In this study, Sulfonated PONF-g-styrene ion exchange fibers were synthesized by radiation induced graft copolymerization. And also, hybride ion exchange fibers, which was combined sulfonated PONF-g-styrene fibers and cationic ion exchange resin, were fabricated by hot melt adhesion method and then their adsorption properties were investigated. ion exchange capacity and water content of hybrid ion exchange fibers increased as compared with those of bead and ion exchange fiber. Their maximum values were 4.76 meq/g and 23.5%, respectively. Adsorption breakthrough time for mercury of hybrid ion exchange fiber was slower than those of bead resin and fibrous ion exchanger. It's value was 130 minutes. Their breakthrough time become short as increasing of pH, and concentration. The initial breakthrough time was observed before and after 10 minutes as increasing of concentration. The adsorption of hybrid ion exchange fibers for $Hg^{2+}\;Pb^{2+},\;Cd^{2+}$ among heavy metals in the mixed solution was observed before 20 min. And also, The adsorption for $Hg^{2+}$ among the heavy metals by hybride ion exchange fibers was observed.

Perchlorate ($ClO{_4}^-$) is the material that is used as propellants of rockets and material of explosive as a form of ammonium perchlorate salts. Ammonium perchlorate solution of high concentration is recovered from expired rocket through demilitarization process by the water-jet method. If people take perchlorate in food and water, it interferes with adsorption of iodide which is the substance needed to synthesize thyroid hormone in the thyroid gland. It has an bad influence upon disturbing pregnancy and synthesis of growth hormone. So the effective method is necessary to remove perchlorate anion in water. By considering economic aspect, we studied effective desorption (regeneration) of perchlorate anion from adsorbent with studies on removal and adsorption of perchlorate anion. Desorption experiment was conducted as batch type. Depending on various conditions (concentration, pH, cation anion form) elution, we evaluated amount, efficiency of desorption(amount of adsorption/desorption ${\times}$ 100). Also, research confirmed the efficiency of mixed resins between anion exchange resin and activated carbon and expected synergic effect from advantages of both adsorbents.
The elution characteristics of rare earth elements in $NH^{4+}$ form cation exchange resin had been investigated. Elution were performed varing the loading amount, column diameter, column length and eluent pH. Analysing the chemical species contained in each effluent, elution mechanisms of rare earth elements and the separation of rare earth elements in monazite could be understood. The resolution values of adjacent rare earth elements were improved increasing rare earths adsorption amount wfith the same column within it's exchange capacity. With $NH^{4+}$ resin form, column length does not affect on the resolution values and retention time of rare earth elements and the rare earth-EDTA complex were not adsorbed on $NH^{4+}$ resin form. pH of eluent affected on the reactivities between rare earth elements and EDTA. Decreasing eluent pH, resolution values of adjacent rare earth elements were increased while increasing elution time.
Glutamic acid can be crystallized inside cation exchange column when displacer NaOH concentration is high enough to concentrate displaced glutamic acid beyond its solubility limit. Resulting crystal layer of glutamic acid was moved with liquid phase through the column, and thus could be eluted from the column and recovered in fraction collector. For the purpose of enhancing crystal recovery, effects of operating parameters on the crystal formation were investigated. The increase in the degree of crosslinking of resin favored crystal recovery because of its low degree of swelling. Higher concentration of displacer NaOH was advantageous. If NaOH concentration is too high, however, crystal recovery was lowered due to the solubility-enhancing effects of high pH and ionic strength. The decrease of mobile phase flow rate enhanced crystal recovery because enough time to attain local equilibrium could be provided, but film diffusion would control the overall crystal formation with extremely low flow rate. Lower temperature reduced solubility of glutamic acid and thus favored crystal formation unless the rate of ion exchange was severely reduced. The ion exchange operated by displacement mode coupled with crystallization was advantageous in reducing the burden of further purification steps and in preventing purity-loss resulted from overlapping between adjacent bands.
In order to improve the physical properties of food such as texture and food self-life. Transglutaminase(mTG) from Streptoverticillum morbarense was prepared. In the preliminary experiments, presence of proteases in the crude enzyme did not improve the texture of dough, which mean the inteference of mTG reaction by the proteases. Among the cation exchange resins tested for the removal of proteases, Monoplus S 100(Bayer, Germany) was the most efficient resin with 20 fold increase in the mTG/protease activity ratio. By further purification steps with a quaternary ammonia salt resin and a gel permeation chromatography, proteases were effectively removed from the preparation. Therefore, the improvement of flour texture was shown by adding the protease-free mTG.
Solutions of $Ni^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$ were mixed with the solutions of various dibasic organic acids in the presence of cation exchange resin at room temperature. The distribution ratios of the metal ions between resin and solution were measured, using radioactive metal ions as tracer. From the observed variation of the distribution ratios with acid anion concentrations, it was concluded that $Ni^{2+}$ and $Cd^{2+}$ formed one-to-one complexes with succinate, malonate, o-phthalate and tartarate ions in aqueous, 20 % ethanol-water and 20 % acetone-water solutions. The results of the present study indicated that the relative stabilities of the complexes in solution increased generally in the order : $Ni^{2+}$ < $Cd^{2+}$ complexes. Succinate < malonate < o-phthalate < tartarate complexes. Aqueous < mixed solvent systems.
Solutions of $Cd^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$ and $Ni^{2+}$ were mixed with the solutions of hydroxycarboxylic acids such as salicylic, lactic and mandelic acids in the presence of cation exchange resin at room temperature. The distribution ratios of the metal ions between resin and solution were measured, using radioactive metal ions as tracer. From the observed variation of the distribution ratios with the acid anion concentrations, it was concluded that $Cd^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$ and $Ni^{2+}$ formed the one-to-one complexes with salicylate, lactate and mandelate ions in aqueous, 20 % ethanol-water and 20 % acetone-water solutions. The results of the present study indicated that the relative stabilities of the metal-acid complexes in solution increased in the order: $Cd^{2+}$ <$Co^{2+}$ <$Ni^{2+}$ complexes. Salicylate

