In this paper, we propose a new scheduling algorithm that guarantees the delay property of real-time traffic, not considered in previous DWRR(Dynamic Weighted Round Robin) algorithm and also transmits non-real-time traffic efficiently. The proposed scheduling algorithm is a variation of DWRR algorithm to guarantee the delay property of real-time traffic by adding cell transmission method based on delay priority. It also uses the threshold to prevent the cell loss of non-real-time traffic due to cell transmission method based on delay priority. Proposed scheduling algorithm may increase some complexity over conventional DWRR scheme because of cell transmission method based on delay priority. However, the consideration of delay priority can minimize cell delay and require less size of temporary buffer. Also, the results of our performance study shows that the proposed scheduling algorithm has better performance than conventional DWRR scheme due to reliable ABR service and congestion avoidance capacity.

An ATM switch is the basic component of an ATM network, and its functioning is to switch incoming cells arriving at an input port to the output port associated with an appropriate virtual path. In case of an ATM switch with buffer sharing scheme, the performance analysis is very difficult due to the interactions between the address queues. In this paper, the influences of the degree of traffic burstiness and some traffic routing properties are investigated by using the simulation. Also, some cell access strategies including priority access and cell dropping are compared in terms of cell loss probability.

In ATM network was two QOS bearer services for flexible bandwidth assignment, various priority assignment buffer access mechanisms have been sugested. In this paper, a performance model with 3 state discrete time Markov proess in explicit priority assignment is suggested and cell loss probability is analytically derived. Also flexible space priority control mechanism with partial buffer sharing is studied and verified by simulation with OPNET.

In general. requirements for QoS are different according to the type of services in wireline and wireless ATM, and real-time video service is more sensitive to cell transmission delay than to cell loss. Existing handoff schemes emphasizing prevention of cell loss had limitations in cell transmission delay to satisfy QoS. In this paper, a novel scheme to transmit ATM cells with low CLP (when CLP = 0) prior to others and discarding cells with high CLP (when CLP = 1) in ATM cell header among cells to be forwarded during handoffs in real-time VBR service is proposed. The proposed scheme is proven to be suitable for the satisfaction of QoS and appropriate for fast handoffs by giving high CLP value to less meaningful MPEG frames through simulations.

The next generation of wireless network will be problably developed as a mobile communications which will support ATM-based multiMedium traffic. We need to develop an dffective MAC protocol in order to support multimedia traffic having variety of QoS characteristics on wireless neteworks. In this paper, we propose a MAC protocol a MAC protocol where mobile terminals having cells to transmit, request slots to base station through requested slot then the base station analyze parameters from mobile and allocate slots to mobile according to priority. The multimedia slot allocation(MSA) protocol divides multimedias applications into real-time/ variant and non real-time services. Entire slots of the frameare partitioned proportionallyby sizeof bandwidth according to types of services, so that related services can use allocated-slots in priority. The proposed algorithm guarantees real time operation since real-time service share slots allocated for non real-real services. The algorithm whih divides slots of the frame is called as an Algorithm A, otherwise as an Algorithm B. The simulation compares by average delay time and cell loss probability between Algorithm and Algorithm B by increasing number of mobile terminal using the proposed MAC protocol. the simulation result for real-time services shows that average delay time and cell loss probability of Algorithm A is better than those of Algorithm B.

This paper describes the method that voice traffic is served efficiently in BISDN. Voice is divided into talkspurt and silent period, and it is possible to transmit olny talksurt by the speech activity detection. This paper described the voice traffic control algorithm in the ATM network where cell discarding method is applied to the embedded ADPCM voice data. For traffic control, the cell discarding was used over low priority cells when it overflows the queue threshold. To estimate the efficiency of traffic control algorithm, the computer simuation was performed with cell loss probability, queue length and mean delay as performance parameters. The embedded ADPCM voice coding and cell disscarding resulted in improving the voice cell traffic efficiency and the dynamic control over network congestion.

In this paper, we proposed a node architecture and cell routing strategies for ATM applications in WDM multihop networks. The proposed node architecture employs the optical delay loop for storing the cell which is failed in out-link contention. This optical delay loop allows the delay of one cell without the electro-optic conversion. Therefore, we can get the advantages of S&F(Store-and-Forward) routing in Deflection-based all-optical networks. To support the ATM applications efficiently. we considered the transmission priority of ATM cell so that high priority cell can be transmitted with lower loss and shorter delay than low priority one. Two kinds of routing strategies are designed for this architecture: Scheme-Ⅰand Scheme-Ⅱ. Scheme-Ⅰapplies S&F routing to high cell and Deflection routing to low cell, i.e., high cells are routed along the shortest path based on S&F routing, but low cells are deflected or lost. Schem-Ⅱ is similar to Scheme-Ⅰexcept that low cells can occupy the optical loop if it is available. This Scheme-Ⅱ increases the utilization of network resources without decreasing the throughput of high cell by reducing the low cell loss rate when traffic load is low. Simulation results show that our routing strategies have better performance than conventional ones under non-uniform traffic as well as uniform traffic.

This paper proposes a MAC protocol for real-time VBR (rt-VBR) services in wireless ATM networks. The proposed protocol is characterized by a contention-based mechanism of the reservation request, a contention-free polling scheme for transferring the dynamic parameters, and a priority scheme of the slot allocation. The design objective of the proposed protocol is to guarantee the real-time constraint of rt-VBR traffic. The scheduling algorithm uses a priority scheme based on the maximum cell transfer delay parameter. The wireless terminal establishes an rt-VBR connection to the base station with a contention-based scheme. The base station scheduler allocates a dynamic parameter minislot to the wireless terminal for transferring the residual lifetime and the number of requesting slots as the dynamic parameters. Based on the received dynamic parameters, the scheduler allocates the uplink slots to the wireless terminal with the most stringent delay requirement. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol can guarantee the delay constraint of rt-VBR services along with its cell loss rate significantly reduced.

In this paper, we present results of a study of congestion control for real-time communication based on ATM networks. In ATM networks, congestion usually results in cell loss. Based on the time limit and priority, the cells that compete for the same output line could be lined according to the character of real-time service. We adopt priority control algorithm for providing different QoS bearer services that can be implemented by using threshold methods at the ATM switching nodes, the cells of different deadline and priority could be deal with according to the necessity. Experiments show the proposed algorithm is effective in the congestion control of ATM real-time networks
