Different amounts of foaming agents were employed in natural rubber(NR)/butadiene rubber(BR) blends to understand the foaming behavior in presence of nano-reinforcing agent, zinc methacrylate (ZMA). The ZMA greatly improved most of the mechanical properties of the rubber foams, however it did not show considerable effect on the cell morphology, such as cell size, density and porosity. It was also observed that the foaming agent concentration affected all the mechanical parameters. When the content of foaming agent was increased, the number of foams was increased leading to a decrease in density of the compounds. But the size and distribution of foams remained unchanged with increased foaming agent. The effect of high styrene-butadiene rubber (HSBR) was also studied. The size of cells became smaller and the cell uniformity was improved with increasing HSBR. The foam rubber compounds showed much efficient energy absorbing capability at higher strains.
Gardenia callus was induced in MS medium containing $10{\;}{\mu}M$ of 2,4 diphenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D), $1{\;}{\mu}M$ kinetin, and 3% sucrose in the dark. $B_5$ medium was identified to be the most adequate medium for cell growth. Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) was better growth regulator than 2,4-D not only for cell growth but slso for carotenoid production. Ligt also played a critical role on synthesis of carotenoid. Gardenia cells grown in $B_5$ medium could utilize a polysaccharide, soluble starch, as a carbon source. The cell growth was stimulated in $B_5$ medium fortified with 0.2% yeast extract. The optimum pH for cell growth was 5.7. High density cultures can be maintained by increasing inoculum size and medium concentration accordingly. Specific growth rate and mass doubling time were 0.095 $day^{-1}$ and 7.3 days, respectively. The cell immobilized in alginate tends to formulate more enlarged vacuoles containing yellow pigment compared with those of suspended cell. Carotenoid content of immobilized cell was about $264.4{\;}{\mu}g/g$ fresh weight (F.W.) corresponding twice of the content of suspended cell ($112.08{\;}{\mu}g/g$ F.W.). The color of gardenia cell was shifted from yellow to red when carbohydrase-secreting fungus, Trichoderma reesei, was co-cultivated with gardenia cells.
Purpose: To investigate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase 3 (HIFPH3) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and explore the correlation of HIFPH3 expression with lymph node metastasis and microvessel density (MVD). Materials and Methods: A total of 73 cases of NSCLC specimens, 24 cases of para-cancerous tissues, and 20 normal pulmonary tissues were collected for HIFPH3 and CD31 immunohistochmical (IHC) study. Microvessel density (MVD) of the NSCLC tissues was also determined based on the expression of CD31. Results: The expression of HIFPH3 in carcinoma tissue was statistically higher than para-cancerous and normal pulmonary tissues (${\chi}^2=48.806$, p<0.05). Compared withthe negative lymph node metastasis group, the lymph node metastasis group showed significantly higher HIFPH3 expression (${\chi}^2=6.300$, p<0.05). The strong HIFPH3+group displayed a significantly higher MVD than weak HIFPH3+ and HIFPH3- groups (p<0.05). No differences in positive HIFPH3 expression were noted regarding the tumor diameter, age, smoking status, gender of NSCLC patients, tumor size, histopathology, or differentiation. Conclusions: HIFPH3 expression in human NSCLC lesions is significantly higher than that in para-cancerous and normal lung tissues and is positively associated with lymph node metastasis and MVD.
The production of exopolysaccharide from Zoogloea ramigera 115SLR in batch culture was affected by carbon sources, rifampicin concentration, inoculum size and cell density of starter culture. The increase of organic nitrogen concentration and cell density in defined medium by adding starter culture resulted in higher production of exopolysaccharide (EPS) within 2 days. Glucose and lactose as carbon sources showed EPS production of 10.7 gk and 10.5 ga, respectively. Higher EPS production was obtained with 2.5% (w/v) glucose. White sugar, brown sugar and galactose produced less than 10 gt of EPS. The optical density of starter culture affected on EPS yield, producing over 10 gt of EPS in the range of 1.0-1.7. In the presence of rifsmpicin, Z. ramigera 115SLR produced EPS of 12.9 gt. Molecular weight of EPS produced with/without rifampicin was determined with 1.367$\times$106 and 1.711$\times$106 g/mol using HPSEC-MALLS-RI, respectively.
