Effects of the Micro-hole Target Structures on the Laser-driven Energetic Proton Generation

  • Micro-hole targets are studied to generate energetic protons from laser-thin foil targets by using 2-dimensional particle-in-cell simulations. By using a small hole, the maximum energy of the accelerated proton is increased to 4 times higher than that from a simple planar target. The main proton acceleration mechanism of the hole-targets is the electrostatic field created between the fast electrons accelerated by the laser pulse ponderomotive force combined with the vacuum heating and the target rear surface. But in this case, the proton angular distribution shows double-peak shape, which means poor collimation and low current density. By using a small cone-shaped hole, the maximum proton energy is increased 3 times higher than that from a simple planar target. Furthermore, the angular distribution of the accelerated protons shows good collimation.

  • In this paper, we analyze the failure mechanism of the washer pump to find what is the failure cause in the road environment. The statistics show the field common failure mode is inner corrosion. The failure mechanism is assumed that the inner part of washer pump is corroded due to inflow of moisture through vent hole. To prevent the failure, we can think a method that is covering the vent hole. In general, the vent hole is designed to play an important role in an automobile parts. So, we need to prove the vent hole is not necessary. The first purpose of this paper is to make sure that the vent hole does not affect the durability of washer pump using the analysis of operating condition. The second purpose is to compare the durability properties if the vent hole is covered.

  • The objective of this paper is to decide optimal location of pin-hole to minimize stress concenstation around hole in rotating disc. The focus of this investigation is to evaluate the effect of pin-hole for stress distribution around hole using optimum design technic and finite element analysis. Design variables are radial and angular location of pin-hole from center of hole, objective function is maximum stress around hole in rotating disc. We use first order method of optimization technic.

  • Efficient top-emitting organic light-emitting diodes were fabricated using copper iodide (CuI) doped NPB as a p-doped hole injection layer to improve hole injection from a silver bottom electrode. The enhanced hole injection is originated from the formation of the charge transfer complex between CuI and NPB. The devices result in high efficiency of 69 cd/A with almost Lambertian emission pattern.

Buckling Behavior of Sandwich Composite Columns by Varying Hole Size and Hole Position (원공 크기 및 원공 위치에 따른 샌드위치 복합재 기둥의 좌굴 거동)

  • The study investigated the buckling behavior of sandwich composite columns with different hole sizes and hole positions when they were applied to a compressive load. The columns consisted of 1.7mm thick faces of glass fabric/epoxy and 23mm, 37mm, 48mm, and 61mm thick cores of urethane-foam. Different hole sizes with the diameter of 25mm and 38mm were considered in this experiment. To evaluate the effect of hole position on the buckling behavior, we considered three types of hole position: 25mm diameter hole located at the center, 25mm diameter hole at 1/4 position from the center to the end of the column, and 25mm diameter hole at 1/2 position from the center to the end of the column. According to the results, buckling and maximum loads of the column having 25mm diameter hole were lower by 10% compared to those of the column without hole, whereas the loads for the column having 38mm diameter hole were 30% less than those of the column without hole. Hole position appeared to have no effect on buckling and maximum loads. Major failure modes were observed as follows: the core shear failure for the thin columns having 23mm and 37mm thick cores, and the face-core debonding for the thick columns having 48mm and 61mm thick cores.

Chronic Subdural Hematomas : A Comparative Study of Three Types of Operative Procedures

  • Objective : Several surgical procedures have been reported for the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). We compared the results of treatments for CSDH obtained from one burr-hole craniostomy with closed system drainage with or without irrigation, two burr-hole craniostomy with closed system drainage with irrigation, and small craniotomy with irrigation and closed-system drainage. Methods : Eighty-seven patients with CSDH underwent surgery at our institution from January 2004 to December 2008. Our patients were classified into three groups according to the operative procedure; group I, one burr-hole craniostomy with closed system drainage with or without irrigation (n=25), group II, two burr-hole craniostomy with closed system drainage with irrigation (n=32), and group III, small craniotomy with irrigation and closed-system drainage (n=30). Results : Age distribution, male and female ratio, Markwalder's grade on admission and at the time of discharge, size of hematoma before and after surgery, duration of operation, Hounsfield unit of hematoma before and after surgery, duration of hospital treatment, complication rate, and revision rate were categories that we compared between groups. Duration of operation and hospitalization were only two categories which were different. But, when comparing burr hole craniostomy group (group I and group II) with small craniotomy group (group III), duration of post-operative hospital treatment, complication and recurrence rate were statistically lower in small craniotomy group, even though operation time was longer. Conclusion : Such results indicate that small craniotomy with irrigation and closed-system drainage can be considered as one of the treatment options in patients with CSDH.

  • This paper deals with the stress concentration of the rotating disc in detail. We studied maximum stress of rotating disc with respect to the various parameter of circular hole such as position, size, number of the hole, then the mollified effect of maximum stress due to pin-hole around circular hole, using FEM, the results are as follows: 1. The more the number of circular hole and the further from the center, the maximum equivalent stress reduces. 2. When the pin-hole is located 60$^{\circ}$ from the x-axis, the maximum stress reduces significantly due to the effect of interference.

  • Stretch-flangeability, which is the ability of sheet steels to be deformed into complex shapes, is a critical formability property in automobile body parts. In this study, the center-hole for hole expansion test, which is normally used to evaluate the stretch-flangeability of sheet steels, was prepared by both punching and electrical discharge machining (EDM) methods. Hole expansion ratio (HER) of punched hole was far lower than the HER of EDM drilled hole because of damage/crack in hole-edge due to punching process. The effect of hole-edge condition on HER was quantified by mechanical, fractographic and geometric factors. Based on these factors, the empirical equation used to determine HER for various sheet steels was derived using non-linear regression.

  • A precision planting system using computer controlled technology for mulching cultivation was developed and tested . The system consisting of a micro-computer, several optical fiber sensors and control actuators realized the mechanization of the precision planting operation. The film hole positions, existences of a seed on shutter were detected and the planting speed was measured. The shutter opening mechanism and a seed metering device driven by a stepping motor were controlled, automatically . The planting timing of the shutter opening mechanism were analyzed from a video camera motion analysis, theoretically. The results showed a sufficient accuracy of a seed planted into the center a film hole with a variety of planting speeded. The gravity point positions in film hole of seeds planted by the system just were within the area of +-5mm of the hole center when the hole diameter was 40mm.

  • This paper has been realized PCB insert machine automation system. For the reduction of the install programming time as well as possible, a new technique is addressed. In detail, an image frame is initially divided into one area whose size decreases according to the distance from hole to hole on PCB. Searching center of hole using a threshold method after median filtering. At every moment of mouse click, area is shifted to locate the hole, and detect a center of hole in a new area. Experimental results are demonstrated to verify the superiority of this scheme in detecting position of part by comparing with a man of experience.
