  • In this study, a novel sensor system for measuring the temperature inside an oral cavity is proposed. With this aim, a small size of thermistor was used for resolving the cavity's temperature with the resolution of $0.1^{\circ}C$. To evaluate effectiveness of our sensor system, the temperature and its output voltage characteristic, and the specifications of response are investigated. It turned out to be that our sensor system has a linear property in terms of temperature variations for a healthy subject's body temperature range and has a good response time within 3 seconds. Also, in order to investigate the medical application, our sensor system is sought to measure the real temperature variations of a subject's oral cavity and ark shell especially for 'before' and 'after' exercise mode.

  • The scaled water-cooled Reactor Cavity Cooling System (RCCS) experimental facility reproduces a passive safety feature to be implemented in Generation IV nuclear reactors. It keeps the reactor cavity and other internal structures in operational conditions by removing heat leakage from the reactor pressure vessel. The present work uses Flownex one-dimensional thermal-fluid code to model the facility and predict the experimental thermal-hydraulic behavior. Two representative steady-state cases defined by the bulk volumetric flow rate are simulated (Re = 2,409 and Re = 11,524). Results of the cavity outlet temperature, risers' temperature profile, and volumetric flow split in the cooling panel are also compared with the experimental data and RELAP system code simulations. The comparisons are in reasonable agreement with the previous studies, demonstrating the ability of Flownex to simulate the RCCS behavior. It is found that the low Re case of 2,409, temperature and flow split are evenly distributed across the risers. On the contrary, there's an asymmetry trend in both temperature and flow split distributions for the high Re case of 11,524.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate temperature change occurred in enamel, dentin and pulp due to the heat from cavity prepration with laser. We made three models had different cavity depth: cavity depth of model A was 3.52mm, model B was 2.32mm, model C was 1.16mm. We irradiated cavity base with thermal capacity of $30J,100J,300J/cm^2s$ during few seconds and studied the change of temperature in tooth during 10 seconds, and estimated change of thermal capacity by different irradiated site and exposure time. At $300J/cm^2$ irradiation for 2 seconds, the temperature of irradiated surface was elevated fast according to irradiated thermal energy during 1 second. In proportion to continuous exposure time, temperature elevated slowly. The surface temperature was $1370^{\circ}C$. After discontinue of thermal irradiation, the heat of irradiated surface was diffused in dentin and pulp and the greatest temperature was made. The greatest temperature was disappeared within 10 seconds The greatest temperature of the inner part of model brought about very severe change by different depth. Temperature in pulp was raised by the greater irradiated energy density and exposure time.

  • Supercavitation is a phenomenon in which the cavity covers the entire underwater vehicle. The purpose of this paper is to compare and analyze the thermal effect on the cavity characteristics by changing the ventilated gas temperature through computational analysis. For this study, a homogeneous mixture model based on the 3D Navier-Stokes equation was used. As a phase change model, it is its own code considering both pressure change and temperature change. A dimensionless number Tm was presented to analyze the numerical results, and as the Tm increased, the cavity length increased by about 3.6 times and the cavity width by about 3.3 times at 393.15 K compared to room temperature. Analyzing these thermal effects, it was confirmed that rapid heat exchange and heat transfer between the gas phase and the liquid phase occurred at the location where the ventilated gas was sprayed, affecting the cavity characteristics. In addition, it can be confirmed that the initial cavity surface becomes unstable as the ventilated gas temperature increases, and it can be confirmed based on the numerical analysis results that the critical temperature at which the cavity surface becomes unstable is 373.15 K.

  • This study is for the stable optical source in order to get the precision measurement, which contributes to help the laser frequency and the output to be settled. The laser optical frequency is changed by the length of resonance cavity. The length variation of the laser resonance amplitude is affected by the thermal expansion of that system. So, we try not only to adjust the temperature of the laser tube using the heater for fine length of resonance cavity, but also to maintain the fixed temperature of the resonance cavity for outputting the safe laser optical frequency. Therefore, we must take materials with the thermal expansion of the supporting system, which is closer to it of the laser resonance cavity. Using the materials, we can promote to stabilize the temperature of it. In advance, we also plan to get the settlement of the laser frequency and the output in the long km, optimizing and stabilizing the system.

