터보 압축기용 초고속 브러시리스 DC 전동기의 설계 (Design of High-Speed Brushless DC Motor for Turbo-Compressor)

  • Recently, high-speed centrifugal turbo-compressors have been under intensive research and development. Since, compared to conventional compressors, high-speed centrifugal compressors hive numerous qualities such as simple structure, light weight small size, and high efficiency, etc. In cope with such industrial demands, a high-speed brushless DC motor for a 50-kW, 70-krpm turbo-compressor was developed based on a 2-D analytical method, of which design was verified using the FE analysis. A prototype machine was also fabricated and tested to confirm the analytical design. Preliminarily obtained experimental data using the prototype mac]line shows the validity of the analytical approach.

  • A centrifugal compressor for HFC-134a has been newly designed and developed. Flow analysis using commercial programs was used to evaluate performance and internal flow of the impeller, inlet guide vane and diffuser etc. The purpose of this study is to establish the design theory necessary to the development of HFC-134a centrifugal compressors and to supply basic data related to design by reviewing design values and experimental values through the performance test. The compressor for HFC-134a was also investigated experimentally to check compression performance. The calculated data coincide the test results of compressor. The data obtained in the present study are useful for design of HFC-134a centrifugal compressors.

소형 원심 압축기의 성능 향상을 위한 베인 없는 디퓨저와 볼류트 케이싱의 설계에 관한 연구 (A study on the vaneless diffuser and volute casing design for the improvement of small centrifugal compressors)

  • 하수 처리용으로 사용되는 소형 원심 압축기의 베인 없는 디퓨져와 볼류트 케이싱의 성능 개선을 수행하였다. 기존의 두 모델은 임펠러가 동일하나, 베인 없는 디퓨져의 폭과 길이 및 볼류트 케이싱의 형상은 서로 다르다. 기존 모델에 대한 실험과 유동해석 결과를 바탕으로 베인 없는 디퓨져와 볼류트 케이싱의 설계를 변경하였다. 세 모델에 대한 연구 결과로부터, 볼류트 케이싱의 단면적 및 입구 반경 길이는 볼류트 혀와 베인 없는 디퓨져 및 임펠러와의 상호작용 강도에 영향을 주었고, 시스템 손실량에 변화를 나타내었다. 베인 없는 디퓨져 폭이 감소하면 임펠러의 효율은 증가했지만 디퓨져에서의 손실도 증가하였다. 결과적으로 개선된 모델의 효율이 설계 점에서 기존 대비 약 2.88%p 향상된 것이 유동해석 결과로 확인되었다.

  • Experimental and numerical investigations of the off·design performance of a simple channel-wedge diffuser in a small centrifugal compressor are presented. Surge and choke conditions as well as design point are considered using somewhat limited range of experimental data and also supplementary 3D CFD results. Some critical meanline design parameters' behavior is investigated numerically, to render the basis for improved modelings in the meanline performance prediction.

  • Flows through impellers of centrifugal compressors are calculated by a streamline curvature method. A method for the exit boundary condition is suggested in the present paper. Flow angles are assumed to be deviated from the blade angle parabolically. The maximum deviation is adjusted for the whole angular momentum to balance with the empirically estimated value by using Stanitz' slip-factor. The present method is verified to reasonably simulate flows through the impeller, when the 3-dimensionality of the flow is not strong. It is also shown that the method can be applied for the design of the splitter in the impeller.

원심압축기의 링 그루브 효과에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical Investigation of Ring Groove Effect in a Centrifugal Compressor)

  • This paper presents a numerical study of casing treatments on a centrifugal compressor stage to improve stability and the surge margin. High efficiency, a high pressure ratio, and a wide operating range are required for a high performance centrifugal compressor. In the present study, a ring groove arrangement was applied to the transonic centrifugal compressor. According to the numerical analysis using a commercial code ANSYS-CFX, the unstable phenomena limiting the range of the centrifugal compressors were compared with and without a ring groove. Although the ring groove decreased the efficiency, but increased the operating range by suppressing a flow separation at the leading-edge of the impeller especially near shroud part. Newly designed ring groove arrangement improved the compressor performance and increased the operating range of the compressor.

  • CFD techniques are widely used for the design and development of turbomachinery. The design and performance prediction, evaluation of performace and analysis are all important for the successful development of the machinery. The characteristics of the sturcture and performace of the centrifugal compressor are reviewed for the effective application of CFD techniques. The examples of flow calculations through an impeller and a channel diffuser are presented and phenomenological aspects are discussed. The future research topics of CFD area are also suggested.