Heterogeneous cation exchange membrane(HCEM) was prepared with LLDPE(Linear Low Density Poly-ethylene) as binder, powdered cation exchange resins($diameter{\leq}149{\mu}m$) as ion-exchange material and glycerol as additive for electrodialysis and electrodeionization system. The weight ratio of (binder/ion exchange)/glycerol was (60%/40%)/5%, (55%/45%)/5%, (50%/50%)/5% and (40%/60%)/5%. The characterization of prepared HCEM was evaluated on mechanical, electrochemical, morphology and ion permeable properties. It was compared with commercial membrane. Electrochemical properties of HCEM of (50%/50% )/5% were very similar to value of IONPURE(commercial membrane), in which ion exchange capacity, ion transfer number and membrane resistance were to be 1.733meq/g, 0.96 and $16.08{\Omega}/cm^2$, respectively. Ion permeability of the membrane was better than that of IONPURE membrane. Compared with IONPURE membrane, the HCEM had a higher tensile strength and lower elongation and modulus, in which HCEM had tensile strength of $62.33kg/cm^2$, elongation of 87.42% and modulus of $658.53kg/cm^2$. The HCEM of (50%/50% )15% was optimum combination.

Fenton's Reagent is applied to directly dissolve the cation-exchange resin, IRN-77. The characteristics of the experimental procedure is to dry the resin first and $FeSO_4$ solution is completely absorbed into the resin, and then $H_2O_2$ is introduced later for an effective reaction between the reagents within the resin. An a characteristic of the dissolution, the lag time is needed for about 1 hour until the main reaction is occurred, which was more affected with the less concentration of $FeSO_4$ and the less initial dose of $H_2O_2$. The dose of $H_2O_2$ was equally divided into the early stage and the later stage after the initial reaction to provide an effective and safe reaction condition. The optimum conditions is appeared that the concentration of $FeSO_4$ is 0.9M and the dose of 15% $H_2O_2$ solution is 6-7 volume for the dissolution of unit weight of IRN-77. The effect of the heating on the lag time was checked and the time could be reduced within 5 minutes at $50^{\circ}C$, which is a relatively low temperature. The large amount of the resin, 5g and 10g, was also completely decomposed by increasing the dose of $H_2O_2$ to 9-10 volume ratio.
In this study, heterogeneous ion exchange membranes were prepared by mixing cation or anion exchange resins and commercial polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for MCDI process. The mixing ratios of PVDF and ion exchange resins were 1 : 1, 1.4 : 1, 2 : 1, and 3 : 1. We characterized SEM, water content, ion exchange capacity, methanol permeability, and ion conductivity. In the viewpoint of membrane characterization, the blending ratio of 2 : 1 showed the best. For the blending ratio of 2 : 1, heterogeneous cation exchange membrane showed the water content 34%, ion exchange capacity 1.54 meq/g, ion conductivity 0.019 S/cm, and methanol permeability $2.28{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}8.86{\times}10^{-7}cm^2/s$ while In the case of heterogeneous anion exchange membrane, the result showed 37%, 2.18 meq/g, and 0.034 S/cm and $1.46{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}8.66{\times}10^{-7}cm^2/s$.
