The construction of foundation piles for buildings and bridges is changing from pile driving to an injected precast pile method. The goal is to minimize environmental damage, noise pollution, and complaints from neighboring residents. However, it is necessary to develop economic piles that are optimized for precasting by a centrifugal method in terms of both the material and structural system. A reinforced joint method is proposed for reinforced concrete piles (RC piles) manufactured by centrifugal casting. A previous study concluded that the structural performance of the current joint system for RC piles could be improved by using a reinforced joint composed of extended circular band plates and studs. In this study, the structural performance of such a joint was validated experimentally by bending and shear strength measurements. The proposed joint reinforcement method showed adequate structural performance in terms of bending and shear strength. The overall load-deflection behavior is close to that of a structure without joints, so it is expected that the behavior and performance of the design can be reliably reflected in site structures.

When a control algorithm is developed to protect automotive compressor surges, the simulation model typically selects an empirically determined look-up table. However, it is difficult for a control oriented empirical model to show surge characteristics of the super charger. In this study, a dynamic supercharger model is developed to predict the performance of a centrifugal compressor under dynamic load follow-up. The model is developed using Simulink$^{(R)}$ environment, and is composed of a compressor, throttle body, valves, and chamber. Greitzer's compressor model is used, and the geometric parameters are achieved by the actual supercharger. The simulation model is validated with experimental data. It is shown that compressor surge is effectively predicted by this dynamic compressor model under various operating conditions.

This paper presents a case history on failures of impeller and shaft due to pressure pulsation at single stage feed water pumps in 700 MW nuclear power plant during commissioning operation. The pumps had been service and had run for approximately $40{\sim}50$ hours. For the most part, the failures of impeller occurred with the presence of a number of fatigue cracks. All cracks were associated with the deleterious surface layer of impeller by visual and metallurgical examination. On-site testing and analytical approach was performed on the systems to diagnose the problem and develop a solution to reduce the effect of exciting sources. A major concern at high-energy centrifugal pump is the pressure pulsation created from trailing edge of the Impeller blade, flow separation and recirculation at centrifugal pumps of partial load. Pressure pulsation due to the interaction generating between impeller and casing coincided with natural frequencies of the impeller and shaft system during 1ow load operation. It was identified that dynamic stress exceeding the fatigue strength of the material at the thin shroud section due to the hydraulic instability at running condition below BEP.
To research and analyze the differential settlements of foundations specifically, site investigations of existing railways and metro were firstly carried out. Then, the centrifugal test was used to observe differential settlements in different position between foundations on the basis of investigation. The theoretical model was established according to the stress diffusion method and Fourier method to establish an analytical solution of embankment differential settlement between different foundations. Finally, theoretical values and experimental values were analyzed comparatively. The research results show that both in horizontal and vertical directions, evident differential settlement exists in a limited area on both sides of the vertical interface between different foundations. The foundation with larger elastic modulus can transfer more additional stress and cause relatively less settlement. Differential settlement value decreases as the distance to vertical interface decreases. In the vertical direction of foundation, mass differential settlement also exists on both sides of the vertical interface and foundation with larger elastic modulus can transfer more additional stress. With the increase of relative modulus of different foundations, foundation with lower elastic modulus has larger settlement. Meanwhile, differential settlement is more obvious. The main error sources in theoretical and experimental values include: (a) different load form; (b) foundation characteristics differences; (c) modulus conversion; (d) effect of soil internal friction.

Structural analyses of a turbine bladed-disk for a liquid rocket turbopump are peformed to investigate the safety level of strength and vibration at design point. Due to the high rotational speed of the turbopump, effects of centrifugal forces are carefully considered in the structural analysis. Thermal load caused by extreme temperature distribution is also considered as an external force applied to turbine bladed-disk. A three dimensional finite element method (FEM) is used for cyclic symmetry structural analyses with the MSC/NASTRAN DMAP Alter. Interblade phase angles are considered to investigate structural dynamic characteristics as a function of rotational speed. Through the numerical analysis, effects of centrifugal and thermal loads on the turbine bladed-disk are examined.

