Design and Fabrication of a Ka-Band 10 W Power Amplifier Module (Ka-대역 10 W 전력증폭기 모듈의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a Ka-band 10 W power amplifier module is designed and fabricated using MIC(Microwave Integrated Circuit) module technology which combines multiple power MMIC(Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) chips on a thin film substrate. Modified Wilkinson power dividers/combiners are used for millimeter wave modules and CBFGC-PW-Microstrip transitions are utilized for reducing connection loss and suppressing resonance in the high-gain and high-power modules. The power amplifier module consists of seven MMIC chips and operates in a pulsed mode. for the pulsed mode operation, a gate pulse control circuit supplying the control voltage pulses to MMIC chips is designed and applied. The fabricated power amplifier module shows a power gain of about 58 dB and a saturated output power of 39.6 dBm at a center frequency of the interested frequency band.

  • The neuromorphic technology has been researched for decades, which learns and processes the information by imitating the human brain. The hardware implementations of neuromorphic systems are configured with highly parallel processing structures and a number of simple computational units. It can achieve high processing speed, low power consumption, and low hardware complexity. Recently, the interests of the neuromorphic technology for low power and small embedded systems have been increasing rapidly. To implement low-complexity hardware, it is necessary to reduce input data dimension without accuracy loss. This paper proposed a low-complexity artificial intelligent engine which consists of parallel neuron engines and a feature extractor. A artificial intelligent engine has a number of neuron engines and its controller to process multimodal sensor data. We verified the performance of the proposed neuron engine including the designed artificial intelligent engines, the feature extractor, and a Micro Controller Unit(MCU).

Characteristics of Sedimentary Environments in Gamak Bay based on Numerical Experiments (수치실험에 기초한 가막만의 퇴적 환경 특성)

  • We carried out numerical experiments to understand sedimentary environments in Gamak Bay where is located in the center of the southern coast of Korea. Deposition rates in Gamak Bay appeared to increase in the autumn and spring whereas they appeared to decrease in the summer and winter. These seasonal variations qualitatively coincided with seasonal variations of Ignition Loss (IL) for surface sediments. Furthermore, deposition rates turned out to be prevalent compared to erosion rates in most areas of the bay. On the other hand, current measurement results at both the northeast and south mouths of the bay showed their residual components to flow into the bay. Therefore, we can conclude that contaminated materials flowing into Gamak Bay will precipitate to be deposited in the bay as long as there is no specific events such as dredging.

The Development of Quantitative Audit System for Safety Management Systems based on Accident Database (사고 데이터베이스를 활용한 안전 관리 시스템의 정량적 Audit 시스템 개발)

  • In the chemical process industries, accidents have a high potential and large effects on catastrophic results. Therefore the safety management for accident prevention plays a crucial role to guarantee the process safety. For these reasons, many systematic methods for safety management system have been widely employed in the fields of chemical processes. PSM (Process safety management) is one of most representative methods. The audit system, which is one of PSM system components, evaluates the performance of PMS system. However, most existing safety audit systems are not systematic and these are performed based on knowledges and experiences of various specialist. Moreover, the safety audit is only performed based on each independent technical component. So, the results of safety audit are not a quantitative index but only a series of commentaries. Finally, it is very difficult to obtain the comparison with other plants or industries. In this study, the novel systematic method and index-based accident database of auditing safety management systems for quantitative assessment are proposed. First, the elements of safety audit replace technical methods to categories of accident database. The F-N curve of each category for accident database is employed to derive the index for quantitative assessment. The Accidental Factor Risk Index (AFRI) is suggested for evaluating the effect of each element in accident database and safety audit system. The safety audit can be modified according to the proposed index.

  • Recent warnings indicate that there is a potential risk of massive earthquake in Japan within 30 years. These earthquakes could produce large-scale tsunamis. Tsunamis are very powerful and can be traveled thousands of miles and caused damage in many countries. Consideration of the effect of tsunami to the moored ship is very important because it brings the loss of life and vast property damage. In this paper, the numerical simulation procedure to analyze the motions of a moored ship due to the observed waves of tsunami, Tokachi-off earthquake tsunami profile in northern Pacific coasts of Japan on September 26 in 2003. And the effects on the motions and mooring loads are investigated by numerical simulation. Numerical simulations consist of hydrodynamic analyses in a frequency domain and ship motion analyses in a time domain as the motions of moored ships are examined. As the process begins, the hydrodynamic and waveexciting forces for moored ships must be calculated. Ship motions and mooring forces can then be calculated by solving the equations of motion. In order to investigate the safety evaluation on the motions of moored ship by tsunami attack, we applied a numerical simulation procedure to a 135,000m3 LNG carrier moored at an offshore sea berth.

