  • Carbon nanotube films were fabricated by the catalytic CVD method. Plasma processed time effects on the field emission property were studied. The atomic structure was observed by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface composition changes were observed on the plasma processed CNT films. The O1s/C1s signal ratio and the Fls/Cls signal ratio changed from 1.1 % to 24.65 % and from 0 % to 3.1 % with plasma process time, respectively. We could guess it from these results that the Ar plasma process could change the surface composition effectively. In the case of the original-CNT film, no carbon shift was observed. In the case of the Ar plasma processed CNT films, however the oxygen related carbon shifts were observed. This oxygen related carbon shift at higher binding energy implies the increment of amount of the oxygen. It's possible that the increment of these bonds between carbon and oxygen results in the improvement of field emission performance.

  • Foam-type MFI zeolite catalyst was prepared by dispersing fine ($-0.2{\mu}m$) particles of MFI zeolite on silicalite foam. Catalytic cracking of n-octane was investigated over the foam-type catalyst and Delplot method was employed to interpret product compositions for deducing reaction mechanism. The Si/Al molar ratio of dispersed MFI zeolite was estimated 25 and its dispersed amount of silicalite foam was 25 wt%. Since the apparent density of the foam type catalyst was very low $0.11g{\cdot}cm^{-3}$, the catalyst loading amount could be varied from 0.02 g to 0.5 g without concerning pressure drop, providing a wide variance in the residence time of the reactants and products. The conversion and olefin yield in the catalytic cracking of n-octane increased with the catalyst loading. The product composition was very simple and could be explained by applying the protolytic cracking mechanism when the catalyst loading was small. Higher loading of the catalyst brought about further reactions of cracked products, accumulating lower olefin and paraffin with low reactivity in product stream and resulting in complex product composition.

  • In Korea, the Air Quality Conservation Act and the Petroleum and Petroleum Substitute Fuel Business Act stipulate certain quality standards for fuels distributed in Korea, thereby striving to reduce vehicle performance and emissions. Domestic petroleum products import and produce all the crude oil from each oil refiner so that the quality of the petroleum product is different according to the characteristics of the crude oil. As a result, vehicles have been improved by using the physical properties calculated through the physical property measurement that has tried to improve the accuracy of the measurement of the energy consumption efficiency of the automobile by using standard fuel from abroad. In this study, the same test procedure and method as the test method of domestic gasoline vehicle emission are applied using four samples of gasoline and the latest gasoline vehicle which are actually distributed, and the performance evaluation is performed. The purpose of this study is to contribute to improvement of vehicle technology and fuel quality by collecting necessary basic data and obtaining data on the effect of differences in gasoline property on vehicle emissions. The results of the test showed that the emission of gases (NMOG, CO) from gasoline vehicles was the most influenced by the sulfur content, unlike the previous studies that the vehicles emission had the greatest influence on the distillation characteristics and the specific gravity of aromatic compounds. The catalytic reaction such as the poisoning action of the three-way catalyst which is the abatement device was interfered and the emission was increased. The distillation characteristics and specific gravity of aromatic compounds were found to affect the emission of vehicles. According to the physical properties of the fuel, the emission difference was 28.0% in the urban mode and 17.6 % in the highway mode.

  • Photocatalysis is a photochemical catalytic reaction which is a highly promising tool for the environmental cleanup process. It is very effective in treatment of environmental pollutants by its unique redox property. It has wide applications in the treatment of atmospheric pollutants (e.g., nitrogen dioxide, trichloroethylene, volatile organics, hydrogen sulfide, benzene, etc) through oxidative removal and by disinfection (aeromicro flora). In this research, the fundamental aspects of photocatalysis are described with respect to the composition of catalysts, experimental conditions (e.g., temperature, duration, etc), and interfering factors (e.g., catalyst deactivation).

  • The structural and electrical properties of microcrystalline silicon films were investigated by hot wire chemical vapor deposition(HWCVD) often called catalytic chemical vapor deposition(Cat-CVD). The Si microcrystalline phase is easily controlled by changing the rate of the silane concentration of $SiH_4$ to $H_2$ during deposition. The Structural property was observed by Raman and SEM. Photo-conductivity and dark conductivity, and photo-sensitivity were observed by Sunsimulator (AM 1.5 illumination). The film color was changed by the variation of silane concentration. HWCVD is useful for the formation of Si thin films for solar cell and needs further commercialized development for mass production.

