The thermal degradation of concrete results mainly from two mechanisms. The first one is related to phase transformations of constituents at different temperatures. The initial constituents transform to other phases due to elevated temperature. The second mechanism is related to the temperature sensitivity of the mechanical properties of the constituents in concrete. Therefore, the degradation of concrete under high temperatures must be studied from both mechanical and chemical points of view. This study was performed as a basic study to propose the material models of concrete exposed to high temperatures considering above two mechanisms. This study presents a prediction model on the porosity of hardened cement paste considering phase changes according to temperature increase.

Mercury intrusion and nitrogen sorption porosimetry were employed to investigate the pore structure of calcium sulfoaluminate ($C{\bar{S}}A$) and portland cement pastes with cement-to-water ratio (w/c) of 0.40, 0.50, and 0.60. A unimodal distribution of pore size was drawn for $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement pastes, whereas a bimodal distribution was established for the portland cement pastes through analysis of mercury intrusion porosimetry. For the experimental results generated by nitrogen sorption porosimetry, the $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement pastes have a smaller and coarser pore volume than cement paste samples under the same w/c condition. The relative dynamic modulus and percentage weight loss were used for investigation of the concrete durability in freeze-thaw condition. When coarse aggregate with good freeze-thaw durability was mixed, air entrained portland cement concrete has the same durability in terms of relative dynamic modulus as $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement concrete in a freeze-thaw environment. The $C{\bar{S}}A$ cement concrete with poor performance of durability in a freeze-thaw environment demonstrates the improved durability by 300 % over portland cement concrete. The $C{\bar{S}}A$ concrete with good performance aggregate also exhibits less surface scaling in a freeze-thaw environment, losing 11 % less mass after 297 cycles.

Pollution of chloride ion-reinforced concrete can trigger active corrosion processes that reduce the useful life of structures. Multifunctional materials used as a counter-electrode by electrochemical techniques have been used to rehabilitate contaminated concrete. Cement-based pastes added to carbonaceous material, fibers or dust, have been used as an anode in the non-destructive Electrochemical Chloride Extraction (ECE) technique. We studied the performance of the addition of Carbon Fiber (CF) in a cement-graphite powder base paste used as an anode in ECE of concretes contaminated with chlorides from the preparation of the mixture. The experimental parameters were: 2.3% of free chlorides, 21 days of ECE application, a Carbon Fiber Volume Fraction (CFVF) of 0.1, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9%, a lithium borate alkaline electrolyte, a current density of $4.0A/m^2$ and a cement/graphite ratio of 1.0 for the paste. The efficiency of the ECE in the traditional technique using metal mesh as an anode was 77.6% and for CFVF of 0.9% it was 90.4%, with a tendency to increase to higher percentages of the CFVF in the conductive cement-graphite paste, keeping the pH stable and achieving a homogeneous ECE in the mass of the concrete contaminated with chlorides.

Palm Oil Fuel Ash(POFA) has been widely used to replace Portland cement to enhance the mechanical properties and durability of concrete. However, it reduces the workability of concrete due to the high content of unburnt carbon and its angular shape requiring the usage of superplasticizer to ensure a proper flowability. In this study, effects of different types and dosage of superplasticizer on the early mechanical and hydration properties of cement paste containing micro-POFA were evaluated using mini-slump test, early compressive strength, TGA, XRD, and SEM. The results indicated that the flowability of cement paste containing micro-POFA reduced as the replacement ratio of micro-POFA increased. As the dosage of superplasticizer increased, the flowability was also increased. In addition, the usage of superplasticizer reduced the early compressive strength, and the strength decreased with an increase in the dosage of superplasticizer. It was confirmed that superplasticizer hindered the formation of C-S-H leading to a relative increase in the formation of Ca(OH)2.

The chemical shrinkage and the autogenous shrinkage have been determined experimentally for cement pastes incorporating different W/C ratio and different amount of the following addition: silica fume, fly ash and sand. The measurement method of the chemical shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage both were the volumetric technique. The silica fume has a effect of increasing the autogenous shrinkage while have a minor effect on the chemical shrinkage. The addition of fly-ash and sand both decreased the amount of chemical shrinkage and autogenous shrinkage.

Waste concrete powder(WCP) has been estimated with a great value-added material as by-product of waste concrete manufactured to fine and coarse aggregate for concrete, because it is able to utilized for cement clinker and concrete admixture. In the experimental results for this study, chemical composition of WCP was similar to that of cement, and specific gravity of WCPs were 2.46 and 2.48 due to internal micro-void of WCP. Final setting of paste with WCP was delayed, and flow value of mortar with WCP was tendency to reduced in comparison with that of paste and mortar with only ordinary portland cement as replacement ratio of WCP increased. Furthermore, sorptivity of mortar with WCP was increased as replacement ratio of WCP increased. Compressive strength of mortar with $15\%$ WCP was developed about 27MPa at 28days.

Development of high-strength concrete and improved durability has brought new opportunities to the construction industry. However, some attention was given to characteristics of such concrete, in particular with respect to their cracking sensitivity. It has been argued and demonstrated experimentally that a low water/cement ratio concrete undergoes shrinkage due to self-desiccation. This so-called autogenous shrinkage cracking is a major concern for concrete durability. One possible method to reduce cracking due to autogenous shrinkage is the addition of expansive additive. Tests conducted by many researches have shown the beneficial effects of addition of expansive for reducing the risk of shrinkage-introduced cracking. This paper aimed at forecasting deformation of high strength cement paste with expansive additive for early age.

In this paper, the experimental investigation for the setting properties of cement paste, the consistency and strength properties of mortar with steel furnace slag dust was performed and compared with those of cement paste and mortar with ground granulated blast furnace slag. When steel furnace slag dust was replaced with normal portland cement, setting time and flow value indicated to good results like as mortar with ground granulated blast furnace slag. However, mortar with steel furnace slag dust expressed to appreciably strength devaluation according to containing ratio, and did not indicate the pozzolanic reaction like as ground granulated blast furnace slag.

The objective of this work was to examine the influence of carbonation on the microstructure of cement materials. Different materials, which were CEM I mortar and paste, CEM II mortar and paste, were carbonated at $20^{\circ}C$, 65 % relative humidity and 20 % of $CO_2$ concentration. The specific surface area and pore size distribution were determined from two methods: nitrogen adsorption and water adsorption. The results showed that: (1) nitrogen adsorption and water adsorption do not cover the same porous domains and thus, we observed conflicts in the results obtained by these two techniques; (2) the CEM II based materials seemed to be more sensible to a creation of mesoporosity after carbonation than the CEM I based materials. The results of this study also helped to explain why observations in the literature diverge greatly on the influence of carbonation on specific surface area.

The purpose of this study is not only fixation of carbon dioxide using the cement-Paste solution's calcium ion by wet carbonating reaction but also quantitatively evaluate the possibility of storage technology of Carbon dioxide. wet carbonation is reaction of CO2 injection by CO2 reactor. As a result of experiment, the carbon dioxide is fixed, and high-purity Calcium Carbonate is eluted.
