In this paper, we propose an enhanced usage parameter control algorithm, which is one of the preventive traffic control method in ATM networks and implemented it with VLSI Proposed algorithm is based on the cell loss priority bit in the ATM cell header. This algorithm can solve the measurement phasing problem in cell conformance testing in ATM networks. Proposed algorithm can minimize the cell loss ratio of high priority cell(CLP=0) and resolve the burstiness of cells which may be introduced in traffic multiplexing and demultiplexing procedure. The result of performance evaluation shows that the performance of proposed algorithm is better than that of ITU-T usage parameter control algorithm.
In this paper has studied an enhanced usage parameter control algorithm, which is one of the preventive traffic control method in ATM networks. The proposed algorithm is based on the CLP(Cell Loss Priority) bit in the ATM cell header. This algorithm can eliminate the measurement phasing problem in cell conformance testing in ATM networks. The proposed algorithm can minimize the cell loss ratio of high priority cell(CLP = 0) and resolve the burstiness of eel]s which may be generated in the multiplexing and demultiplexing procedure. For the performance evaluation, we have simulated the proposed algorithm with discrete time input traffic model and the results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of ITU-T usage parameter control algorithm.

ATM switch handles the traffic for a wide range of appliations with different QOS(Quality-of-Service) requirements. In ATM switch, the priority control mechanism is needed to improve effectively the required QOS requirements. In this paper, we propose a priority control mechanism using the cell transfer ratio type and discard threshold in order to archive the cell loss probability requirement and the delay requirement of each service class. The service classes of our concern are the service class with high time priority(class 1) and the service class with high loss priority control mechanism, cells for two kind of service classes are stored and processed within one buffer. In case cells are stored in the buffer, cells for class 2 are allocated in the stored and processed within one buffer. In case cells are stored in the buffer, cells for class 2 are allocated in the shole range of the buffer and cells for class 1 are allocated up to discard threshold of the buffer. In case cells in the buffer are transmitted, one cell for class 1 is transmitted whenever the maximum K cells for class 2 are transmitted consecutively. We analyze the time delay and the loss probability for each class of traffic using Markov chain. The results show that the characteristics of the mean cell delay about cells for class 1 becomes better and that of the cell loss probability about cells for class 2 becomes better by selecting properly discard threshold of the buffer and the cell transfer ratio according to the condition of input traffic.

Recently, some research has been done to analyze the asymptotic behavior of queue length distribution in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) multiplexer. In this paper, we relate this asymptotic behavior with the asymptotic behavior of decreasing cell loss probability when the buffer capacity is increased. We find with reasonable assumptions that the asymptotic rate of queue length distribution is the same as that of decreasing cell loss probability. Even under different priority control schemes and traffic classes, we find that this asymptotic rate of the individual cell loss probability of each traffic class does not change. As a consequence, we propose the upper bound of cell loss probability of each traffic class when a priority control scheme is employed. This bound is computationally feasible in a real-time. The numerical examples will be provided to validate this finding.

In this paper, we propose the enhanced priority control algorithm that adaptively controls the cell service ratio according to the relative cell occupancy ratio of buffer. The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) provides the means to support various multimedia services in broadband networks. To support multimedia services, various data traffics of different priorities should be controlled effectively. And also it needs congestion control functions required in the netowrk to carry out the control operation. To accomplish this in a flexible and effective manner, priority classes for the different services ar ecommonly used. The proposed enhanced priority control mechanism have two service calsses of the delay sensitive class and the loss sensitive class. The simulation results show that te proposed control mechanism improves the QoS, the charateristics of cell loss probability and mean cell delay time, by selecting propeor relativ ecell occupancy ratio of buffer and the average arrival rate.

With the improvement of information telecommunication technology, the various service in broadband integrated services digital networks have a wide range of delay, delay jitter and cell loss probability requirements according to traffic specification. Therefore, the design of appropriate control schemes that can satisfy the cell loss, delay requirements with various traffic specification for B-ISDN is an extremely important challenging problem. In this paper, we propose a priority control scheme using a window counter and a cell counter per each type of class. In the proposed priority control scheme, for satisfying required service quality, we performed the priority control scheme using the delay/loss factors obtained by comparing window counter with cell counter. The performance of proposed control scheme is estimated by computer simulation. In the results of simulation, we verified that the proposed method satisfied per class requirements as the results showed that cell loss probability has a order of video, data, voice and delay time has a order of video, voice and data.

In this work, the performance of both delay sensitive traffics and loss sensitive traffics of the output buffered ATM switch with priority control mechanisms has been evaluated. We choose the partial buffer sharing mechanism as the loss priority control mechanism and the HOL(Head Of Line) priority control mechanism as the time priority control mechanism. We model loss sensitive traffics with Poisson process and delay sensitive traffics with MMPP. With loss priority control, it is confirmed that loss probability of loss sensitive traffice decreases when the loss priority control mechanism is chosen. With time priority control, it has also been confirmed that mean cell delay of delay sensitive traffics decreases when the HOL priority control mechanism is used. From this analysis, It has been confirmed that the requirements of QOS for both loss sensitive and delay sensitive traffics can be satisfied in the ATM switch by combining both the loss priority control mechanism and the HOL priority control mechanism.
In this paper, we propose a new cell discarding and scheduling scheme which reduce cell loss rate by measuring, in real time, the number of discarded cells in the queuing system with a different loss priority for each class of service such that each class of service meets its cell loss rate requirements and reduce average delay rate for the traffic that is sensitive in cell delay in output buffer of the ATM switch. Throughout the computer simulation, the existing scheduling scheme and proposed scheme are compared with respect to cell loss rate and average delay time.

The various services that a broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN) carries, have a wide range of delay, delay jitter and cell loss probability requirements. Design of appropriate control schemes for B-ISDN is an extremely important and challenging problem. In this paper, we proposed multiplexing algorithm with both delay and loss priorities in order to satisfy the diverse requirements. For the implementation of cell lose priority, we assumed that voice cells are generated as non-discardable(i.e., high priority) and discardable (i.e., low priotity)cells. The low priority voice cell may be discarded inside the network if congestion occurs. The cell dropping scheme is shown to reduce cell losses as well as delays for both voice and data. Such a load shedding scheme is expected to improve significantly utilization of B-ISDN.

The PBS(Partial Buffer Sharing) space priority mechanism is one of priority control methods which may improve the performance of a single server queueing system when mixed traffic with different performance requirements is applied to the system. This paper analyzes the cell loss behavior of PBS assuming loss sensitive traffic and delay sensitive traffic are applied to the system. To derive the successive cell loss probabilities. which are an important performance measure of realtime traffic, we develop a recursive algorithm. Performance results show the successive cell loss probabilities obtained by our method are lager than the probabilities derived from an independent cell loss assumption. These results may indicate the limitation of PBS for realtime traffic and the increase of the admissible load with the criterion of quality of service.
