The purpose of this study was to evaluate marginal fit of four all-ceramic crown systems 1) conventional In-Ceram, 2) copy-milled In-Ceram using Celay system, 3) IPS Empress, 4) OPC(Optimal Pressable Ceramic). All ceramic crowns were made on epoxy dies. The fabricated crowns were sandblasted, cleaned with ultrasonic cleansing, silanated, and cemented with Bistite composite resin cement. the selected marginal areas of the crowns were the labial, lingual, mesial, and distal surface. Each selected area of surface was $0.6{\times}1.6mm$ in dimension. The image of each marginal area was captured to computer files using DT-55 Frame Grabber and light microscope connected CCD camera. The marginal gaps were measured every $70{\mu}m$ using computer image analysis program. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. The marginal fit of four all-ceramic crowns were significantly different from each other(p<0.01), and mean marginal fit values obtained were $31.42{\pm}16.52{\mu}m$ in conventional In-Ceram, $55.45{\pm}27.90{\mu}m$ in copy-milled In-Ceram using Celay system, $44.36{\pm}24.59{\mu}m$ in IPS Empress, $47.21{\pm}20.42{\mu}m$ in OPC. 2. In the marginal fit of conventional In-Ceraw and copy-milled In-Ceram crowns using Celay system there was no significant difference between mesiodistal and buccolingual surface, but in the marginal fit of IPS Empress and OPC crowns, there was significant difference between mesiodistal and buccolingual surface(p<0.01). 3. The marginal fit of four kinds of all-ceramic crowns was clinically acceptable.
The purpose of this paper is the development of measurement algorithm for green-sheet based on the digital image processing technique. The Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic(LTCC) technology can be employed to produce multilayer circuits with the help of single tapes, which are used to apply conductive, dielectric and/or resistive pastes on. These single green-sheets must be laminated together and fired at the same time. Main function of the green-sheet film measurement algorithm is to measure the position and size of the punching hole in each single layer. The line scan camera coupled with motorized X-Y stage is used. In order to measure the entire film area using several scanning steps, an overlapping method is used.
Interpretation of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy images of defects and complex structures such as found in ceramics generally requires matching of the images with compound image simulations for reliable interpretation. A transmission electron microscopy study of the aluminum oxide was carried out at high-resolution, so that the crystal structure of the aluminum oxide could be modelled on an atomic level. In conjunction with computer simulation comparisons, the images reveal directly the atomic structure of the oxide. Results show that comparison between experimental high-resolution electron microscopy images and simulated images leads to a one to one correspondence of the image to the atomic model of the aluminum oxide. The aluminum atoms are disordered in the octahedral sites and the tetrahedral sites in the spinel aluminum oxide.
High-quality one-dimensional GaN nanorods and nanowires were synthesized on Ni-coated c-plan sapphire substrate using halide vapor-phase epitaxy (HVPE). Their structure and optical properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and photoluminescence techniques. Full substrate coverage of densely packed, uniform, straight and aligned one-dimensional GaN nanowires with a diameter of 80nm were grown at $700{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. The X-ray diffraction patterns, transmission electron microscopic image, and selective area electron diffraction patterns indicate that the one-dimensional GaN nanostructures are a pure single crystalline and preferentially oriented in the [001] direction. We observed high optical quality of GaN nanowires by photoluminescence analysis.
A small diameter of SiC fiber mat can produce much higher heat under microwave irradiation than the other types of SiC materials. Fabrication of high strength SiC fiber consists of iodine vapor curing on polycarbosilane precursor and heat treatment process. The curing stage of polycarbosilane fiber was maintained at $150-200^{\circ}C$ in a vacuum condition under the iodine vapor to fabricate a high thermal radiation SiC fiber. The structure and morphology of the fibers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In this study, the thermal properties of SiC fiber mats under microwave have been analyzed with an IR thermal camera and its image analyzer. The prepared SiC fiber mats radiated high temperature with extremely high heating rate up to $1100^{\circ}C$ in 30 seconds. The fabricated SiC fiber mats were not oxidized after the heat radiation process under the microwave irradiation.
