Topographical images, in case of aerial or satellite images, are usually similar in colors and textures, and complex in shapes. Thus we have to use shape features of images for efficiently retrieving a query image from topographical image databases. In this paper, we propose a shape feature extraction method which is suitable for topographical images. This method, which improves the existing projection in the Cartesian coordinates, performs the projection operation in the polar coordinates. This method extracts three attributes, namely the number of region pixels, the boundary pixel length of the region from the centroid, the number of alternations between region and background, along each angular direction of the polar coordinates. It extracts the features of complex shape objects which may have holes and disconnected regions. An advantage of our method is that it is invariant to rotation/scale/translation of images. Finally we show the advantages of our method through experiments by comparing it with CSS which is one of the most successful methods in the area of shape feature extraction

The Galactic center, Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), is the closest supermassive black hole and emits synchrotron radiation. It provides great opportunity to study the origin of mm/sub-mm emission. Currently, two competing models have been suggested as a jet base and a radiatively inecient accretion flow (RIAF). To unveil the properties, the extremely high resolution(${\sim}10{\mu}as$) corresponding to the projected Schwarzschild radius of ~0.1AU is necessary. With KVN, a jet model can be tested by multi- frequency simultaneous observations because the optically thick surface in a jet (i.e. radio core) moves toward the center at a higher frequency. We conducted 8 observations with KVN at 43/86GHz in 2015, and found that the measured positional shift to the reference calibrator, J1744-3116, was ~0.3 mas to the south of Sgr A* using the source frequency phase referencing (SFPR) at Q/W bands for the first time. With the result, in the future, we will attempt to measure the variation of source position shifts that can constrain the direction of approaching jets and the variability of black hole activity of Sgr A*.

In this paper, we develop the displacement measurement system of multiple moving objects based on image processing techniques. The image processing method adopts inertia moment theory for obtaining the centroid measurement of the targets and basic processing algorithm of gray, binary, closing, labeling and so on. To get precise displacement measurement in spite of multiple moving targets, a CGD camera with zoom is used and the position of camera is changed by a pan/tilt system. The fiducial marks on the fixed positions are used as the sensing points for the image processing to recognize the position errors in direction of XY-coordinates. The precise alignment device is pan/tilt of XY-type and the pan/tilt is controlled by DC servomotors which are driven by a microprocessor. Morover, the centers of fiducial marks are obtainted by an inertia moment method. By applying the developed precise position control system for multiple targets, the displacement of multiple moving targets are detected automatically and are also stored in the database system in a real time. By using database system and internet, the displacement datum can be confirmed at a great distance and analyzed. Finally, the effectiveness of developed system is shown in experimental results and realized the precision about 0.12[mm] in the position control of XY-coordinates.
There are various research works on the spatio-temporal drought analysis because spatio-temporal behaviors of drought are essential for understanding the development and migration patterns of drought events. This study quantified three-dimensional drought events using the 6-month Standard Precipitation Index (SPI6). A total of 45 drought events were found during the analysis period, and the migration patterns of drought event in South Korea were analyzed using the centers of drought events. In South Korea, more droughts were migrated frequently in the north/south direction than in the east/west direction. In addition, droughts moving eastward have decreased since 2000, while droughts moving northward have been found to be longer. The results of spatio-temporal drought analysis may be highly utilized for understanding drought development and migration patterns.
Three dimensional Monte-Carlo simulations of non-ergodic transport of a non-reactive solute plume by steady-state groundwater flow under a uniform mean velocity in isotropic heterogeneous aquifers were conducted. The log-normally distributed hydraulic conductivity, K(x), is modeled as a random field. Significant efforts are made to reduce the simulation uncertainties. Ensemble averages of the second spatial moments of the plume, $$lt;S_{ij}'(t',l')$gt;$ and plume centroid variances, $$lt;R_{ij}'(t',l')$gt;$ were simulated with 3200 Monte Carlo runs for three variances of log K, $\omega^2_y1.0,,2.5,$ and 5.0, and three dimensionless lengths of line plume sources ( l=,5 and 10) normal to the mean velocity. The simulated second spatial moment and the plume centroid variance in longitudinal direction fit well to the first order theoretical results while the simulated transverse moments are not fit well with the first order results. The first order theoretical results definitely underestimated the simulated transverse second spatial moments for the aquifers of large u: and small initial plume sources. The ergodic condition for the second spatial moments is far from reaching, and the first order theoretical results of the transverse second spatial moment of the ergodic plume slightly underestimated the simulated moments.
I present new near-infrared (NIR) photometry of globular cluster (GC) systems associated to a cD galaxy NGC 4874 in the core of the Coma cluster and 16 early-type galaxies in the Fornax and Virgo clusters of galaxies using the Infrared Channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3/IR) on board the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). Combining these high-resolution NIR data with new HST Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) optical photometry for NGC 4874 and existing ACS GC catalogs from the ACS Fornax and Virgo Cluster Surveys, I have examined for the first time the GC systems in a statistically significant optical/NIR sample of galaxies spanning a wide range of luminosities and colors. A primary goal of this study is to explore empirically whether the distributions of purely optical and hybrid optical - NIR color indices for extragalactic GCs have different forms and whether the relations between these color indices are nonlinear, indicating that they behave differently with underlying metallicity. I find that some GC systems of large galaxies in our sample show color bimodalities that differ between the optical and optical - NIR colors, in the sense that they have disparate ratios of "blue" and "red" peak GCs, as well as differing ratios in their color dispersions. Consistent with these results, I find empirically that the dependence of hybrid optical-NIR color on purely optical color is nonlinear, with an inflection at intermediate metallicities. These findings underscore the importance of understanding the nature of galaxy-to-galaxy variations in the GC color distributions and color-color relations, as well as the exact forms of the color-metallicity transformations, in interpreting the observational data on GC color bimodality. Our ACS data for NGC 4874 shows that its GC system exhibits a very strong blue tilt, implying a very steep mass-metallicity scaling, and the centroid of this GC system is offset by $4{\pm}1kpc$ from the luminosity center of NGC 4874, in the direction of NGC 4872. Finally, I discuss the asymmetrical GC distribution around a dwarf elliptical galaxy in Coma that has a very high relative velocity with respect to the cluster mean at small clustercentric radius.
Since the change in Doppler centroid according to moving targets brings alteration to the phase in azimuth differential signals of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data, one can measure the velocity of the moving targets using this effect. In this study, we will investigate theoretically measuring the velocity of an object from azimuth differential signals by using range compressed data which is the interim outcome of treatment from the simulated SAR raw data of moving targets on the background of sea clutter. Also, it will provide evaluation for the elements that affect the estimation error of velocity from a single SAR sensor. By making RADARSAT-1 simulated image as a specific case, the research includes comparisons for the means of velocity measurement classified by the directions of movement in the four following cases. 1. A case of a single target without currents, 2. A case of a single target with tidal currents of 0.5 m/s, 1 m/s, and 3 m/s, 3. A case of two targets on a same azimuth line moving in a same direction and velocity, 4. A case of a single target contiguous to land where radar backscatter is strong. As a result, when two moving targets exist in SAR image outside the range of approximately 256 pixels, the velocity of the object can be measured with high accuracy. However, when other moving targets exist in the range of approximately 128 pixels or when the target was contiguous to the land of strong backscatter coefficient (NRCS: normalized radar cross section), the estimated velocity was in error by 10% at the maximum. This is because in the process of assuming the target's location, an error occurs due to the differential signals affected by other scatterers.
Three dimensional Monte-Carlo simulations of non-ergodic transport of a lion-reactive solute plume by steady-state groundwater flow under a uniform mean velocity in isotropic heterogeneous aquifers were conducted. The log-normally distributed hydraulic conductivity, K(x), is modeled as a random field. Significant efforts are made to reduce tile simulation uncertainties. Ensemble averages of the second spatial moments of the plume and plume centroid variances were simulated with 1600 Monte Carlo runs for three variances of log K, ${\sigma}_Y^2=0.09,\;0.23$, and 0.46, and three dimensionless lengths of line plume sources normal to the mean velocity. The simulated second spatial moment and the plume centroid variance in longitudinal direction fit well to the first order theoretical results while the simulated transverse moments are generally larger than the first order results. The first order theoretical results significantly underestimated the simulated dimensionless transverse moments for the aquifers of large ${\sigma}_Y^2$ and large dimensionless time. The ergodic condition for the second spatial moments is far from reaching in all cases simulated, and transport In transverse directions may reach ergodic condition much slower than that in longitudinal direction. The evolution of the contaminant transported in a heterogeneous aquifer is not affected by the shape of the initial plume but affected mainly by the degree of the heterogeneity and the size of the initial plume.

