  • The fundamental characteristics of the cavity-backed slot antenna at 2.45 GHz are analyzed with the method of moment for the use of a part of rectenna element. The proposed antenna has a rectangular-narrow slot on the upper surface and a feed post and a parasitic post inside of the cavity. The interior posts are perpendicular to the slot surface in order that the microwave circuits can be attached to the bottom of the cavity. Theoretical results shows that the maximum return loss of 50 dB at the input terminal of the antenna is achieved.

  • This paper presents the basic characteristics of a cutoff cavity-hacked slot antenna, for the application of spacetenna, with a feed post and a parasitic post inserted parallel to the slot. This type of antenna might effectively excite the slot and forcibly resonate the cavity by adding external reactance to the parasitic post. The Galerkin\`s method of moments is used to analyze integral equations for the unknown electric current on each post and electric field in the slot. The value of external reactance for forced resonance is discussed by deriving a determining equation, the current distribution on each post and the radiation patterns are considered. The analysis is in excellent agreement with the experiment for the radiation patterns.

  • A single-feed composite cavity-backed four-arm curl antenna is presented for use in global positioning systems (GPS). Its primary radiating element is fed by a vacant-quarter printed ring, which helps the antenna directly match to a $50-{\Omega}$ coaxial line and produce a good circular polarization (CP). The cavity-backed reflector is employed to improve the CP radiation characteristics in terms of 3-dB axial ratio (AR) beamwidth and minimum AR value. The optimized design with an overall size of $90{\times}90{\times}25mm^3$ ($0.4725{\lambda}_o{\times}0.4725{\lambda}_o{\times}0.13{\lambda}_o$ at 1,575 MHz) results in a ${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}<-10dB$ bandwidth of 8.66% (1,514-1,651 MHz) and a 3-dB AR bandwidth of 2.23% (1,555-1,590 MHz). The antenna radiates a widebeam right-hand circular polarization and operates with a measured radiation efficiency greater than 90% within its impedance matching bandwidth.

  • This paper presents the assessment of input impedance of a sectoral cylindrical cavity-backed slot antenna excited by a probe. This antenna is proposed to be an element of array that can be assembled to be the antenna for UHF TV broadcasting system. The integral equations are derived based on boundary conditions of the proposed structure and are expressed in terms of dyadic Green's functions and unknown currents. The unknown current densities are solved by the Method of Moments and the input impedance is derived subsequently. Numerical results show the variation of input impedance, for the specified dimensions of the antenna, as a function of frequency. This result is validated by measurement and found that the result is sufficiently accurate. The result from this study is useful for the design of a sectoral cylindrical cavity-backed slot antenna excited by a probe.

  • This paper presents analysis of a slot array antenna having a low side lobe level and high front-to-back ratio for a repeater system of a satellite DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) service. Antennas for this repeater system require a high gain and enough isolation to reduce interferences between signals in system. Therefore, it is necessary to suppress a side lobe level and to increase front-to-back ratio. Unlike a structure 134 by lossy microstrip lines, in this work a single cavity-backed slot antenna array using a single waveguide feed is proposed to obtain the reliability for high power handling and high radiation efficiency. The side lobe level and front-to-back ratio are enhanced with tapered array technique and an optimized vertical reflector. The measured side lobe levels in H- and E-plane are under $-33.24\;\cal{dB}$ and $-35.78\;\cal{dB}$, respectively. The front-to-back ratio over $37.84\;\cal{dB}$, and the peak gain of over $17\;\cal{dBi}$ are measured.

  • In this paper, a phase comparison direction finding method of circular array composed of 8 antennas considering polarization characteristics is analyzed. A broadband cavity-backed patch antenna operating in 6 ~ 12 GHz is used, and the antennas are arranged in radial direction to receive various polarization signals. For the phase comparison, widely spaced elements are used to obtain precise DOA(Direction of Arrival), and narrowly spaced elements are used to resolve ambiguity. Two dimensional direction finding is performed for ±20° in both azimuth and elevation, and the DOA error is less than 0.5° and 1.6° near the boresight and the ±15° region, respectively.

  • This paper presents the design and fabrication of a cost effective and broad band 8$\times$8 stacked patch array antenna which are backed by a metal cavity operating at 400Hz based on 4 layers LTCC technology. Gain of antenna can be enhanced by using a metal cavity, which can be easily implemented by using LTCC substrates and vias. The broadband performance can be obtained by varying the dimension of patch and the number of layers. Furthermore, to keep the feeding network as smal1 as possible and reduce radiation from feeding network a mirrored patch orientation and embedded micro strip line are adopted, The fabricated antenna is $40\times45\times0.4$ $mm^3$in size. It shows gain 20.4dBi, beam width 10.7deg and impedance bandwidth of l0dE return loss 3.35GHz (40.9$\sim$44.25 GHz), which is about 8% of a center frequency.

  • In this paper, we analyze the antenna performance changes caused by the aircraft structure, diffraction and reflection, when the direction finding antenna used in the aircraft is mounted on the aircraft. Direction finding antenna is an antenna that receives radar threat signal in the direction finding device of aircraft electronic warfare system. Recently, because various antenna are mounted on an aircraft, various analyzes such as antenna performance and interference analysis are required. Therefore, the electromagnetic analysis was carried out by installing a broadband direction finding antenna with 50% bandwidth on simulated aircraft, and the direction finding performance was analyzed by comparing the single antenna performance with the performance mounted on the aircraft. The analyzed direction finding accuracy was $6.47^{\circ}$ RMS and predicted to be suitable as an antenna for aircraft direction finding antenna.
