  • The aim of this study is to developed water proofing properties of cement mortar this study the effect of mix proportion on the basic characteristics of cement mortar was investigated. Also water absorption and permeability properties of mortar using several admixtures were tested. from this results, Physical properties of mortar is improved by using the sand witch has a broad particle size distribution. Also the sililca alumina powder is effective for decreasing the water permeability of mortar and zinc stearate is in creasing the water repellence property.

  • In this study, we studied on the durability of restorative cement mortar for deteriorated concrete at complex deteriorated conditions as variation of temperature and of humidities. We made a comparison between restorative materials with insulation function and restorative materials without insulation function in items of compressive and bending strength and permeability of water, durability for carbonation, salt damage, diffusion coefficient of salt at complex deterioration conditions like change of temperature, change of humidity, For insulation, we used close-pore type Alumino-Silicate lightweight aggregate and substituted 12 wt% and 15 wt% out of original restorative cement mortar without insulation function. As a result, it was found that original restorative cement mortar without insulation function fail to meet Korean Standard on polymer modified cement mortar for maintenance in concrete structure, but restorative cement mortar with insulation function is in contentment Korean Standard to meet excellent than restorative materials without insulation function for durability at complex deteriorated conditions.

  • In this paper, setting and mechanical properties of cement mortar using retarding agents are investigated. According to the experimental results, as dosage of retarding agents increases, flow and ar content of mortar are shown to be higher. Flow loss of mortar using retarding type water reducing agents is larger than that using gluconic acid by 3 times. As for setting time it is found that mortar using gluconic acid takes much longer setting time than that using retarding type water reducing agent. In case of compressive strength, when retarding agent is applied, cement mortar gains high strength compared with that of plain mortar. However, we can not measure compressive strength of cement mortar contaning more than 0.6% of gluconic acid.

  • Osmotic pressure induced by semi-permeability of hardened cement pasts and cement mortar was studied, which was considered to be a cause of failure such as separation and blistering of floor coatings or wall coatings from the concrete substrate. The specimens with a water cement ratio of 45, 60 and 75% were installed between the solution of sodium chloride and distilled water. First, we measured water flux from distilled water to sodium chloride and the ion flux of Na+ and Cl- through the specimens. Then, we measured osmotic pressure induced by semi-permeability of the specimens using an apparatus which was specially developed for this study. It was made clear that hardened cement paste and cement mortar have properties of semipermeability, and the osmotic pressure is closely related to their water cement ratio. Finally, we calculated the osmotic pressure according to Staverman's equation, which was obtained for organic membranes, and tried to explain quantitatively the observed pressure.

  • This paper discusses a study of cement mortar reinforced with Graphene Oxide (GO) flakes carried out at the University of Plymouth. Over 60 specimens were prepared and tested to obtain the tensile, compressive and flexural strengths of cement mortar with/without 0.5% GO flakes by weight of cement. The dispersion of the GO flakes and the effect of the use of polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer (0.2% by weight of cement) on the material strength are discussed. Images of the particle sizes of GO are presented from the transmission electron microscopy analysis. In addition, the images from the field emission scanning electron microscope analysis are also presented to show the difference of the microscopic structure of cement mortar with/without GO. The results of the strength tests are presented. It is shown that the inclusion of the GO flakes in general led to positive results, which suggest that GO improved the tensile, compressive and flexural strengths of cement mortar.

  • Cement is the most widely used but generates a lot of CO2, so we need a material to replace it. Using industrial by-products such as Silica Fume(SF), Blast furnace Slag(BS) and Fly Ash(FA) bring some advantages including CO2 reduction and resource recycling. However, there is a limit to improve performance when using only one material. Therefore, the synergy effects of No cement binary mortar and ternary mortar were analyzed and compared. As a result, No cement ternary mortar had the strength higher than binary mortar. among ternary mortars, the specimen mixed 50% of BS had the highest strength. However, when SF was mixed by 20%, the flowability reduces. so 10% of SF, 40% of FA and 50% of BS is considered as the optimal mixing ratio.

  • Ground granulated blast-furnace slag shows very high strength when proper alkali-activator exists. This paper deals with setting time, heat evolution rate and the strength development of alkali-activated slag cement activated by KOH, Ca(OH$)_{2}$, $Na_{2}$ $So_{4}$ , and alum(potassium aluminum sulfate). Alkali-activated slag mortar is studied by comparison with GGBF slag cement mortar. The experimental results indicate that for moisture curing at $25^{\circ}C$, the addiction of either 4% $Na_{2}$ $So_{4}$ or 4% alum increases the strength of GGBF slag cement mortar consisting of 50% GGBF slag and 50% portland cement at early age. Strength of activated GGBF slag cement mortars at 1, 3 and 7 days exceeded that of GGBF slag cement mortar. A conduction calorimeter was used to monitor early age hydration.

  • Opens the construction market recently, the construction industry of Korea has faced up to the barrier of globalism, and has been enforced to follow the various global standards in many aspects. Accordingly, it is expected that the test method related to the cement and concrete will be changed to conform to the international standards in Korea. Therefore, in this study, the strength tests are executed for the cement mortars, made by KS and ISO standards respectively, and then obtains such results. 1) The flow of the cement mortar according to ISO is about 8% higher ,than that of KS. 2) The flexural strength of the cement mortar according to ISO is about 10~20% higher than that of KS, and the compressive strength is about 30% higher. 3) The compressive strength relation between the cement mortars of KS and ISO may be expressed in the first-order recurrence formula as follows: Y = 1.33X - 8 In which X is the compressive strength(kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$) of the mortar according to KS and Y is the compressive strength(kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$) of the mortar according to ISO.

  • Concrete has been used for many years as a composite material that has excellent mechanical properties and durability for construction. However, concrete is a poor electrical conductor, especially under dry conditions. Concrete that is excellent in both mechanical and electrical conductivity properties may have important applications in the electrical, electronic, military and construction industry(e.g. for de-icing road from snow). The purpose of this investigation is to improve the electrical conductive of cement mortar preparared with coke dust, graphite, carbon black and carbon fiber as filler. From the test result, as the content of electrically conductive material increased, fluidity and strength decreased but resistivity decreased. The resistivity of electrical conductive cement mortar is effect by water/cement, and aggregate. Cement mortar containing carbon fiber has the best electrical properties considering strength. From this study, it is enough to assure the use of carbon fiber, carbon black and graphite as a conductive filler for electrical conductive cement mortar.

  • Recently, the mortar crack on floor is very serious in construction field, e.g. the crack due to plastic shrinkage and the crack due to drying shrinkage. To prevent this kind of crack, optimum mix propertions not only satisfying the required workability but also minimizing the unit water content were selected. And the expansion admixtures were used to compensate the shrinkage of mortar. This study shows that water/cement ratio used in construction field is about 64%. Even if we reduce water/cement ratio of mortar by the appropriate use the fine aggregate with high fineness modulus and superplastizer, floor mortar can have the required workability. The equations between mortar flow and water/cement ratio, sand/cement ratio, fineness modulus of fine aggregate were proposed in this study. And this equation may provide available mix proportions of floor mortar.
