  • The requirements for the successful treatment of all-ceramic restorations are not so different from the ones of conventional restorations. "The provisional restoration followed by an adequate tooth reduction" and "the accurately fitting prostheses with corresponding to final impression" can be the examples of them. Nevertheless, the one which all-ceramic restorations are distinguished from conventional restorations is the additional procedure of so called "bonding". In addition to the application of resin cement between "inner surface of restoration and outer surface of abutment", bonding technology can be also applied to the treatment process of "Post and Core" in particular if the abutments are non-vital teeth. Core build-up for all-ceramic crown is conducted with fiber post and tooth colored composite by considering the properties of the restorations transmitting light. I would like to share my clinical experience about "silica based ceramic and non silica based ceramic restoration.

  • Ceramic, PCD and CBN tools are available for the difficult-to-cut-materials such as hardened carbon tool steel, stainless steel, Inconel 718 and etc. Ceramic tools are likely to be chipped and abruptly broken before the appearance of normal wear in turning. Ceramic tools are suitable for continuous in turning, not for intermittent in milling. In this study, TiN/TiCN multi-layer coated ceramic tools were found to restrain the chipping, breaking and early fracture and to increase the critical cutting speed owing to TiN/TiCN multi-layer coating in Arc Ion Plating of PVD method.

  • In the fabrication of ceramic chip couples for high frequency application such as the mobile communication equipment the formation of electrode lines and Ag diffusion were investigated with heat treatment conditions for removing organic binders. The deformation and densification of the electrode line greatly depended on the binder burnout process due to the overlapped temperature zone near 400$^{\circ}C$ of the binder dissociation and the solid phase sintering of the silver electrode. Ag ions were diffused into the glass ceramic substrate. The Ag diffusion was led by the glassy phase containing Pb ions rather than by the crystalline phase containing Ca ions. The fact suggests that the Ag diffusion could be controlled by managing the composition of the glass ceramic substrate.

  • The photoelectrochemical properties of the reduced $TiO_2$ceramic electrodes are investigated varying the thickness of the electrodes and the amounts of $Sb_2O_3$ as dopant. As the thickness of the undoped. $TiO_2$ceramic electrode increases the photocurrent tends to decrease. However for the R-F sputtered $TiO_2$ thin film electrodes the photocurrent tends to increase to about 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ thick and then decreases with increasing thickness. For the $TiO_2$ ceramic electrodes doped with $Sb_2O_3$ the photocurrent decreases with inreasing the amounts of dopant and in the case of rapid cooling in air without reduction treatment the photocurrent shows lower value. Also visible light excitation is observed at 500~550(nm) wavelength for the $TiO_2$ ceramic electrodes doped with $Sb_2O_3$comparing wtih the $TiO_2$ ceramic electrodes (~420nm)

  • Metallurgical grade silicon was recovered from slurry waste for ingot sawing process by acid leaching and thermal treatment. SiC abrasive was removed by gravity concentration and centrifugation. Metal impurities were removed by the acid leaching using HF/HCl. The remaining SiC was separated by the thermal treatment at $1600^{\circ}C$ in an inert atmosphere by the difference in melting points. The purity of the obtained silicon was found to be around 99.7%.

  • The effects of $Al_2O_3$ on the crystallization behavior of glass compositions in the $Na_2O$-CaO-$SiO_2$ system were investigated by differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of $Al_2O_3$ content on the mechanical properties, density, phase formation, and microstructures of $Na_2O$-CaO-$P_2O_5$-$SiO_2$ glass ceramics were studied. The thermal parameters of each glass were studied by DTA. The density of the glass ceramic samples was measured by Archimedes' method. It was found that the glass-ceramic containing 2.0 molar percent $Al_2O_3$ had desirable sintering behavior and reached an acceptable density. Phase investigation and micro-structural analysis were performed by XRD and SEM, respectively.

  • Anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) treatment has been widely studied in recent years because of the potential for production of bio-energy from wastewater and energy-positive operation of wastewater treatment plants. Several AnMBR systems, including those that incorporate ceramic membranes, take advantage of enhanced water permeability and low membrane fouling potentials. Given that differences in the ceramic membranes may influence the results of AnMBR studies, relevant details are discussed in this review, which focuses on the profiles of common ceramic membranes used in AnMBR, treatment and filtration performances of different anaerobic ceramic membrane bioreactors (AnCMBRs), and the membrane fouling mitigation methods available for effective AnCMBRs operation. The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive summary of AnCMBR performance, feed wastewater characteristics, operating conditions, and the methods available for effective fouling mitigation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility on recycling of IPS Empress ceramic for the wide use of esthetically pleased IPS-Empress ceramic in clinical prosthodontic treatment. The specimens were made of first, second, and third pressed IPS Empress ceramic and were immersed in 0.05% methylene blue solution for 24hours. The amount of color change before and after stain-ning was measured with colorimeter(Model Tc-6Fx, Denshoku Co., Tokyo, Japan). The change of ${\Delta}E$ in first pressed ceramic was 18.33 and those in second and third pressed ceramics were 19.33 and 19.93 respectively. Although there was statistical difference among them, the differences were minute and acceptable. From the results of this study, the possibility of recycling of IPS Empress ceramic could be suggested.

  • It is known that Si$_3$N$_4$ceramic insert has less hardness than A1$_2$O$_3$ceramic insert. But Si$_3$N$_4$ceramic insert has not only high toughness and strength but also low thermal expansion coefficient, which makes it has longer tool life under thermal stress condition. In this study, commercial Si$_3$N$_4$ ceramic insert and home-made SiC-Si$_3$N$_4$ceramic insert which has different sintering time and chemical composition is tested under various cutting conditions. The experimental result is compared in terms of tool life and cutting force. Generally, As the cutting speed and the feed rate increased, the cutting force and the flank wear increased too. The performance of SiC-Si$_3$N$_4$ceramic insert shows the possibility to be a new ceramic tool.

  • In this study, we fabricated tubular ceramic support for segmented-in-series solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) by using MAO(MgAl-stabilized ) as main material and activated carbon as pore former. Thermal expansion properties of ceramic support with different amounts of activated carbon were analyzed by using dilatometer to decide a suitable sintering temperature. The tubular ceramic supports with different amounts of activated carbon (15, 20, 30wt.%) were fabricated by the extrusion technique. After sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 2h, cross section and surface morphology of tubular ceramic support were analyzed by using SEM image. Also, the porosity, mechanical property, gas permeability of tubular ceramic supports was measured. Based on these results, we established the suitable fabrication technique of tubular ceramic support for segmented-in-series SOFC.