The effects of the shape of IDT electrode pair on the characteristics of SFIT filter (IDT형의 전극 형태가 SFIT형 필터의 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of the reflector type for the SAW filter on the characteristics of the slanted finger IDT filter have been studied by computer simulation. The IDT was evaporated by Aluminum-Copper alloy. The design condition was optimized by the phase shift of the SAWfilter for WCDMA. We have employed that the number of pairs of the input and output IDT are 50 pairs and the thickness are $5,000{\AA}$, and the width and the space of reflector are $3.6{\mu}m$ and $2.0{\mu}m$, respectively. Frequency response of the fabricated SFIT filter has the property that the center frequency is about 190MHz and bandwidth at the 3dB is probably 8.2MHz. And we could obtain that the return loss is less then 16dB, the ripple characteristics is probably 4dB and the triple transit echo is less then 18dB after when we have matched impedance.

  • The proposed variable pawer divider in this paper is composed of one equal power 2-way Wilkinson power divider, two variable phase shifters with 90-degree phase variation to be connected two output paths of the 2-way power divider, and one branchline coupler to combine output signals of two variable phase shifter. The proposed variable power divider can theoretically have an arbitrary power division ratio ranging from ${\infty}:1$ to ${\infty}:1$ due to 90-degrees phase variation of two phase shifter. The proposed power divider circuit fabricates on laminated TLX-9(h=20 mil, er=2.5; Taconic) with a center frequency of 1.7 GHz. The power division ratio of the fabricated prototype varies from about 1:100 to 200:1, with an input reflection characteristic(S11) of below -16 dB, an insertion loss of about -1.0 dB, and an isolation characteristic of below -17 dB between two output ports in the range 1.65-1.75 GHz.

  • Silica is an essential material in the electronics industries of LCDs and OLEDs, which particularly require high purity. This study attempted to find the optimal design of a magnetic separator for silica sand containing iron compounds using CFD simulation. Three designs of magnetic separation were prepared and their efficiency was examined. As a result of the evaluation, the sufficient contact of particulate silica with the surface of magnetic emitters improved the magnetic separation effects. In addition, the loss of $SiO_2$ and the removal rate of $Fe_2O_3$ depended strongly on the particle size, flow rate and magnetic flux density. In addition, magnetic separation is quite effective for a particle size of $10{\mu}m$ with a 0.2 m/s flow rate.

  • For group security to protect group data or to charge, group keys should be updated via key update messages when the membership of group changes. If we lose these messages, it is not possible to decrypt the group data and so this is why the recovery of lost keys is very significant. Any message lost during a certain member is logged off can not be recovered in real-time. Saving all messages and resending them by KDC (Key Distribution Center) not only requests large saving spaces, but also causes to transmit and decrypt unnecessary keys. This paper analyzes the problem of the loss of key update messages along with other problems that may arise during member login procedure, and also gives an efficient method for recovering group keys and auxiliary keys. This method provides that group keys and auxiliary keys can be recovered and sent effectively using information stored in key-tree. The group key generation method presented in this paper is simple and enable us to recover any group key without storing. It also eliminates the transmissions and decryptions of useless auxiliary keys.

  • ubiquitous network management system (u-NMS) is the network management system based on smartphone which are recently of wide use. The purpose of the u-NMS is to provide convenience for network administrator utilizing the mobility of smartphone and to manage the network efficiently. This paper proposes the smart NMS agent and the mobility management server (MMS). The smart NMS agent enables to use the monitoring web server and remote control application on the smartphone in wireless network. The MMS is developed to reduce the problems such as handover latency and packet loss, which can be taken place in wireless network. The network manager can monitor traffic in real time through the smart NMS agent and remotely control the network efficiently when sudden failures happen in the u-NMS. In this paper, performance evaluation is carried out with our test-bed system implemented. We focus on the measurement of the MMS performance. When the MMS is compared to previous mobility management protocol, our mobility management server reduces the average latency up to 65% in initial access, handover latency and processing delay to the network management center.
