  • Various MEMS accelerometers are used in engineering applications including automobiles, mobile phones, military systems, and electronic devices. Among them, the thermal accelerometer employing the temperature difference induced by the convective flow inside the micro cavity has been a topic of interest. As the convective sensor does not utilize a solid proof mass, it is compact, lightweight, inexpensive to manufacture, sensitive and highly endurable to mechanical shock. However, the complexity of the convective flow and various design constraints make optimization of a device a crucial step before fabrication. In this work, optimization of a 2-axis thermal convective MEMS accelerometer is conducted based on 3-dimensional numerical simulation. Parametric studies are performed by varying the several design variables such as the heater shape/size, the cavity size and types of the gas medium and the position of temperature probes in the sensor. The results of optimal design are presented.

  • 질량분석기가 장착된 초고진공챔버를 사용하여 미소체적을 갖는 평판표시소자용 패널내부에 존재하는 잔류가스의 전체압력과 분압을 성공적으로 측정하였다. 패널내부의 전체압력은 $10^{-6}$Torr범위로 측정되었으며, 전체압력의 증가에 크게 기여하는 가스분압은 아르곤, 메탄 및 헬륨 분압들이었다. 패널의 진공패키징을 위한 배기공정시 가열온도는 고진공패키징에 있어서 매우 중요하며, 가열배기 온도가 높을수록 전체압력과 메탄분압은 감소하였다.

  • In the present study a numerical simulation is performed on a natural convection inside a square cavity with a vibrating bottom wall. The heat transfer coeffcients for various amplitudes of the bottom wall vibration were compared to the case without the bottom wall excitation. From the results, it is seen that the local temperature distribution in a cavity becomes more uniform as the amplitude of the bottom wall vibration is increased. Also, it was seen that the heat transfer coefficient increased on the heating wall as the applied amplitude increased.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of swirl combustion chamber diesel engine by changing the jet passage area and its angle, the depth and shape of the piston top cavity(main chamber). The performance of diesel engine with newly changed swirl combustion chamber was tested through the experimental conditions as engine speed, load and injection timing etc. The test results were compared and analyzed. The rate of fuel consumption was affected significantly by the jet passage area at the high speed and load, by the depth of the piston top cavity at the low speed and load. The exhaust smoke density and exhaust gas temperature depended sensitively on variation of the injection timing rather than the shape of the combustion chamber within the experimental conditions.

  • A study on swirl chamber for diesel engine is to realize lower fuel consumption and exhaust emission than the current marketing engines. Author formerly reported the performance characteristics of small IDI diesel engine with swirl chamber by changing the jet passage area and its angle, and the depth and shape of the piston top cavity. Following after the first report, in this paper, the characteristics of fuel consumption, soot emission, and exhaust gas temperature were examined and analyzed after dimension of jet passage area expanded to $70.1mm^2$ The results were that the optimum values of the jet passage area depending on the depth of the piston top cavity were different at each engine speeds and loads, and in accordance with application of engine running conditions they were able to be selected as optimum dimensions of each design parameters.

캐비티 내 고 점성유체의 비정상 흔합대류에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical Study of Unsteady Mixed Convection in a Cavity with High Viscous Fluid)

  • A numerical study of unsteady mixed convection in a cavity with high viscous fluid is presented. Finite volume method was employed for the discretization and PISO algorithm was used for calculating pressure term. The parameters governing the problem are the Rayleigh number ($10^3\;{\leq}\;Ra\;{\leq}\;10^5$), the Reynolds number (0 < Re $\leq$ 1), and the aspect ratio (0.5 $\leq$ AR $\leq$ 2). The fluid used is silicon oil, a high prandtl number fluid, Pr = 909.1. The results show velocity vectors and temperature distributions. It is found that the periodic flows in a cavity are observed at very low Reynolds numbers, and the period of periodic flow decreases with increasing Reynolds and Rayleigh numbers, and increases with increasing aspect ratio. Also, the Reynolds number range of periodic flow increases with increasing Rayleigh numbers and aspect ratio.

상부채널을 갖는 사각공간에서 열유속 변화에 따른 공기대류의 속도와 온도 가시화 (Velocity and temperature Visualization of Air Convection in Differently Heated Rectangular Cavity with Upper channel)

  • An experimental study was carried out in a cavity with upper channel and square heat surface by visualization equipment with Mach-Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. The visualization system consists of 2-dimensional sheet light by Argon-Ion Laser with cylindrical lens and flow picture recording system. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system(CACTUS'2000). Obtained result showed various flow patterns. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet flow is collided with the counter-clockwise rotating main primary vortex. Photographs of Mach-Zehnder are also compared in terms of constant heat flux.

  • Ca-Zr이 치환된 YIG산화물 자성체의 유효 선폭이 마이코로파 진동수 9.43 GHz에서 공동공진기의 섭동법에 의해 측정되었다. 실험장치는 network analyzer, 전자석, 공동 공진기로 구성되었으며, 시편이 삽입된 공진기에서 정자기장의 변화에 따른 공명진동수와 품질인자의 측정치로부터 계산된 마이크로파 자기감수율 텐서의 대각성분에 의해 분석되었다. 유효 선폭은 균일 모드와 스핀파가 축퇴되는 영역에서 급격한 손실을 보이며, 축퇴영역 밖에서도 비교적 큰 손실을 보이고 있다.

  • According to industrial development, Ingots are more large and various. In particular large STS ingot. The probability of shrinkage cavity occurrence is higher than carbon steel and alloy steel. To manufacture ultra clean steel the technical development is nearly necessary for example controlling inclusions and total [H]. In this study, after measured the mold temperature and adjusted thermo conductivity of STS steel and compared existing mold to new one with CAE. As a result, the new mold more reduced than existing mold for the probability of shrinkage cavity occurrence.
