Antioxidative and Nitrite Scavenging Activities of Polygonatum odoratum Root Extracts with Different Steaming and Roasting Conditions (둥굴레 근경의 증자 및 볶음조건에 따른 추출물의 항산화성 및 아질산염 소거능 변화)

  • Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to monitor the effects of steaming and roasting conditions of Polygonatum odoratum roots an total phenolics content, electron donating ability (EDA) and nitrite-scavenging ability (NSA) of the extract. In steaming and roasting processes based on the central composite design. with variations in steaming time $(60\~180\;min)$, roasting temperature $(110\~150\;min)$ and roasting time $(10\~50\;min)$, coefficients of determinations $(R^2)$ were 0.9356 (p<0.01) in total phenolics, 0.9578 (p<0.01) in EDA and 0.9436 (p<0.01) in NSA (pH 3.0). The maximum value of total phenolics was $2847.67\;mg\%$ at 135.59 min of steaming time, $143.84^{\circ}C$ of roasting temperature and 43.47 min of roasting time. The maximum value of EDA was $75.00\%$ in 108.98 min, $135.56^{\circ}C$ and 48.86 min. The maximum value of NSA (pH 3.0) was $87.38\%$ in 162.80 min, $143.88^{\circ}C$ and 31.97 min, respectively. Total phenolics content of the extract was influenced by heating conditions in the order of roasting temperature, steaming time and roasting time. While EDA and NSA were appreciably influenced by roasting time, followed by roasting temperature and steaming time.

  • The aims of this study were to determine the optimal mixing condition for two different amounts of Gynura procumbens powder and olive oil for the preparation of beef sausage. The experiments were designed according to the central composite design of response surface methodology, which showed 10 experimental points including two replicates of Gynura procumbens powder and olive oil. The physicochemical and mechanical characteristics as well as the sensory properties were measured, and these values were applied to the mathematical optimization models. The results of the physiochemical and mechanical analysis of each sample, including chewiness, cohesiveness, color a, color b, moisture content, salinity and heating loss showed significant differences. The sensory measurements were significantly different in color, flavor, tenderness, texture and overall quality. The optimum formulation, which was calculated using the numerical and graphical method, was determined to be 2.1 g Gynura procumbens powder and 7.06 g of olive oil.

  • The ventilation in greenhouse have been important for such as adjustment of temperature, supplying of the oxygen, prevention of the overhumidity, density adjustment of $CO_2$, discharge of harmfulness gas, etc. However, the general ventilation which had been used the quantitative control method in discharge of a property of air mechanism in greenhouse, and caused mainly in waste of the heating energy and growth obstacle of the vegetable. Therefore, this study was peformed to obtain more scientific ventilation method using by analysis and measurement of the isothermal lines according to opening of window ventilation in greenhouse, and the results are summarized as follows. 1. The ventilating amount was more influenced by rather opening amount of window than the ventilating time. 2. In window ventilation, the temperature in greenhouse was mostly changed within 5 minutes after ventilating not regard to the spot of opening, after about 10 minutes temperature became to equilibrium state under the respective ventilating conditions. 3. In opening of the skylight only, isothermal lines were complicated, therefore, a tall vegetable may be possible to damage by a cold-weather from the lower central port in greenhouse. 4. Isothermal lines were a tendency to simply in opening of a side window that may be more effective ventilation in kinds of the short vegetable. 5. In conditions of internal temperature>setting temperature>external temperature, a skylight can be suitable to open 10~20cm in order to the optimum ventilation in greenhouse. 6. In conditions of internal temperature>external temperature>setting temperature, opening of all the windows or both the side windows that can be suitable in order to obtain the optimum ventilation in greenhouse. 7. An effect of ventilation was the most excellent to open of all the windows or both the side windows, and it were also found orderly excellent to open of the side window and the skylight or the skylight only, to open of the side window only. 8.   • This study was conducted to investigate the quality and organoleptic properties of dehydrated onions with steaming and heating. Sliced onions were treated as follows: steaming time ($X_1$, 5~25 min); drying temperature ($X_2$, $55{\sim}70^{\circ}C$) and drying time ($X_3$, 4~20 hr). All the variables were modelled and analyzed using a central composite design and response surface methodology (RSM). The coefficients ($R^2$) of the water content and water activity model induced from RSM were 0.9514 (p<0.01) and 0.9455 (p<0.01), respectively. The water content and water activity were affected by the drying temperature and time. The $R^2$ on the models of Hunter's L, a, b values were 0.9419 (p<0.05), 0.8818 (p<0.01) and 0.9360 (p<0.01), respectively. Hunter's L, a, b values were affected by the drying temperature and time, but Hunter's b value was not affected by the steaming time. In addition, the $R^2$ on the models of overall palatability was 0.8867 (p<0.05). The maximum palatability response was 5.92 when the steaming time was 13.14 min, the drying temperature was $63.11^{\circ}C$ and the drying time was 14.49 hr.