  • In this research, the tensile strength of molded parts and pressure distribution were analyzed to study the cavity filling stage and packing stage in injection molding. The measurement of cavity pressure was obtained by a data acquisition system with the installation of transducers in the cavity. Molded parts were tested by a universal testing machine to obtain the tensile strength. For the experimental work, the tensile strength of molded parts increased with longer packing time and exact freezing time of the gate was obtained by a cavity pressure curve. In addition, the effect of packing did not occur and tensile strength was almost constant after early 1.5 sec of the freezing time of gate. Density tended to be higher about 0.2% due to a larger degree of mold temperature and melt temperature. Also, changing pressure in the cavity was effectively sensed. Thereafter, the possibility of the development of pattern recognition expert system was confirmed on the basis of the experimental results.

  • High temperature dielectric constants of the various ceramic materials have been measured using cavity perturbation method. The measurements were applied to refractory, traditional and fine ceramic powder compacts from room temperature to $1200^{\circ}C$. Calibration constant in the equation suggested by Hutcheon et al., was determined from the dielectric constants of reference specimen (teflon and alumina) at room temperature. From these results, informations on the refectory materials were obtained for the microwave kiln design and understanding of the microwave heating effects of ceramics have been improved.

  • An experimental study on the stratified fluids with water and silicon oil of same volume in the cavity with upper cooling surface was carried out to investigate the flow characteristics, heat transfer through the interface of fluids, and the applications of thermal behaviors in a square cavity. The experiments were performed with variation of initial temperature and cooling surface temperature. The temperature drop of oil was faster than that of water and freezing was initiated from the interface of oil and water and propagated downward. For the water above $4^{\circ}C$, the cooling rate was faster than that below $4^{\circ}C$ and showed almost same temperature distribution but for the water that of below $4^{\circ}C$, it showed the stable stratified temperature distribution. The lower the initial temperature and the higher the cooling surface temperature was, the longer the supercooling duration.

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to minimize filling imbalance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalances have sometimes been observed. These filling imbalances have historically been considered as result of uneven mold temperature and mold deflection, but it actually results from non-symmetrically shear, pressure, temperature distribution within melt material as it flows through the runner system. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions that are related to shear, pressure, temperature such as injection rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted using Taguchi method to determine which processing condition influence as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system. As a result of experiments, this paper could present an optimal processing condition to minimize variable that brings about filling imbalance geometrically balanced runner system

  • Hyperthermia is a form of cancer treatment in which affected human tissue is exposed to $>40^{\circ}C$ temperature. In this paper, our goal is to assess the efficacy of fullerene agents to reduce heating time for cancer treatment. Such agents can accelerate heating of cancer cells and improve hyperthermia treatment efficacy. Typically, in vitro testing involves cancer cell culturing, heating cell cultures in accordance to specifications, and recording cancer cell viability after hyperthermia. To heat cell cultures, we design and evaluate a 2.4-GHz microwave cavity with controllable temperature. The cavity is comprised of a polystyrene cell culture dish (diameter = 54 mm, height = 13.5 mm) and a printed monopole antenna placed within the cavity for microwave heating. The culture temperature can be controlled through the intensity and duration of the antenna's microwave radiation. Heating experiments were carried out to validate the cavity's performance for F-12K culture medium (Kaighn's F-12K medium, ATCC). Importantly, fullerene agents were shown to reduce heating time and improve hyperthermia treatment efficacy. The culture medium temperature increased, on average, from $24.0^{\circ}C$ to $50.9^{\circ}C$ (without fullerene) and from $24.0^{\circ}C$ to $56.8^{\circ}C$ (with 3 mg/mL fullerene) within 15 minutes.
