Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has revolutionized genetics and become one of the most popular techniques in modern biological and medical sciences. It can be used not only as an in vitro DNA amplification method but also used in many bioassay applications. The PCR can be used to exponentially produce a large number of DNA copies from a small quantity of DNA molecules in a few hours. However, as unwanted DNA fragments are also often manufactured, the amplification efficiency of PCR is decreased. To overcome this limitation, several nanomaterials have been employed to increase the specificity of the PCR reaction. Recently, graphene has attracted a great interest for its excellent electron transfer, thermal and biocompatibility. Especially, gold nanoparticle-coated graphene oxide (GO/AuNPs) led to enhance electron and thermal transfer rate and low-charge transfer resistance. Therefore, we report the development of a demonstration for the PCR efficiency using a large-scale production of the GO and combination of gold nanoparticles. Because a thermal conductivity is an important factor for improving the PCR efficiency in different DNA polymerases and different size samples. When PCR use GO/AuNPs, the result of transmission electron microscopy and real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) showed an enhanced PCR efficiency. We have demonstrated that GO/AuNPs would be simply outperformed for enhancing the specificity and efficiency of DNA amplification procedure.
The present study was designed to characterize the bioaccumulation of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in marine organisms (zooplankton, oyster, crab, and goby) on different trophic level. In the present study, sedentary bivalve (oyster) showed strong correlations in OCPs levels with surface sediment in the study area. This indicates the two compartments can be used as alternative for pollution monitoring of OCPs even in narrow scale in space. Bioaccumulation and trophic transfer of OCPs was strongly associated with their hydrophobicity (i.e., KOW). HCHs with log KOW < 5 did not show any enrichment through food-chain. However, log BAF values of OCPs with log KOW > 5 positioned over the 1:1 lines of log BAF and log KOW of the top predator, indicating the greater fugacities in the higher trophic level and thus the occurrence of biomagnification via ingestion. Based on trophic transfer factors (TTF), more hydrophobic OCPs with log KOW > 5 were enriched by several to several ten times in the highest trophic level relative to the lowest trophic level. This finding can be used in the establishment of marine environmental water quality criteria by considering biomagnification factors (TTF in this study) of OCPs.

Steganography based on text generation has become a hot research topic in recent years. However, current text-generation methods which generate texts of normal style have either semantic or syntactic flaws. Note that texts of special genre, such as poem, have much simpler language model, less grammar rules, and lower demand for naturalness. Motivated by this observation, in this paper, we propose a text steganography that utilizes Markov chain model to generate Ci-poetry, a classic Chinese poem style. Since all Ci poems have fixed tone patterns, the generation process is to select proper words based on a chosen tone pattern. Markov chain model can obtain a state transfer matrix which simulates the language model of Ci-poetry by learning from a given corpus. To begin with an initial word, we can hide secret message when we use the state transfer matrix to choose a next word, and iterating until the end of the whole Ci poem. Extensive experiments are conducted and both machine and human evaluation results show that our method can generate Ci-poetry with higher naturalness than former researches and achieve competitive embedding rate.

Photochemical reactions of fluoro- vs. nonfluoro-substituted polymethylenoxy chain linked phthalimide were carried out to explore how electronegative fluorine atoms inside the donor chain influence photocyclization reaction efficiencies and to briefly determine the alkali metal binding properties of the photoproducts. The results of this study show that the fluorine-substituted donor chain linked phthalimide undergoes inefficient photocyclization via single electron transfer (SET)-induced excited state pathways to generate 14-membered cyclic amidol compared to nonfluoro-analog due to low electron donor ability of the terminal oxygen donor site. These results show that photoinduced intramolecular SET processes arising from ${\alpha}$-silyl ether electron donors to phthalimides are largely dependent on the kinds of substituents inside donor chain. Finally, a preliminary study with the cyclic amidols generated in this effort showed that they have weak alkali metal cation binding properties regardless of absence/presence of fluoro-substituents.
Much attention has been given to predict the near-field mass transfer of a single radioactive species from a waste solid into surrounding porous medium. But only limited considerations have been given to predict the coupled mass transfer of species with a radioactive decay chain. In this study we present an analysis assuming that the members of a decay chain dissolve congruently with a solubility-limited matrix. We give general, non-recursive analytic solutions for the transport of a radioactive decay chain in a finite porous medium when nuclides are released congruently with the matrix. As an illustration we consider the decay chain $^{234}$ Ulongrightarrow$^{230}$ Thlongrightarrow$^{226}$ Ra from spent fuel. These solutions may be useful and potentially important in performance assessment of radioactive waste repositories.

