Preparation and Dielectric Characteristics of PTEE(Polytetrafluoroethyl one) Composites for Microwave Circuit Board (고주파용 회로기판을 위한 PTEE(Polytetrafluoroethylene) 복합체의 제조 및 유전 특성)

  • The PTFE composites for the microwave printed circuit board were prepared using woven glass fiber. The dielectric constant of the PTFE composites with oven glass fiber tended to decrease with an increase of immersion time, and was saturated at 3 times immersion. It resulted from the fact that fine powders of PTFE filled up at the pore and bend of woven glass fiber sufficiently. As the immersion time increased, the propagation velocity increased due to the reduction of dielectric constant.

  • The glass-SiC composites have been manufactured via viscous flow of glass for investigating their sinterability and various properties. The relative density of 99.6% could be achieved when 5 wt% SiC was mixed with glass powder, glass-rearranged at 460$^{\circ}C$ for 3 h and then sintered at 665$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The sintered density was decreased as adding more than 5 wt% SiC to glass powder. The resistance properties against hyper velocity copper jet formed by explosion of K215 warhead were compared with other ceramics such as $Al_2O_3$ and pyrex, resulting in lower values than that of $Al_2O_3$.

Redox Reaction of Multivalent Ions in Glass Melts

  • The redox reaction $M^{(x+n)+}+\frac{n}{2}O^{-2}{\rightleftarrows}M^{x+}+\frac{n}{4}O_2$ of multivalent ions in glass melts influences the melting process and final properties of the glass including the fining (removal of bubbles), infrared absorption and homogenization of melts, reaction between metal electrodes and melts or refractory and melts, and transmission and color of glass. In this review paper, the redox behaviors that occur frequently in the glass production process are introduced and the square wave voltammetry (SWV) is described in detail as an in situ method of examining the redox behavior of multivalent ions in the melt state. Finally, some voltammetry results for LCD glass melts are reviewed from the practical viewpoint of SWV.

  • The difference of plasma resistance between the CAS glass bulk and coating films were compared. Plasma resistance was confirmed by analyzing the etch rate and the microstructure of the surface when the CAS glass bulk and the glass coating film were etched with CF4/O2/Ar plasma gas. CAS glass coating film was etched up to 25 times faster than the glass bulk. A statistically high correlation between the surface roughness and the etching rate of the coating film was derived, and thus, the high surface roughness of the coating film was determined to cause rapid etching. In addition, cristobalite crystals that has a low Ca content and a high Si content, was foamed on the glass coating film. Therefore, the CAS glass coating film is considered to have low plasma resistance compared to the glass bulk.

A Study of Static Fatigue of Domestic Soda-Lime Glass (국산 Soda-석탄유리의 피노현상에 관한 연구)

  • The network structure of a glass is known to be cracked by a chemical reaction, diffusion, and ion exchange of alkali ion, formed at the crack tip of the glass surface, when water is present on the glass surface. Since the durability of glass is reduced, due to the fatigue phenomenon mentioned above, pollution problem of glass goods, especially bottle glass, is becoming acute gradually. A static fatigue phenomenon was studied thermodynamically in this paper, and a mechanism of static fatigue, a quality control, and a method of preventing pollution for the main local glass goods were also investigated. The PH of reacted solution and the quantity of extracted alkali were measured at different conditions such as temperature, reacting time, particle size of a crushed glass sample, and the nature of reacting solution. The enthalpy change was calculated from the Arrhenius equation. The results are given below; 1) The absolute value of enthalpy change for the bottle glass was found to be higher than the for the flat glass. 2) The fatigue phenomenon of a glass was more sensitive to the temperature than to the reacting time. 3) The durability of glass in acid solution is stronger than in alkaline solution. 4) The substance which cracks the network structure of glas is considered the hydroxyl ion.

Effect of Binder Glass Crystallization on Electrical Properties in $RuO_2$-Thick Film Resistor

  • In thick film resistors, the characteristics of the frit and the reaction between glass frit and conductor material play an important role for their electrical properties. In this study, various glass frits in the system of $60RO{\cdot}20SiO_2$ $15B_2O_3{\cdot}5Al_2O_3$(RO=PbO, ZnO, CdO; mole%) were mixed with $RuO_2$ and coated on 96% alumina substrate. Only the glass frit containing PbO was reacted with $RuO_2$in$RuO_{2+}$-thick film resistor and produced the new crystalline phase of $Pb_2Ru_2O_{65}$. Their electrical resistivities strongly depend on the amount of $Pb_2Ru_2O_{65}$ crystalline phase obtained, which varied with firing temperature. The sheet resistivities of these resistors were varied from $10^3\; to\; 10^6\;{\Omega}/{\Box}$ depending on heat treatment, and the absolute value of TCR was decreased as the heat treatment temperature increaed. However, $RuO_2$ did not reacted with the glass frits containing ZnO nor CdO, and the resulting showed very high sheet resistivities.
