The class of “new better than used of a specified age” is a large and practical class of life distributions. Its properties, applicability, and testing was discussed by Hollander, Park and Proschan (1986). Their test, while remaining the yardstick for this class, suffers from weak efficiency and weak power, especially for specified ages below the average age. Thus, it is beneficial to have an alternative testing procedure that would work better for early ages and still work well for later ages. This is exactly the subject of the current note. The test developed here is also simpler than that of Hollander, et. al. (1986).
In the present work, an analytical solution for the static analysis of laminated composites, functionally graded and sandwich singly and doubly curved panels on the rectangular plan-form, subjected to uniformly distributed transverse loading is presented. Mathematical formulation is based on the higher order shear deformation theory and principle of virtual work is applied to derive the equations of equilibrium subjected to small deformation. A solution methodology based on the fast converging finite double Chebyshev series is used to solve the linear partial differential equations along with the simply supported boundary condition. The effect of span to thickness ratio, radius of curvature to span ratio, stacking sequence, power index are investigated. The accuracy of the solution is checked by the convergence study of non-dimensional central deflection and moments. Present results are compared with those available in the literature.

In this paper, a new extension of Lindley distribution has been introduced. Certain characterizations based on truncated moments, hazard and reverse hazard function, conditional expectation of the proposed distribution are presented. Besides, these characterizations, other statistical/mathematical properties of the proposed model are also discussed. The estimation of the parameters is performed through different classical methods of estimation. Bayes estimation is computed under gamma informative prior under the squared error loss function. The performances of all estimation methods are studied via Monte Carlo simulations in mean square error sense. The potential of the proposed model is analyzed through two data sets. A modified goodness-of-fit test using the Nikulin-Rao-Robson statistic test is investigated via two examples and is observed that the new extension might be used as an alternative lifetime model.

Music genre classification is an essential component for music information retrieval system. There are two important components to be considered for better genre classification, which are audio feature extraction and classifier. This paper incorporates two different kinds of features for genre classification, timbral texture and rhythmic content features. Timbral texture contains several spectral and Mel-frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC) features. Before choosing a timbral feature we explore which feature contributes less significant role on genre discrimination. This facilitates the reduction of feature dimension. For the timbral features up to the 4-th order central moments and the covariance components of mutual features are considered to improve the overall classification result. For the rhythmic content the features extracted from beat histogram are selected. In the paper Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) with bagging is used as classifier for classifying the genres. Based on the proposed feature sets and classifier, experiment is performed with well-known datasets: GTZAN databases with ten different music genres, respectively. The proposed method acquires the better classification accuracy than the existing approaches.
We apply Fourier-Legendre-based integration methods that had been given by Campbell in 2021, to evaluate new rational double hypergeometric sums involving ${\frac{{1}}{\pi}}$. Closed-form evaluations for dilogarithmic expressions are key to our proofs of these results. The single sums obtained from our double series are either inevaluable $_2F_1({\frac{4}{5}})$- or $_2F_1({\frac{1}{2}})$-series, or Ramanujan's 3F2(1)-series for the moments of the complete elliptic integral K. Furthermore, we make use of Ramanujan's finite sum identity for the aforementioned 3F2(1)-family to construct creative new proofs of Landau's asymptotic formula for the Landau constants.

In this paper we propose a new algorithm for detecting and counting flowers in a complex background based on digital images. The algorithm mainly includes the following parts: edge contour extraction of flowers, edge contour determination of overlapped flowers and flower counting. We use a contour detection technique in Computer Vision (CV) to extract the edge contours of flowers and propose an improved algorithm with a concave point detection technique to find accurate segmentation for overlapped flowers. In this process, we first use the polygon approximation to smooth edge contours and then adopt the second-order central moments to fit ellipse contours to determine whether edge contours overlap. To obtain accurate segmentation points, we calculate the curvature of each pixel point on the edge contours with an improved Curvature Scale Space (CSS) corner detector. Finally, we successively give three adaptive judgment criteria to detect and count flowers accurately and automatically. Both experimental results and the proposed evaluation indicators reveal that the proposed algorithm is more efficient for flower counting.

