Continuous SiC fiber-reinforced SiC composites ($SiC_f$/SiC) were fabricated by electrophoretic deposition (EPD). Nine types of slurries with different powder contents, binder resin amounts and slurry pH were deposited on Tyranno$^{TM}$-SA fabrics by EPD at 135 V for ten minutes to determine the optimal conditions. Further EPD using the optimum slurry conditions was performed on fabrics with four different pyrolitic carbon (PyC) thicknesses. The density of the hot-pressed composites decreased with increasing PyC thickness due to the difficulty of infiltrating the slurry into the narrow gaps between the fibers. On the other hand, the mechanical strength increased with increasing PyC thickness despite the decrease in density, which was explained by the enhanced crack deflection with increasing PyC thickness. The $SiC_f$/SiC composites showed the highest density and flexural strength of 94% and 342 MPa, respectively, showing EPD as a feasible method for dense $SiC_f$/SiC fabrication.
2D SiC fiber-SiC (SiC/SiC) composites were fabricated via slurry infiltration and a stacking process. The effects of the additive composition and content in SiC slurries and the effect of the sintering time on the sintered density and strength of SiC/SiC composites were investigated. A slurry containing $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3-MgO$ (AYM) additives led to a higher strength compared to a slurry containing $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3-CaO$ (AYC) additives. The sintered density increased as the sintering time increased and showed a maximum (>98%) at 4 h. In contrast, the flexural strength increased as the sintering time increased and showed a maximum (615 MPa) at 6 h. The relative density and flexural strength increased as the additive content increased.
Recently, the use of high-tech ceramic parts in functional electronic parts, automobile parts and semiconductor equipment parts is increasing. These ceramics materials are required to have high reproducibility, reliability, large size and complex shapes. The researchers initiated the work to develop a new shaping method called gel casting, which allows high performance ceramic materials with a complex shape to be produced. The manufacturing process parameters of gel casting include uniform mixing of the initiator, bubble removal, and slip injection. In this study, we analyzed the dispersion and gelation characteristics according to the change in the additive content of the alumina slurry in the gel casting process. The alumina slurry for gel casting was prepared by mixing a solvent, a monomer and a dispersant through a ball mill. Alumina powder and a gelation initiator were added to the mixed solution, and ball milling was performed for 24 hours. A viscosity of 6,435 cps and a stable zeta potential value were obtained under the conditions of alumina powder content of 55 vol% and dispersant 2.0 wt%. After curing for 12 hours by adding aps 0.1wt%, TEMED 0.2wt%, and Monomer 3, 5wt%, it was possible to separate from the molding cup, confirming that the gelation was completed.
In order to study the semi-conductive characteristics of carbon black-filled ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) composite film, which is used for measuring occlusal force, composite samples with volume ratios of carbon black to EPDM ranging from 30% to 70% were prepared. The process of making a composite film consists of two steps, which involve the preparation of a slurry composition and the fabrication of a thin film using solution casting and a lamination process. To prepare the slurry composition, we dispersed carbon black nanoparticles into an organic solvent before mixing with an EPDM solution in toluene. The mechanical and electrical properties of the resulting carbon black-filled EPDM film were then investigated, and the results showed that the electrical resistance of a film decreases with the increase in the carbon black content. Furthermore, improved elastic recovery was observed after cross-linking the EPDM.

ALC was fabricated using cement, lime and quartzite by hydrothermal reaction. The kind of quartzite was reviewed for ALC properties and returned slurry was recycled in this study. Munkyung and Kumpyung quartzite was used and quartzite powder was experimented. The major mineral phase of Munkyung quartzite was quartz and muscovite crystal but that of Kumpyung was quartz. It was certain that crystallinity of Kumpyung quartzite was superior to Munkyung quartzite. Compressive strength and A-number of ALC with Kumpyung quartzite was higher than that of ALC with Munkyung quartzite under similar specific gravity. These results was resulted from major mineral phase, crystallinity and minor components of quartzite.
An anode-supported SOFC single cell having $5{\mu}m$ thin electrolyte was fabricated cost-effectively by tape casting, laminating, and co-filing of anode (NiO-YSZ), cathode (LSM-YSZ), and electrolyte (YSZ) components. The optimal slurry compositions of the green tapes for SOFC components were determined by an analysis of the mean diameter, the slurry viscosity, the tensile strength/strain of the green tapes, and their green microstructures. The single cells with a dense electrolyte and porous electrodes could be co-fired successfully at $1325\sim1350^{\circ}C$ by controlling the contents of pore former and the ratio of coarse YSZ and fine YSZ in the anode and the cathode. The single cell co-fired at $1350^{\circ}C$ showed $100.2mWcm^{-2}$ of maximum power density at $800^{\circ}C$ but it was impossible to apply it to operate at low temperature because of low performance and high ASR, which were attributed to formation of the secondary phases in the cathode and the interface between the electrolyte and the cathode.