The purpose of this paper is the development of measurement algorithm for green-sheet based on the digital image processing technique. The Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic (LTCC) technology can be defined as a way to produce multilayer circuits with the help of single tapes, which are used to apply conductive, dielectric and / or resistive pastes on. These single green-sheets have to be laminated together and fired in one step all. Main functionality of the green-sheet film measurement algorithm is to measure the position and size of the punching hole in each single layer. The line scan camera coupled with motorized X-Y stage is used for developing the algorithm. In order to measure the entire film area using several scanning steps, the overlapping method is used. In the process of development of the algorithm based on the image processing and analysis, strong background technology and know-how have been accumulated.
Over the past decade, the feasibility of using ink-jet printing for the decoration of porcelain tiles has been explored, and significant advances have been made regarding the technologies underlying printing system and materials. An ink-jet printing system for porcelain tiles has many advantages compared with a conventional printing system, including the following: (1) it is a digital process; (2) it uses non-contact printing; (3) it allows random image generation; (4) it is a highly efficient process (reduced production cost); (5) it offers massive and continuous production; and (6) it uses inorganic pigment colorants. For these reasons, ink-jet printing systems for porcelain tiles have been commercialized and are at present rapidly spreading toceramics-leading countries such as Spain, Italy, China and Japan. We also developed a proprietary system involving a piezo-electric drop-on-demand method and an ink-circulation step. The resolution of this system is greater than 360 dpi after a heat treatment and the maximum printable width is 600 mm, even when setting the printing head unit with four digital colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). In addition, we systematically developed ceramic colorant-containing inks and tile-printing technology applicable to our ink-jet printing system.
The 3D printing process provides a higher degree of freedom when designing ceramic parts than the conventional press forming process. However, the generation and growth of the microcracks induced during heat treatment is thought to be due to the occurrence of local tensile stress caused by the thermal decomposition of the binder inside the green body. In this study, an alumina columnar specimen, which is a representative ceramic material, is fabricated using the digital light process (DLP) 3D printing method. DTG analysis is performed to investigate the cause of the occurrence of microcracks by analyzing the debinding process in which microcracks are mainly generated. HDDA of epoxy acrylates, which is the main binder, rapidly debinded in the range of 200 to 500℃, and microcracks are observed because of real-time microscopic image observation. For mitigating the rapid debinding process of HDDA, other types of acrylates PETA, PUA, and MMA are added, and the effect of these additives on the debinding rate is investigated. By analyzing the DTG in the 25 to 300℃ region, it is confirmed that the PETA monomer and the PUA monomer can suppress the rapid decomposition rate of HDDA in this temperature range.
The subjective experience would degrade the current artificial artistic aesthetic analysis. Since Qiong kiln ceramics have a long history and occupy a very important position in ceramic arts, we employed computer-aided technologies to quickly automatically accurately and quantitatively process a large number of Qiong kiln ceramic images and generate the detailed statistical data. Because the color features are simple and significant visual characteristics, the color features of Qiong kiln ceramics are analyzed for the quantitative aesthetics. The Qiong kiln ceramic images are segmented with GrabCut algorithm. Three moments (1st-order, 2nd-order, and 3rd-order) are calculated in two typical color spaces, namely RGB and HSV. The discrimination powers of the color features are analyzed according to various dynasties (Tang Dynasty, Five Dynasties, Song Dynasty) and various utensils (Pot, kettle, bowl), which are helpful to the selection of the discriminant color features among various dynasties and utensils. This paper is helpful to promoting the quantitative aesthetic research of Qiong kiln ceramics and is also conducive to the research on the aesthetics of other ceramics.
In this study, the characteristics of Ultrasonic Transducer fabricated with PZT-Polymer 1-3 type piezoelectric ceramic/polymer composite are investigated. 3-D underwater object restoration using the self-made ultrasonic transducer and modified SCL(Simple Competitive Learning) neural network was presented. The ultrasonic transducer was satisfied with the required condition of commerical ultrasonic transducer in underwater. The modified SCL neural network using the acquired object data $16\times16$ low resolution image was used for object restoration of $32\times32$ high resolution image. The experimental results have shown that the ultrasonic transducer fabricated with PZT-Polymer 1-3 type piezoelectric ceramic/polymer composite could be applied for SONAR system.