In this paper, a series of algorithms are proposed for controlling different kinds of multimedia contents and realizing interact between human and computer by using single input device. Human gesture recognition based on NUI is presented firstly in my paper. Since the image information we get it from camera is not sensitive for further processing, we transform it to YCbCr color space, and then morphological processing algorithm is used to delete unuseful noise. Boundary Energy and depth information is extracted for hand detection. After we receive the image of hand detection, PCA algorithm is used to recognize hand posture, difference image and moment method are used to detect hand centroid and extract trajectory of hand movement. 8 direction codes are defined for quantifying gesture trajectory, so the symbol value will be affirmed. Furthermore, HMM algorithm is used for hand gesture recognition based on the symbol value. According to series of methods we presented, we can control multimedia contents by using human gesture recognition. Through large numbers of experiments, the algorithms we presented have satisfying performance, hand detection rate is up to 94.25%, gesture recognition rate exceed 92.6%, hand posture recognition rate can achieve 85.86%, and face detection rate is up to 89.58%. According to these experiment results, we can control many kinds of multimedia contents on computer effectively, such as video player, MP3, e-book and so on.
This study develops a technique training program to enhance the completion of Kolman, the high air flight technique, and applies it to two national athletes of the horizontal bar, one of the gymnastic events, for eight weeks. After that, their improvement was measured through 3D motion analysis to help them elevate their performance. The training program includes swing, hand release, twist, and bar hold, and its implementation produced the results stated below. They were made to practice the motion in the following way. After the hand-standing of giant swing which initiates the motion, they lift their body upward a little bit more. Next, they take their body down almost like a vertical descent and make a deep tap swing. Instead of doing the tap swing which widens the flection of hip and shoulder joints, while body revolution is more emphasized in particular, they release the bar as raising the centroid of their body sufficiently. During the flight, they try to narrow every joint in their body. As a result, the bar's elasticity becomes greatly increased, and since the backing rate of their body gets higher, the centripetal force of the swing is improved that they can release the bar in the higher position. In addition, because they can erect their body faster during the flight, they can perform comfortable twist and revolution in the air. They can also adjust the direction of the flight easily without too much concern for the proper timing of hand release as they rise. Thereby, they can not only maintain adequate distance from the bar for the bar hold but also ensure enough distance for body revolution and twist.
