NiCu alloys have been suggested as potential candidates for catalysts in glucose oxidation. In this study, NiCu alloys with different compositions were prepared on a glassy carbon substrate by changing the electrodeposition potential to examine the effect of Ni/Cu ratios in alloys on catalytic activity toward glucose oxidation. Cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry showed that NiCu alloys had higher catalytic activity than pure Ni and Cu catalysts. Especially, Ni59Cu41 had superior catalytic activity, which was about twice that of Ni at a given oxidation potential. X-ray analyses showed that the oxidation state of Ni in NiCu alloys was increased with the content of Cu by lattice expansion. Ni components in alloys with higher oxidation state were more effective in the oxidation of glucose.
Self-catalytic behavior of combustion-synthesized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is evaluated using a double-faced wall stagnation flow burner with a CNT-deposited stainless steel plate wall. CNT formation is observed using field-emission scanning and transmission electron microscopies and Raman spectroscopy. A self-catalytic behavior of multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs) shows the enhanced ratio of channel diameter to tube wall thickness and the enhanced intensity ratio of G-band to D-band in Raman spectroscopy, implying that the quality of metal-catalytic, flame-synthesized MWCNTs can be much improved via a CNT self-catalytic flame-synthesis process. Thus, using a DWSF burner through the self-catalytic process has potential in mass production of CNTs having much improved quality.
As the first step to elucidate the relationship between the structure and function of CTP:phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase (EC 2.7.7.15) in plants, the partial nucleotide sequence of soybean cytidylyltransferase cDNA was determined using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Degenerate oligonucleotide primers were synthesized from the conserved region revealed from the rat and yeast cytidylyltransferase DNA sequences. The catalytic domain region showed 78 and 76% homology with the rat and yeast amino acid sequences, respectivly. The hydropathy profile indicated that the C-terminal non-catalytic portion of the protein was very hydrophilic, and in the region between the catalytic domain and the C-terminal region, there was a large amphipathic $\alpha$-helical domain that was believed to bind the membrane surface in the active formation. There are 7 potential sites for phosphorylation by protein kinase C and 4 potential sites for phosphorylation by Ca2+/calmodulin kinase within the determined sequence.

Serine proteases are the most versatile proteolytic enzymes with tremendous applications in various industrial processes. This study was designed to investigate the biochemical properties, critical residues, and the catalytic potential of alkaline serine protease using in-silico approaches. The primary sequence was analyzed using ProtParam, SignalP, and Phyre2 tools to investigate biochemical properties, signal peptide, and secondary structure, respectively. The three-dimensional structure of the enzyme was modeled using the MODELLER program present in Discovery Studio followed by Molecular Dynamics simulation using GROMACS 5.0.7 package with CHARMM36m force field. The proteolytic potential was measured by performing docking with casein- and keratin-enriched residues, while the effect of the inhibitor was studied using phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, (PMSF) applying GOLDv5.2.2. Molecular weight, instability index, aliphatic index, and isoelectric point for serine protease were 39.53 kDa, 27.79, 82.20 and 8.91, respectively. The best model was selected based on the lowest MOLPDF score (1382.82) and DOPE score (-29984.07). The analysis using ProSA-web revealed a Z-score of -9.7, whereas 88.86% of the residues occupied the most favored region in the Ramachandran plot. Ser327, Asp138, Asn261, and Thr326 were found as critical residues involved in ligand binding and execution of biocatalysis. Our findings suggest that bioengineering of these critical residues may enhance the catalytic potential of this enzyme.
Rare-earth manganites have a great potential for environmental applications based on their chemical and physical properties. The use of rare-earth manganites as catalysts for environmentally essential reactions was reviewed. Artificial neural networks were used to assess the catalytic activity in oxidation reactions. Relative catalytic activities of the catalysts were further discussed. We concluded that cerium manganite is the most practicable catalyst for technological purposes.
A basic experimental study was conducted in order to find the optimum combustion control technology to decrease the thermal NO$_{x}$, by applying the catalytic combustion method with natural gas. NO$_{x}$ emission increased with increasing space velocity due to temperature rising in the furnace. In order to overcome the low resistance to high temperature, secondary air was supplied to the CST combustor. The following secondary fuel formed combustible mixture in part, which resulted in steep increase of the exiting temperature of the 2nd catalyst bed. It led to the more generator of NO$_{x}$, 30∼60% of the 1 st catalyst bed. It might be due to the potential increase of thermal NO$_{x}$.
The deposition behavior and structural and magnetic properties of electroless Co-B and Co-Fe-B deposits, as well as the amorphous ribbon substrates, were investigated. These Co-based alloy deposits exhibited characteristic polycrystalline structures and surface morphology and magnetic properties that were dependent on the type of amorphous substrates. The catalytic activity sequence of the amorphous ribbon electrodes for anodic oxidation of DMAB was estimated from the current density-potential curve in the anodic partial electrolytic bath that did not contain the metal ions. Both the deposition rate and potential in the initial region were obtained in order of the catalytic activity, depending on the alloy compositions of the substrates. The deposition rate linearly varied against the deposition time. The initial deposition potential may have also determined the structural and magnetic properties of the deposit based on the thickness of ${\mu}m$ order. Furthermore, a basic study of the electroless deposition processes on an amorphous ribbon substrate has been carried out in connection with the structural and magnetic properties of the deposits.
Emulsions were prepared using a mixture of bio-oil obtained from the pyrolysis of sawdust in an N2 environment and Quercus mongolica in a CH4 environment for both non-catalytic and catalytic cases. Both prepared emulsions were examined by measuring the physical stability and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The emulsion with HLB 5.8 (Span 80 and Atlox 4916) for the ratio of bio-oil (B-oil and C-oil): surfactant: diesel = 10% : 3% : 87% showed stability for 15 days. Combining oils produced in N2 and CH4 environments could be a potential solution for generating high-quality emulsions with a high heating value.
Carbon nanotubes were synthesized at various conditions using Ni-catalytic thermal chemical vapor deposition method and their characteristic properties were investigated by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Carbon nanotubes were formed on very fine Ni-catalytic particles. The carbon nanotubes synthesized by thermal decomposition of acetylene at $700^{\circ}C$ had a coiled shape, while those synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ showed a curved and Y-shape having a bamboo-like morphology. It was found that the carbon nanotube was also made on the fine Ni-catalytic particles formed on the surface of 100~400nm sized large ones after pretreatment with $NH_3$.ber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.

$TiO_2$-Ni inverse catalysts were prepared using atomic layer deposition (ALD) process and catalytic $CO_2$ reforming of methane (CRM) reaction over catalysts (either bare Ni or $TiO_2$ coated-Ni particles) were performed using a continuous flow reactor at $800^{\circ}C$. $TiO_2$-Ni inverse catalyst showed higher catalytic reactivity at initial stage of CRM reactions at $800^{\circ}C$ comparing to bare Ni catalysts. Moreover, catalytic activity of $TiO_2$/Ni catalyst was kept high during 13 hrs of the CRM reactions at $800^{\circ}C$, whereas deactivation of bare Ni surface was started within 1hr under same conditions. The results of surface analysis using SEM, XPS, and Raman showed that deposition of graphitic carbon was effectively suppressed in a presence of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles on Ni surface, thereby improving catalytic reactivity and stability of $TiO_2$/Ni catalytic systems. We suggest that utilizing decoration effect of metal catalyst with oxide nanoaprticles is of great potential to develop metal-based catalysts with high stability and reactivity.
