  • In this study, we evaluated the effects of dietary fiber extracted from Algelica keiskei Koidz on the chemical composition, cooking characteristics, and sensory properties of chicken patties. The chicken patties with Algelica keiskei Koidz dietary fiber had significantly higher moisture and ash content, and yellowness than the control sample (p<0.05). Energy value, cooking loss, reduction in diameter, reduction in thickness, lightness, redness, hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness of the control samples was significantly higher than chicken patties with Algelica keiskei Koidz dietary fiber (p<0.05). The sensory evaluation indicated that the greatest overall acceptability in chicken patties was achieved at Algelica keiskei Koidz dietary fiber levels of 1% and 2%. Chicken patties supplemented with 2% Algelica keiskei Koidz dietary fiber had improved quality characteristics.

  • Nomura Kohsan Corp. is producing oxides, such as ZnMn$_2$O$_4$, ZnFe$_2$O$_4$, and ZnO, by burning the used dry manganese cells and by sorting out the remnant materials. It is possible to use the recycled materials of the spent dry batteries as the raw materials of deflection yoke cores. Making hish roasting temperature in the recycling system has an effect in reduction of the impurities. As a result, the loss of the cores using the recycled materials is lower. When using the recycled materials, it is required to add Mg (OH)$_2$. ZnO, and Fe$_2$O$_3$in order to rectify the composition of the MnMgZn ferrite for deflection yoke core applications. Furthermore, in order to disappear ZnMn$_2$O$_4$in the formation, it is necessary to control at higher calcining temperatures. The MnMgZn ferrite of using the recycled materials becomes Toss equivalent to the conventional material. TDK Corp. is manufacturing the deflection yoke cores from 1996 using the material recycled from the spent dry batteries.

  • Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), a unique class of polymers, combine the processing ease of thermoplastics with the advanced properties of thermoset rubbers. TPEs can be remelted several times without any significant loss of properties, and can be molded into complex shapes using conventional processing equipment. Due to their characteristics, TPEs are ideal for use in a variety of applications in the automotive field. Although the TPE market of the Republic of Korea is currently at its niche, the increasing manufacturing push from major companies is expected to open up multiple opportunities for these products in the automotive sector. This manuscript highlights a detailed technological trend of the global automotive thermoplastic elastomers market.

  • Objectives : This study investigates the association between weather conditions and the rate of no-shows at an academic medical center. Methods : Electronic data regarding medical appointments atover the course ofone academic year (2016.03~2017.02) were used for analysis. Characteristics of weather conditions and the daily number of no-shows were compared by Chi-square test. A logistic regression was run to determine if certain aspects of weather affected the rate of no-shows. Results : The results reveal an overall no-show rate of 6.8% that appears to vary in accordance with specific weather conditions. Lower average temperatures, in particular, corresponded with a higher rate of no-show patients. This may indicate that o-show rates in autumn and winter can be expected to exceed those during spring. Conclusions : This study investigates the association between no-show patients and weather conditions, and offers suggestions for augmenting this loss. One recommendation is to begin conducting investigations nationwide in order to provide more useful information.

  • Optimization study was carried out to improve the durability of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) in alkaline fuel cell cathode by the use of highly stable PDMS superhydrophobic coating. Two different commercial GDLs were selected as substrates. Coating temperature and viscosity of PDMS were controlled for the stability of structure in microporous layer of GDL as well as uniform coating according to thermal characteristics of GDL. Regardless of PDMS viscosity, highly stable superhydrophobicities were obtained with both GDLs at $200^{\circ}C$. After the accelerated test, however, 28BC GDL coated with 1000 CS PDMS showed the best durability with the lowest loss of superhydrophobicity.

  • Porcine liver esterase was immobilized in polyacrylamide gel for the enantioselective production of levofloxacin from ofloxacin butyl ester. The initial activity of immobilized esterase was found to be significantly affected by the polyacrylamide gel composition. The optimum concentrations of monomer and crosslinker were determined to be 20% and 8.3%, respectively. The activity of immobilized esterase was 55.4% compared to a free enzyme. Enantiomeric excess was maintained at 60%, almost the same level as that of free enzyme. In addition, the immobilized esterase could be used repeatedly up to 10 times without experiencing any severe loss of activity and enantioselectivity.

  • This paper introduces the development process and investigation of a 60kW induction motor for electric vehicles. We present performance improvement in the induction motor of electric vehicle using copper die-casting based on a multi-gate process. Copper die-casting motors can reduce the size of the motor, the loss of the rotor, and material costs. We also introduce electromagnetic, thermal, mechanical design and analysis results that satisfy the design and the performance requirements. In order to analyze losses accurately of induction motor, commercial finite element analysis is done considering PWM voltage and thermal characteristics by using lumped-circuit parameters. Experimental tests are also carried out to validate the traction motor design.

  • Bartter syndrome (BS) is an inherited renal tubular disorder characterized by low or normal blood pressure, hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis, and hyperreninemic hyperaldosteronism. Type III BS is caused by loss-of-function mutations in CLCNKB encoding basolateral ClC-Kb. The clinical phenotype of patients with CLCNKB mutations has been known to be highly variable, and cases that are difficult to categorize as type III BS or other hereditary tubulopathies, such as Gitelman syndrome, have been rarely reported. We report a case of a 10-year-old Korean boy with atypical clinical findings caused by a novel CLCNKB mutation. The boy showed intermittent muscle cramps with laboratory findings of hypokalemia, severe hypomagnesemia, and nephrocalcinosis. These findings were not fully compatible with those observed in cases of BS or Gitelman syndrome. The CLCNKB mutation analysis revealed a heterozygous c.139G>A transition in exon 13 [p.Gly(GGG)465Glu(GAG)]. This change is not a known mutation; however, the clinical findings and in silico prediction results indicated that it is the underlying cause of his presentation.

  • In this paper, the abdominal-deformation measurement scheme is conducted on a shape-flexible mannequin using the DIC technique in a stereo-vision system. Firstly, during the integer-pixel displacement search, a novel fractal dimension based on an adaptive-ellipse subset area is developed to track an integer pixel between the reference and deformed images. Secondly, at the subpixel registration, a new mutual-learning adaptive particle swarm optimization (MLADPSO) algorithm is employed to locate the subpixel precisely. Dynamic adjustments of the particle flight velocities that are according to the deformation extent of each interest point are utilized for enhancing the accuracy of the subpixel registration. A test is performed on the abdominal-deformation measurement of the shape-flexible mannequin. The experiment results indicate that under the guarantee of its measurement accuracy without the cause of any loss, the time-consumption of the proposed scheme is significantly more efficient than that of the conventional method, particularly in the case of a large number of interest points.

  • Altered acetylcholine (Ach) homeostasis is associated with loss of viability in flies, developmental defects in mice, and cognitive deficits in human. Here, we assessed the importance of Ach in Caenorhabditis elegans development, focusing on the role of Ach during dauer formation. We found that dauer formation was disturbed in choline acetyltransferase (cha-1) and acetylcholinesterase (ace) mutants defective in Ach biosynthesis and degradation, respectively. When examined the potential role of G-proteins in dauer formation, goa-1 and egl-30 mutant worms, expressing mutated versions of mammalian $G_o$ and $G_q$ homolog, respectively, showed some abnormalities in dauer formation. Using quantitative mass spectrometry, we also found that dauer larvae had lower Ach content than did reproductively grown larvae. In addition, a proteomic analysis of acetylcholinesterase mutant worms, which have excessive levels of Ach, showed differential expression of metabolic genes. Collectively, these results indicate that alterations in Ach release may influence dauer formation in C. elegans.