Plate-shaped inorganic particles are coated onto a stainless steel substrate by the electrophoretic deposition of a precursor slurry which includes the inorganic particles of $Al_2O_3$ and polymer resin in mixed solvents to mimic the abalone shell structure, which is a composite of plate-shaped inorganic particles and organic interlayer binding materials with a layered orientation. The process parameters of the electrophoretic deposition include the voltage, coating time, and conductivity of the substrate. In addition, the suspension parameters are the particle size, concentration, viscosity, conductivity, and stability. We prepared an organic-inorganic composite coating with a high inorganic solid content by arraying the plate-shaped $Al_2O_3$ particles and electrophoretic resin via an electrophoretic deposition method. We analyzed the effect of the slurry composition and the electrophoretic deposition process parameters on the physical, mechanical and thermal properties of the coating layer, i.e., the thickness, density, particle orientation, Young's modulus and thermogravimetric analysis results.

In this study, a process is developed for 3D printing with alumina ($Al_2O_3$). First, a photocurable slurry made from nanoparticle $Al_2O_3$ powder is mixed with hexanediol diacrylate binder and phenylbis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl) phosphine oxide photoinitiator. The optimum solid content of $Al_2O_3$ is determined by measuring the rheological properties of the slurry. Then, green bodies of $Al_2O_3$ with different photoinitiator contents and UV exposure times are fabricated with a digital light processing (DLP) 3D printer. The dimensional accuracy of the printed $Al_2O_3$ green bodies and the number of defects are evaluated by carefully measuring the samples and imaging them with a scanning electron microscope. The optimum photoinitiator content and exposure time are 0.5 wt% and 0.8 s, respectively. These results show that $Al_2O_3$ products of various sizes and shapes can be fabricated by DLP 3D printing.
The aim of this study was to describe the NO$_3$ leaching in grassland ecosy-stems. Field study was performed in the southwestern district of Germany from 1991 to 1993. The study included 3 different slurry application, conventional slurry application, 50% reduced slurry application and without slurry application. On each plot were installed 3 ceramic cups at 120cm depth. Samples were collected twice a month and analysed for NO$_3$ colorimetrically using a Tecator Auto-Analyzer. Percolation was calculated as the difference between precipitation and potential evapotranspiration. The NO$_3$ concentration in soil water was remarkably variable during the year. The average NO$_3$ concentration during the experiment was the lowest (8.5mg/l) without slurry application and the highest with 240kg N/ha cattle slurry (25.3mg/l). the NO$_3$-N leached per year were respectively 29, 23, and 12kg/ha in case of 240, 120 and 0kg N/ha when cattle slurry was applied. The conventional feeding density of cattle husbandry in the district caused the NO$_3$ contamination in ground water. When the amount of cattle slurry applied was reduced to 50%, the NO$_3$ loading in ground water was reduced greatly. Therefore, the reduction policy of cattle slurry can positively contribute to the prevention of the NO$_3$-contamination in groundwater.
In this study, we proposed new forming process for a porous ceramic body with unique pore structure. h tubular-type porous NiO-YSZ body with radially aligned pore channels was prepared by freeze-drying of aqueous slurry. A NiO-YSZ slurry was poured into the mold, which was designed to control the crystallization direction of the ice, followed by freezing. Thereafter the ice was sublimated at a reduced pressure. SEM observations revealed that the NiO-YSZ porous body showed aligned large pore channels parallel to the ice growth direction, and fine pores are formed around the outer surface of the tube. It was considered that the difference in the ice growth rate during the freezing process resulted in such a characteristic microstructure. Bilayer consisting of dense thin electrolyte film of YSZ onto the tubular type porous body has been successfully fabricated using a slurry-coating process followed by co-firing. It was regarded that the obtained bilayer structure is suitable for constructing electrode-support type electrochemical devices such as solid oxide fuel cells.