Morphology of the gill in Lateolabrax japonicus was investigated after staining the gill, as a result, we found the gill is composed of gill raker, gill arch, gill filament and gill lamellae. The number of gill raker was 7~10 in the upper and 13~18 in the lower. Ultrastructure of the gill in Lateolabrax japonicus were examined by means of the light and transmission electron microscopes. The gill have primary filament and secondary filament (lamellae). The following cells are identified and described: pavement cell, pillar cell, blood cell, mucose cell and chloride cell etc. Simple epithelial layer consists of squamous epithelium contained large nucleus, intracellular organelles etc. and the surface is covered with some of microridges. The lamella pillar structures are characterized by the axial microtubules and lateral membrane interdigitations. The mucous cells were globular in shape, and had almost the mucous granules of same size with various electron density. Chloride cells contain a lot of mitochondria and specifically developed tubular systems.
A comparative study between 17 Japanese and 19 Indian patients with oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCCs) revealed that the tumour prognostic indicator mean vessel density (MVD) count for angiogenesis was relatively high at 57.1 in Indian as compared to 39.3 in Japanese (P=0.001) cases, whereas the lymph-vessel density (LVD) count for lymphangiogenesis was lower (12.8 vs 48.0, P=0.002). Both male and female Indians had higher MVD counts, but LVD counts were only slightly lower in females. MVD count was relatively high among the cases below 65 years old in both the countries (P=0.4). Japanese cases with Tongue cancer had higher MVD count, but the Indian cases had lower LVD counts. Size-wise, T2 and T3 had higher counts of MVD both in Indian and Japanese cases. MVD and LVD count was higher in grades II and III both in Japanese and Indian cases. There was insignificant difference of the MVD counts among smokers, but the tobacco chewers in Indian cases had higher counts of MVD and LVD (P value by Bartlett test 0.35, 0.57 respectively). The hot-spots of tumour sites had variable rates of lymphocyte infiltration showed higher MVD counts in all the cases. Although the clinical characteristics and demographic variables usually relate to MVD and LVD counts, the tendency of higher values, especially among tobacco chewers, identified as the highest risk group for occurrence of oral cancer needs to be investigated further.
Pore-size controlled porous carbons for the catalyst supports of the direct methanol fuel cell were prepared from the mesophase pitch by using the silica spheres with different sizes. Pitch solution in THF and spheres were mixed, carbonized and etched by 5 M NaOH to make porous carbon. Specific surface area of the porous carbons was $14.7{\sim}87.7m^2/g$ and average pore diameter was 50~550 nm which were dependent on the size of silica spheres. Aqueous reduction method was used to load 60 wt% PtRu on the prepared porous carbon supports. The electro-oxidation activity of the supported 60 wt% Pt-Ru catalysts was measured by cyclic voltammetry and unit cell test. For the 60 wt% Pt-Ru/porous carbon synthesized by 50 nm silica, current density value in the cyclic voltammetry test was $123mA/cm^2$ at 0.4 V and peak power density in the unit cell test were 105 and $162mW/cm^2$ under oxygen at 60 and $80^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Interest in polymer electrolyte fuel cell is growing to replace fossil fuels. In particular, in order to reduce the cost and volume of the fuel cell, research on a metallic bipolar plate is being actively conducted. In this research, investigated the effects of temperature and chloride concentration on the electrochemical characteristics and damage behavior of 316L stainless steel in an accelerated solution simulating the cathodic operating condition of PEMFC(Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell). As a result of the experiments, the corrosion current density, damage size, and surface roughness increased as the temperature and chloride concentration increased. In particular, the temperature had a significant effect on the stability of the oxide film of 316L stainless steel. In addition, it was described that the growth of the pit was affected by the chloride concentration rather than the temperature. As a result of calculating the corrosion tendency to compare the pitting corrosion rate and the uniform corrosion rate, the uniform corrosion tendency became larger as the temperature increased. And the effects of chloride concentration on corrosion tendency was different according to temperature.

A stack in the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) consists of bipolar plates, a membrane electrode assembly, a gas diffusion layer, a collector and end plates. High current density is usually obtainable partially from uniform temperature distribution in the fuel cell. A size optimization method considering the thermal expansion effect of stacked plates was developed on the basis of finite element analyses. The thermal stresses in end, bipolar, and cooling plates were calculated based on temperature distribution obtained from thermal analyses. Finally, the optimization method was applied and optimum thicknesses of the three plates were calculated considering both fastening bolt tension and thermal expansion of each unit cell (72 cells, 5kW). The optimum design considering both thermal and mechanical loads increases the thickness of an end plate by 0.64-0.83% the case considering only mechanical load. The effect can be enlarged if the number of stack increases as in an automotive application to 200-300 stacks.