OPB(out-of-plane bending)-induced failure of mooring chain was firstly addressed by CALM (catenary anchor leg mooring)-type offloading buoy, located approximately one mile away from the bow of the Girassol FPSO which was installed offshore area of Angola in September 2001. This study deals with verifying the load transfer mechanism between the first free chain link and connected two chain links inside the chain hawse. OPB moment to angle variation relationships are proposed by extensive parametric study where the used design variables are static friction coefficients, proof test loads, nominal tension forces, chain link diameters, chain link grades and chain link types. The stress ranges due to OPB moments are obtained using nonlinear FEAs (finite element analyses). Final stress ranges are derived considering ones from IPT (in-plane tension) forces. Also a formula for OPB fatigue assessment is briefly introduced.

In this paper, complex quadruplet zeros of microwave filter systems are investigated. For the cascaded systems the chain matrices are most conveniently used to derive the voltage transfer function of Laplace transform with cascaded two-port subsystems. The convenient relations of transfer function and chain matrix are used in order to find the transmission zeros. Starting from a ladder network, we introduced a crossed-coupled lumped element, in order to show the improved response of bandpass filter. By solving the transmission zero characteristic equation derived from the cascaded subsystems, we found the zeros of filter system with externally cross-coupled lumped elements. With the cross-coupled elements of capacitors, the numerator polynomial of system transfer function is used to locate the quadruplet zeros in complex plane. When the two pairs of double are on the zeros -axis, with the perturbed values of element, we learned that the transition band of lowpass filter is improved. By solving the characteristic equation of cascaded transfer function, we can obtain the zeros of the cross-coupled filter system, as a result of perturbed values on lumped element.
High molecular weight(MW), 3-arm star poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) with a narrow MW distribution($M_n$=570,000 g/mol, PDI=1.36) was successfully synthesized by activators regenerated by electron transfer(ARGET) atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP). The polymerization was carried out with a trifunctional initiator/$CuBr_2$/N,N,N',N",N"-pentamethyldiethy lenetriamine(PMDETA) initiator/catalyst system in the presence of a tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate [$Sn(EH)_2$] reducing agent at $90^{\circ}C$. The concentration of the copper catalyst was as low as 30 ppm, and a high initiation efficiency of the initiating sites was obtained. The chain-end functionality of the high MW, 3-arm star PMMA was confirmed by a chain extension experiment with styrene via ARGET ATRP, using the same catalyst system.
This paper contributes by incorporating works addressing supply chain coordination and investing in setup reduction program. Consider a two-echelon, EOQ-like inventory system consisting of a supplier and a buyer. We assume that both the supplier and the buyer can invest in setup cost reduction programs in order to benefit from small order sizes. However, the costs of investing in setup cost reduction programs are different for the two parties, leading to mismatches in individually optimal setup costs and order cycle times. We propose a supply chain coordination contract that makes use of quantity discount as an incentive transfer scheme for supply chain coordination.
I develop a transfer matrix algorithm for computing the geometric quantities of a square lattice polymer with nearest-neighbor interactions. The radius of gyration, the end-to-end distance, and the monomer-to-end distance were computed as functions of the temperature. The computation time scales as ${\lesssim}1.8^N$ with a chain length N, in contrast to the explicit enumeration where the scaling is ${\sim}2.7^N$. Various techniques for reducing memory requirements are implemented.
