of the massage for maximized efficiency to design critical functions. Also, we implemented the action control and algorithm of the massage chair for localization.

  • In this paper, I designed the inverter pendulum controller to controll the position of a wheel-chair. I used coefficient diagram method (CDM) to design the controller. The CDM is available, because it can make an engineer know all about the characteristic, stability, response time and robustness, of closed loop system. Writing this paper, I simulated the controller to know wheather is can controll the position of wheel-chair using the theorem of inverter pandulum controll, and I identified the usefulness of it.