40Ar-39Ar Age Determination for the Quaternary Basaltic Rocks in Jeongok Area (전곡 지역 제4기 현무암질 암석의 40Ar-39Ar 연대 측정)

  • Quaternary basaltic rocks occur as volcanic plateau and/or river cliff in the watershed area of Hantan River in Jeongok, central Korea. We measured $^{40}Ar-^{39}Ar$ ages for the basaltic rocks from Jeongok area using the multi-collector noble gas mass spectrometer and laser heating device introduced for the first time in Korea. The basaltic rocks from the river cliff in Eundae-ri area show the systematic change in $^{40}Ar-^{39}Ar$ ages from $0.54{\pm}0.07Ma$ through $0.48{\pm}0.01Ma$ to $0.12{\pm}0.01Ma$ toward the top. The other sample from Jeongok-ri area yields the age of $0.43{\pm}0.04Ma$. This results suggest that there might be a episodic volcanic eruption between 0.12-0.54 Ma in Jeongok area.

Antimicrobial and Antitumor Activities of Seed Extracts of Camellia sinensis L. (차나무 종자 추출물의 항균활성 및 항종양활성)

  • Antimicrobial and antitumor activities of Camellia sinensis L seed extracts were investigated. Seed extracts showed antifungal activities against Candida albicans IFO 1594 and Cryptococcus neoformans. Inhibition zone of 20 mm was shown by 70% ethanol extract against C. albicans IFO 1594 at 100 mg/mL. Antifungal activity of seed extract was not decreased by heating at 80 and $100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min or at $121^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, indicating heat-stability of seed component. Growth-inhibitory effects were observed in 70 and 10% of tumor cell line SK-OV-3 and normal ceil line NIH/3T3 at $50{\mu}g/mL$, respectively.

  • 자연에너지원중 태양에너지를 이용한 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 난방에너지 절감효과를 분석하기 위하여 야간에 내부설정온도를 18℃로 했을 때의 자갈축열 태양열 온실과 동일한 제원의 대조온실의 난방연료소비량을 비교하였다. 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 경우 난방초기에는 연료가 대조온실에 비해 약 10%정도 더 소모되었으나 2일이 경과한 후에는 점차 난방연료소비량이 감소하였다(Fig. 2) 이러한 결과는 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 경우 주간에 온실에 투여되는 일사에 의해 축열이 이루어 질뿐만 아니라 야간에 난방을 할 경우에도 축열층의 온도가 설정온도에 도달할 때까지 축열이 이루지기 때문인 것으로 분석되었다 (Fig. 1). 3월 10일부터 3월 15일까지 6일간의 난방연료소비량이 대조온실은 167℃였으나, 자갈축열 태양열 온실은 109℃로써 대조온실에 비해 약 35%정도 난방연료 절감효과가 있는 것으로 분석되었다(Fig. 2). 6일간의 난방 후 자갈축열 태양열 온실에 난방을 중단한 결과 온실외부의 최저기온이 -2.4℃일 때 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 내부최저온도는 14℃를 유지하였으며, 이후 계속 난방을 수행하지 않은 상태에서도 주간에 축열효과로 인하여 최저외기온이 3℃전후일 때 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 내부온도는 15℃를 유지하였으나 대조온실은 5℃ 전후였다. 그리고, 일기온차가 심한 3월말에는 야간설정온도가 18℃인 경우에 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 난방연료소비량이 대조온실에 비해 월등히 적음을 알 수 있었다(Fig. 1, 2). 3월에 자갈축열 태양열 온실의 난방연료소비량은 대조온실에 비해 약 50%이상의 절감효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다./TEX>3.1cm, 2cm$\times$4.2cm 순으로 나타났다. 5. 저고리의 옆길이 곡선에 대한 평가는 진종의 중심인 겨드랑이가 5cm인 것이 가장 우수한 것으로 나타났으며, 그 다음으로 4cm, 6cm, 3cm 순으로 나타났다. 6. 이에 위의 항목들을 종합하여 제작한 연구저고리는 등길이가 28cm, 어깨선 위치는 1.75cm, 깃크기는 5cm$\times$21.5cm, 소매통 크기는 3cm$\times$4.3cm, 옆길이 곡선은 5cm로써 그 형태에 따른 신체적합성에 대한 외관 관능검사 결과로 3.83의 평균값으로 나타났고, 심미성에 대한 외관 관능검사를 항목별 평균치 값으로 종합하면 4.00의 값으로 나타났다. 또한 각 부위별 동작적합성 관능검사는 7가지 동작을 부위별 항목 평균치 결과 3.95의 유수한 저고리로 평가되었다. 본 연구 실험 결과 앞으로도 전통 저고리를 피복함에 있어 외관과 동작적합성이 좋은 저고리를 만들기 위해 지속적 연구가 요청된다. turned back than the Korean women's. Bacterial Growth-inhibiting Activity of Amniotic Fluid Against E. coli (양수의 대장균에 대한 세균증식 억제효과)

