Activating Temperature of Kaolin As a Cement Admixture

  • This research concerns the effect of kaolin as material of cement admixture. which has the advantage of low price and high adaptability. Kaolin, a kind of soil, is well known as a raw material of pottery. which is widely scat-tered on the earth (especially in Korea). This research shows the method and process for activating kaolin to have the properties of a cement admixture through experiment. In the experiments, kaolin is baked in high temperature and then cooled suddenly to be activated. The temperature zone and time span, on which kaolin is activated are examined. The research looks over the effect of the activated kaolin based on several criteria regarding to chemical and physical characteristic of general admixtures. The results of this research are as follows; kaolin start activation at the temperature above 50$0^{\circ}C$ and make ends of activation at the temperature below 95$0^{\circ}C$ and there was little effect by the change of duration. It is concluded that compressive strength can be increased by putting activated kaolin in the concrete and the activated kaolin is good for water resistance and anti-chemical , and that it is effective for protecting the leakage of hazardous article like Cl- and for protecting damage by an organic salt like acid. The activated kaolin of proper temperature and time is effective in compressive strength, salt resistance and acid resistance. The adaptability of activated kaolin as a cement admixture was shown through this research.

제지용 신규원료 플라이애시의 적용 가능성 평가 (Study on Fly Ash as a New Raw Material in Paperboard Process)

  • In this study, the possibility of the use of a new raw material in paperboard industry was investigated. Fly ash is one of the residues generated in the combustion of coal and generally captured from the chimney of coal-fired power plant. This material is utilized in many industries including cement, soil stabilization, composite etc., but it is not used in paper industry. Three types of fly ashes were collected from Hadong, boryeong and Seocheon steam power plants and we investigated their properties by scanning electron micrographs and particle size distribution. Papers were manufactured with KOCC and fly ashes, and the physical properties such as bulk, tensile strength, internal bond strength and ISO brightness were measured to identify the effects of fly ash on the paper properties.

  • For substitution for crushed sand, high strength aggregate for cement and concrete using coal ash as a main material was prepared and then compared its physical properties with those of crushed sand. Effect of mix proportion change of raw materials on the property of aggregate was checked. On the basis of these experimental results we are going to comprehend the reutilization of coal ash and utilize a basic data for judging possibility the substitution of crushed sand.

  • For the raw materials of 3CaO$\cdot$3Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ $\cdot$CaSO$_{4}$(CSA) clinker manufacturing, the applications of industrial wastes such as waste shell, spent oil-refining catalyst and desulfurized gypsum were examined. The c1inkerbility of the raw mix and the behaviour of formation of clinker minerals were studied and then some hydraulic properties of cements containing the clinker were also investigated. By virtue of the high reactivity of thermally decomposed raw materials, CSA clinkers were obtained at relatively low temperature of 1250$^{\circ}C$ and thus oil-refining catalysts were more desirable than aluminium hydroxide as an aluminous raw material. The expansive cement samples showed somewhat lower flow value than that of OPC, but their compressive strengths were developed earlier and higher than that of OPC due to formation of ettringite in the early hydration time, which indicated the possibility of practical use of low-cost CSA clinker using industrial wastes only.

  • 폐콘크리트의 재활용에 대한 연구는 주로 고품질 순환골재 생산에 포커스를 맞춰 연구가 진행되어 왔으며, 그 결과 순환골재 국가표준을 제정하는 등 적극적으로 사용할 수 있는 환경이 조성되었다. 하지만 폐콘크리트 미분말의 경우, 그 활용에 대한 연구가 국내에서 많이 수행되었음에도 불구하고 상용화로 이어지는 획기적인 기술은 아직 발표되지 않은 실정이다. 최근 해외 주요 선진국에서는 폐콘크리트 미분말을 클링커나 시멘트의 원료로 사용하는 기술에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이와 같은 배경에서 본 연구에서는 시멘트-콘크리트 산업의 탄소중립을 위한 폐콘크리트 미분말의 고부가가치 재활용 기술 및 상용화 동향에 대한 사례조사를 실시하였다. 폐콘크리트 미분말의 고부가가치 리싸이클을 위해서는 골재와 시멘트 페이스트의 완벽한 성분 분리가 필수적이며, 해외 주요국에서는 연구 개발 단계를 넘어 클링커의 원료 또는 시멘트의 혼합재로 사용하는 것에 대한 상용화 및 표준화가 진행 중이다. 따라서, 국내에서도 탄소중립의 관점에서 폐콘크리트의 재활용을 위한 연구 개발 및 표준화에 대한 논의가 시급하게 이루어져야 할 것이다.