In this paper, we explore nonlinear sufficient dimension reduction (SDR) methods, with a primary focus on establishing a foundational framework that integrates various nonlinear SDR methods. We illustrate the generalized sliced inverse regression (GSIR) and the generalized sliced average variance estimation (GSAVE) which are fitted by the framework. Further, we delve into nonlinear extensions of inverse moments through the kernel trick, specifically examining the kernel sliced inverse regression (KSIR) and kernel canonical correlation analysis (KCCA), and explore their relationships within the established framework. We also briefly explain the nonlinear SDR for functional data. In addition, we present practical aspects such as algorithmic implementations. This paper concludes with remarks on the dimensionality problem of the target function class.
Cavities often develop behind the vault during the construction of double-arch tunnels, generally in the form of various defects. The study evaluates the impact of cavities behind the vault on the mechanical and failure behaviors of double-arch tunnels. Cavities of the same sizes are introduced at the vault and the shoulder close to the central wall of double-arch tunnels. Physical model tests are performed to investigate the liner stress variation, the earth pressure distribution and the process of progressive failure. Results reveal that the presence of cavities behind the liner causes the re-distribution of the earth pressure and induces stress concentration near the boundaries of cavities, which results in the bending moments in the liner inside the cavity to reverse sign from compression to tension. The liner near the invert becomes the weak region and stress concentration points are created in the outer fiber of the liner at the bottom of the sidewall and central wall. It is suggested that grouting into the foundation soils and backfilling injection should be carried out to ensure the tunnel safety. Changes in the location of cavities significantly impact the failure pattern of the liner close to the vault, e.g., cracks appear in the outer fiber of the liner inside the cavity when a cavity is located at the shoulder close to the central wall, which is different from the case that the cavity locates at the vault, whereas changes in the location of cavities have a little influence on the liner at the bottom of the double-arch tunnels.

Bending moments results from offset overloading of dental implant, which may cause stress concentrations to exceed the physiological capacity of cortical bone and lead to various kinds of mechanical failures. The purpose of this study was to compare the distributing pattern of stress on the finite element models with the different angulated placement of dental implant in mandibular posterior missing areas. The three kinds of finite element model, were designed according to 3 main configurations: Model 1(parallel typed placement of 2 fixtures), Model 2(15. distal angulated placement of one fixture on second molar area), Model 3(15. mesial angulated placement of one fixture on second molar area). The cemented crowns for mandibular first and second molars were made on the two fixtures (4mm 11.5). Three-dimensional finite element models by two fixtures were constructed with the components of the implant and surrounding bone. A 200N vertical static load were applied to the center of central fossa and the point 2mm apart from the center of central fossa on each model. The preprocessing, solving and postprocessing procedures were done by using FEM analysis software NISA/DISPLAY IV Version 10.0((Engineering Mechanics Research Corporation, USA). Von Mises stresses were evaluated and compared in the supporting bone, fixtures, and abutment. The results were as following : (1) Under the point loading at the central fossa, the direction of angulated fixture affected the stress pattern of implants. (2) Under the offset loading, the position of loading affected more on the stress concentration of implants compare to the angulated direction of implants. The results had a tendency to increase the stress on the supporting bone, fixture and screw under the offset loads when the placement angulation of implant fixture is placed toward mesial or distal direction. In designing of the occlusal scheme for angulated placement, placing the occlusal contacts axially during chewing appears to have advantages in a biomechanical viewpoint.

Tetrathiafulvalene(TTF) reacts with $PdCl_2,Pd(NO_3)_2$ and $Pd(hfacac)_2$(hexafluoroacetylacetonate) in ethanol to give $(TTF)_{1.5}PdCl_2$ (1a), $(TTF)_3Pd(NO_3)_2$ (1b) and $(TTF)_4Pd(hfacas)_2$ nd (1c), respectively. $PdCl(TCNQ)_{2.5}{\cdot}CH_3OH(2a)$was obtained from the reaction of $PdCl_2$ with LiTCNQ in methanol via the partial replacement of $Cl^-$ in $PdCl_2$ by $TCNQ^-$anion, whereas the total substitution of the labile $NO_3^-$ in $Pd(NO_3)_2$ yielded pd(TCNQ)·$CH_3OH$ (2b). $Pd(hfacac)_2(TCNQ)_2\cdot3CH_3OH$ (2c) was obtained from $Pd(hfacac)_2$ and LiTCNQ in methanol. The prepared compounds were characterized by spectroscopic (IR, UV, XPS) methods and magnetic (EPR, magnetic susceptibility) studies. The powdered electrical conductivities (${\sigma}_{rt}$) of the prepared compounds at room temperature were about~$10^{-7}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$. The effective magnetic moments were lass than the spin-only value of one unpaired electron and no EPR signals from Pd metal ions were observed in any of the compounds, indicating that the Pd ions were diamagnetic and the magnetic moments arose from$(TTF)_n$ or $(TCNQ)_n$ moieties. The experimental evidences revealed that the charge transfer had occurred form $(TTF)_n$ moiety to the central Pd metal ion in 1a, 1b and 1c. Thus the TTF donors were ions in 2a and 2b were diamagnetic Pd(II) oxidation state. In contrast, the Pd metal ion was oxidized to Pd(IV) state in 2c as a result of an addition of $TCNQ^-$anion to $Pd(hfacac)_2$ in methanol. The oxidation states of the Pd metal ions were confirmed using the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