  • The amniotic fluid provides a medium in which the fetus can readily move, cushions him against possible injury and helps him maintain an even temperature. Besides above mentioned functions, investigators reported that human amniotic fluid contains host-resistance factors which prevent bacteria from producing infectious disease and this activity shows difference among human racial groups or bacterial genera, species and strains. 40 amniotic fluid specimens from Korean women in their second and third trimesters of pregnancy were examined for inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli. And various factors which might affect bacterial growth inhibiting activity such as pH, initial inoculum size, concentration of amniotic fluid, and heat resistance, were also tested using a strongly inhibitory amniotic fluid specimen. Finally plate diffusion tests were carried out using other strongly inhibitory amniotic fluid. The following results were obtained: 1. Of the 40 fluid samples examined, 18 specimens(45%) had inhibitory activity and samples from women in their second trimester of pregnanancy showed non-inhibitory activity(2 specimens). 2. The pH of the fluids varied between 7.43 and 8.33. There was no correlation between pH and inhibitory activity. 3. No. 19 amniotic fluid showed bacteriostatic activity after 24 hours incubation when an inoculum of $10^2$ organisms per milliliter was used, but non-inhibitory with an inoculum of $10^3$ and $10^4$ bacteria per milliliter. 4. The content of amniotic fluid in culture media influenced E. coli growth. At 90 percent, E. coli was inhibited growth but at 10 percent and 50 percent. 5. Inhibitory activity of No. 19 amniotic fluid was retained after heating to $50^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes or 100^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes. 6. Plate diffusion tests with No. 27 amniotic fluid showed that 0.7ml amniotic fluid gave clear zone of growth inhibition around the central well but 0.2ml and 0.1ml amniotic fluids were not.

A Review on the Characteristics of Temperature Variation in Warm Needle (온침의 온도변화 특성에 대한 문헌 고찰 연구)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to organize the research methods and results of studies related to the temperature of the warm needle for systematic utilization of warm needling technique. Methods: This study used the databases of nine (Pubmed, Science Direct, Cochrane Central, 4 Korean databases, CNKI, CiNii) to analyze temperature-related studies of the warm needle from 2000 to June 2019. Results: A total of 19 papers were included. Of these, 15 were used for mugwort, 2 for high frequency, and 1 for both mugwort and high frequency, and the other one for a ceramic heater. The maximum temperature rises as the amount of moxibustion increases. It is also affected by the density of moxa and the ignition part. There were 16 papers using stainless steel needles and 4 papers using a needle made of gold or silver to compare. In the area of the needle, the closer it is to moxibustion, the hotter it is. Compared to stainless steel needles, gold and silver needles showed almost twice the temperature. The effects of environment and radiant heat should be considered during warm needle procedures. Conclusions: There are various experimental methods such as warm needle technique materials, methods, measuring parts, measuring instruments, etc. The results were also very diverse. When setting the heating source, ignition part, size of moxibustion, etc. of warm needles, it should be implemented in a way that takes safety and validity into account. Considerations for temperature characteristics, radiant heat, etc. of warm needles will be needed when making warm needle apparatus.

Estimation of fire Experiment Prediction by Utility Tunnels Fire Experiment and Simulation (지하공동구 화재 실험 및 시뮬레이션에 의한 화재 설칠 예측 평가)

  • The utility tunnels are the important facility as a mainstay of country because of the latest communication developments. However, the utilities tunnel is difficult to deal with in case of a fire accident. When a cable burns, the black smoke containing poisonous gas will be reduced. This black smoke goes into the tunnel, and makes it difficult to extinguish the fire. Therefore, when there was a fire in the utility tunnel, the central nerves of the country had been paralyzed, such as property damage, communication interruption, in addition to inconvenience for people. This paper is based on the fire occurred in the past, and reenacting the fire by making the real utilities tunnel model. The aim of this paper is the scientific analysis of the character image of the fire, and the verification of each fire protection system whether it works well after process of setting up a fire protection system in the utilities tunnel at a constant temperature. The fire experiment was equipped with the linear heat detector, the fire door, the connection water spray system and the ventilation system in the utilities tunnel. Fixed portion of an electric power supply cable was coated with a fire retardant coating, and a heating tube was covered with a fireproof. The result showed that the highest temperature was $932^{\circ}c$ and the linear heat detector was working at the constant temperature, and it pointed at the place of the fire on the receiving board, and Fixed portion of the electric power supply cable coated with the fire retardant coating did not work as the fireproof. The heating tube was covered with the fireproof about 30 minutes.