As recycled fine aggregate manufacturing technology with exceeding in economical efficiency, reduction efficiency of environmental load and quality improvement effect of recycled fine aggregate, it is to develop dry manufacturing system composed specific gravity separator of high-speed rotation impact type and centrifugal Force Powder Collector, etc. in this study. And it is to verify performance with evaluating quality of recycled fine aggregate. In consequence, it is identify that performance improvement effect of recycled fine aggregate by crushing recycled fine aggregate according to high-speed rotation impact, separating and collecting powder and minuteness dust according to centrifugal Force and mass defect, separating and reclaiming minuteness sand to mass defect.
Turbine blade is subject to force of three types ; the torsional force by torsional mount, the centrifugal force by the rotation of rotor and the cyclic bending force by steam pressure. The cyclic bending force was a main factor on fatigue strength. SEM fractography in root of turbine blade showed micro-clack width was not dependent on stress intensity factor range. Especially, fatigue did not exist on SEM photograph in root of turbine blade. To clear out the fracture mechanism of turbine blade, nanofractography was needed on 3-dimensional crack initiation and crack growth with high magnification. Fatigue striation partially existed on AFM photograph in root of turbine blade. Therefore, to find a fracture mechanism of the torsion-mounted blade in nuclear power plant, the relation between stress intensity factor range and surface roughness measured by AFM was estimated, and then the load amplitude ΔP applied to turbine blade was predicted exactly by root mean square roughness.

In this study, in order to apply ultra-high-strength concrete beams of 100 MPa or more manufactured by centrifugal molding as the superstructure of the avalanche tunnel, the purpose is to verify the structural safety of the corner rigid joint in which the centrifugal molded beam is integrated with the substructure, which is the negative moment area. A full-size specimen was manufactured, and loading tests and analysis studies were performed. In order to expect the same effect that the maximum moment occurs in the corner joint part of the upper slab end when the standard model of the avalanche tunnel is designed with a load combination according to the specification, a modified cantilever type structural model specimen was manufactured and the corner rigid joint was fixedly connected. A study was performed to determine the performance of the method and the optimal connection construction method. The test results demonstrated that the proposed connection system outperforms others. Despite having differences in joint connection construction type, stable flexural behavior was shown in all the tested specimens. The proposed method also outperformed the behavior of centrifugally formed beams and upper slabs. The behavior of the corner rigid joint analysis model according to the F.E. analysis showed slightly greater stiffness compared to the results of the experiment, but the overall behavior was almost similar. Therefore, there is no structural problem in the construction of the corner rigid joint between the centrifugally formed beam and the wall developed in this study.

This paper presents the dynamic analysis of indeterminate rotor systems with angular contact ball bearings subject to axial and radial loads. The reaction forces against applied radial loads significantly influence the dynamic characteristics of angular contact ball bearings. However, the reaction forces are hard to determine in the case of indeterminate rotor-bearing systems. To this end, this paper proposes a finite element model for indeterminate rotor systems with angular contact ball bearings. An improved bearing model is adopted which is originated from the Harris's bearing dynamic model. The bearing model is also extended to include centrifugal forces due to the ball and inner ring. This paper utilizes a new iterative algorithm for general, indeterminate rotor systems with angular contact ball bearings. This examples are provided to illustrate the dynamic characteristics of rotor systems with angular contact ball bearings subject to axial and radial loads. The experimental and numerical results prove that the proposed method is useful for the dynamic analysis of indeterminate rotor systems with angular contact ball bearings.

The aims of this study is to realize the structural design for development of a medium scale E-glass/epoxy composite wind turbine blade for a 750KW class horizontal axis wind turbine system. In this study, the various load cases specified by the IEC61400-1 international specification and GL Regulations for the wind energy conversion system were considered, and a specific composite structure configuration which can effectively endure various loads such as aerodynamic and centrifugal loads, loads due to accumulation of ice, hygro-thermal and mechanical loads was proposed. In order to evaluate the structure, the structural analysis for the composite wind turbine blade were peformed using tile finite element method(FEM). In the structural design, the acceptable blade structural configuration was determined through the parametric studies, and the most dominant design parameters were confirmed. In the stress analysis using the FEM, it was confirmed that the blade structure was safe and stable in any various load cases Moreover the safety of the blade root joint with insert bolts, newly devised in this study, was checked against the design fond and the fatigue.