  • This study is about a hydrogen mitigation system in a containment building like an offshore or a nuclear plant. A hydrogen explosion is possibly happened after condensation of steam if hydrogen releases with steam in a containment buildings. Passive autocatalytic recombiner is the one of the measures, but the performance of this equipment is not sure because the distribution of hydrogen is very irregular and is not predicted correctly. This study proposes a new approach for improving the hydrogen removing performance with hydrogen-guiding property. The steam is simulated and analysed. The results show that the shallow air containment reduced over 55% of the released hydrogen and the deep air containment type reduces over 80% of released hydrogen.

  • Water dissociation on oxide surface has been researched in many fields because of its importance as fundamental phenomenas. MgO(001) is a good model system to understand heterogeneous catalysis, gas sensors, ground-water contaminants, and atmosphere chemistry. Over decades, ultrathin film of MgO on Ag(100) have attracted research activities thanks to its enhanced catalytic property. Correlation of the oxide and the metal, potential screening, charge fluctuation from interface reconstruction makes different energetics of hydroxylation of waters on film. We calculate the water-spliting energetics under the vacuum system.

  • The enzyme-like catalytic functions of metal complex phthalocyanine derivatives those containing carboxylic acid groups could be applied as odor-removing systems and antibacterial systems. Pyromellitic dianhydride and 4-nitrophthalimide were used as starting material for synthesizing dinitro-tetracarboxylic acid iron phthalocyanine(compound 1). Then diamino-tetracarboxylic phthalocyanine(compound 2) was obtained by reduction of compound 1. For the formation of covalent bond with cellulose fiber, cyanuric chloride was introduced to the amino group of compound 2 by condensation reaction compound 3. The exhaustion method was employed for adsorbing compound 3 on cotton fiber. K/S values of each fabrics were measured by a CCM system and deodorizing rates were tested by a detector tube method for ammonia gas. K/S values of treated cotton fiber with compound 3 were arranged from 2.1 to 4.2 at $90^{\circ}C$ of exhaustion temperature. Deodorizing rates provided result of 81%, 84%, 88%, 91%, by passing time of 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, respectively.

  • The newly synthesized homogeneous chiral Co(III) salen complexes were anchored non-covalently on the acidic sites of mesoporous Al-SBA-15. The Bronsted and Lewis acidic sites are attributed to the immobilization of fluorine functionalized chiral salen complexes on the supports. XRD, BET, TEM, FT-IR and ESCA (XPS) analyses were performed to characterize the property of support, and the structure of new homogeneous and heterogeneous chiral Co salen catalyst. The homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts could be applied in asymmetric ring opening of epichlorohydrine (ECH) by water. They showed very high enantioselectivity and a good yield up to 99% in the catalytic synthesis of optically active products.

  • Six new binuclear copper(II) complexes have been prepared by template condensation of the dialdehydes 1,8-[bis(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-methyl)benzyl]-l,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (PC-a) and 1,8-[bis(3-formyl-2-hydroxy-5-bromo)benzyl]-l,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (PC-b) with appropriate aliphatic diamines, and copper(II) perchlorate. The structural features of the complexes have been confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis and mass spectra etc. The electrochemical behavior of all the copper(II) complexes show two irreversible one electron reduction process. The room temperature magnetic moment studies depict the presence of an antiferromagnetic interaction in the binuclear complexes. The catechol oxidation and hydrolysis of 4-nitrophenylphosphate were carried out by using the complexes as catalyst. The antimicrobial screening data show good results. The binding of the complexes to calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) has been investigated with absorption and emission spectroscopy. The complex [$Cu_2L^{1a}$] displays significant cleavage property of circular plasmid pBR322 DNA in to linear form. Spectral, electrochemical, magnetic and catalytic studies support the distortion of the copper ion geometry that arises as the macrocyclic ring size increases.