벌크화물 수송실태 분석 (Analysis of bulk freight transportation)

  • Bulk freight is transported by a freight car, ship and tank lorry without packaging in a state of particles or powders. In korea, the main bulk freight include oil, grain, coal, cement, iron ore and these are occupied nearly 30% of the volume of gross domestic freight transportation. Therefore it is in important to transport efficient bulk freight transport system for the improvement of national distribution competitive as raw material for industry. Generally environment-friendly transfer modes such as railway and sea transport play an important role in bulk freight transport due to the mass transfer characteristics of bulk freight. This study is carried out for examining the problem of oil, grain, coal, cement, ore transportation through analyzing distribution flow of items and understanding characters of transfer modes.

  • Researches for the development of renewable energy as a fuel substitute for global warming and depletion of petroleum resources are actively being carried out. Among them, the annual growth rate of PV generation is 20.73%, which is higher than other renewable energy sources. However, the production of 1 ton of polysilicon, which is known as a raw material for solar power generation panels, generates 2 tons of waste. As the demand for PV panels increases, the problem of the treatment of polysilicon sludge is attracting attention, and studies on the utilization of polysilicon sludge are needed. Therefore, in this study, the applicability of polysilicon sludge treated as industrial waste to the lightweight panel for architectural purposes was examined.

폐콘크리트로부터 회수된 시멘트 페이스트 미분말의 시멘트 원료화 연구 (Manufacture of Ordinary Portland Cement Clinker Using Cement Paste of the Waste Concrete)

  • 건설폐기물 중 폐콘크리트를 40$0^{\circ}C$로 가열한 후 ball mill로 분쇄하여 재생골재를 생산할 때 발생된 미분말을 보통 포틀랜드 시멘트의 SiO$_2$, CaO, A1$_2$O$_3$원에 대한 대체원료물질로서 활용하고자 하였다. 클링커를 제조하기 위한 주원료는 석회석, shale, 전로슬래그, fly ash를 이용하였고, modulus는 LSF:91.0, SM:2.60, IM:1.60로 고정한 후 shale에 대해 미분말을 25, 50, 15, 100%까지 치환하여 클링커를 제조하였다. 클링커의 주요생성광물은 1,45$0^{\circ}C$에서 OPC와 같은 광물상인 $C_3$S, $\beta$-C$_2$S, $C_3$A, $C_4$AF 상으로 나타났다. 조합원료의 반응성을 비교하기 위해 시차열분석을 실시하고, 소성성지수를 구한 결과, 클링커의 광물상 생성온도는 plain과 유사했으며, 소성성지수는 48.6-51.4 정도로 나타났다.

  • 전 세계 적으로 이산화탄소 배출 저감을 위한 노력으로 시멘트 산업에서는 비소성 결합재인 석회석을 시멘트에 첨가하여 콘크리트를 제조하고 있다. 특히, 유럽에서는 석회석을 시멘트의 35%까지 치환하여 사용하기도 한다. 국내에서는 2013년에 KS L 5201을 개정하여 석회석을 보통 포틀랜드 시멘트에 5%까지 혼합하여 사용할 수 있도록 하였으며, 아직 석회석 혼합 시멘트에 대한 규격은 전무한 상태이다. 본 연구에서는 비소성 결합재인 석회석을 활용하여, 석회석 혼입량에 따른 콘크리트의 역학적 특성 및 내구특성에 대한 영향을 살펴보았다.
