Study for the Preparation of Deodorizing Fiber (IV) - Preparations of Deodorizing Fibers using $TiO_2$ and Effects of Calcination Temperature on the Deodorant Activity - (소취 섬유의 제조에 관한 연구 (IV) - 산화티탄(IV)을 이용한 소취 섬유의 제조 및 calcination 온도가 소취율에 미치는 영향 -)

  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using $TiO_2$ have been investigated. The fibers were coated with $TiO_2$ for the purpose of deodorizing by dipping fibers into the $TiO_2$ sol solutions and calcined at $450^\circ{C}$, $500^\circ{C}$ and $750^\circ{C}$ for 1 h after coating. The surface structure of the coated fibers was studied with XRD on the different preparation conditions of calcination temperatures. The deodorizing function of the prepared fibers was studied by the determination of the decomposing capability for $NH_3,\;CH_3SH\;and\;CH_3CHO$. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodoriBing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. The deodorizing effect of the prepared fibers were shown to be similar for the three model compounds; 5wt% $TiO_2$ sol solution calcined at $450^\circ{C}$ < 5 wt% $TiO_2$ sol solution calcined at $500^\circ{C}$< 5 wt% TiO$_2$ sol solution calcined at $750^\circ{C}$.

  • The rocket grade hydrogen peroxide has been widely used as a monopropellant in propulsion systems. Conventional decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, however, requires preheating before feeding into the reactor. In the present paper, we described an experimental study of a catalytic reactor bed that employs multiple catalysts to enhance the low temperature response in the vicinity of the reactor inlet. $K_2MnO_4$ is experimentally chose as the inlet catalyst from the candidates of silver, platinum, $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3(LSC),\;and\;K_2MnO_4$. We developed new synthesis and coating method using modified alumina sol-gel method to strengthen the adhesion of $K_2MnO_4$ catalyst. from the vaporizer experiment with hydrogen peroxide at room temperature, satisfactory vaporizing performance was measured.

  • We report on the simple preparation method of large-scale structured catalysts by temperature-regulated chemical vapor deposition with a high cell-density ceramic honeycomb monolith. And the feasibility for dry reforming of methane catalysts was evaluated. The NiO/Cordierite (CDR) catalyst was prepared by controlling coating conditions at each temperature step, leading to a conformal deposition of NiO inside the cordierite honeycomb monolith with the cell density of 600 cpsi. The catalytic conversion of $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ for dry reforming of methane were about 83% and 90% with gas hourly space velocity of $10,000h^{-1}$ at $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. As a result, it exhibited that the temperature-regulated chemical vapor deposition method can be expedient for the preparation of large-scale structured catalysts.

  • Ni-Cr-Al metal-foam-supported catalysts for steam methane reforming (SMR) are manufactured by applying a catalytic Ni/Al2O3 sol-gel coating to powder alloyed metallic foam. The structure, microstructure, mechanical stability, and hydrogen yield efficiency of the obtained catalysts are evaluated. The structural and microstructural characteristics show that the catalyst is well coated on the open-pore Ni-Cr-Al foam without cracks or spallation. The measured compressive yield strengths are 2-3 MPa at room temperature and 1.5-2.2 MPa at 750℃ regardless of sample size. The specimens exhibit a weight loss of up to 9-10% at elevated temperature owing to the spallation of the Ni/Al2O3 catalyst. However, the metal-foam-supported catalyst appears to have higher mechanical stability than ceramic pellet catalysts. In SMR simulations tests, a methane conversion ratio of up to 96% is obtained with a high hydrogen yield efficiency of 82%.

  • In this study, the performance of a honeycomb-type hydrogen oxidation catalyst to remove hydrogen in a hydrogen economy society to secure leaking hydrogen. The Pd/TiO2 catalyst was prepared based on a liquid phase reduction method that is not exposed to a heat source, and it was showed through H2-chemisorption analysis that it existed as very small active particles of 2~4 nm. In addition, it was found that the metal dispersion decreased and the active particle size increased as the reduction reaction temperature increased. It was meant that the active metal particle size and the hydrogen oxidation performance were in a proportional correlation, so that it was consistent with the hydrogen oxidation performance reduction result. The prepared catalyst was coated on a support in the form of a honeycomb so that it could be applied to the hydrogen industrial process. When 20 wt% or more of the AS-40 binder was coated, oxidation performance of 90% or more was observed under low-concentration hydrogen conditions. It was showed through SEM analysis that long-term catalytic activity can be expected by enhancing the adhesion strength of the catalyst and preventing catalyst desorption. It is a basic research that can secure safety in a hydrogen society such as gasification, organic resource, and it can be utilized as a system that can respond to unexpected safety accidents in the future.

PM Reduction Characteristics of Partial Metal DPF with Screen Mesh Filter Structure (스크린 필터 구조 Partial Metal DPF의 PM 저감 특성)

  • In this work, the 1L grade integrated metal DOC/DPF filter that can install in engine manifold position was developed to investigate the effect of platinum-coating amount of filter on the improvement of filter activation temperature and reduction of particulate matter (PM). This filter was installed in 2.9L CI engine which meets the EURO-4 emission regulation. Tests for PM reduction efficiency of filter were conducted under ND-13 mode with full-load test condition. It was revealed that the time to reach the activation temperature of metal filter ($280^{\circ}C$) was shorter as the amount of platinum-coating increased. This short activation time can be helpful for the reduction of CO and HC emissions during cold start condition. At the same time, PM reduced as the coating amount increased. The reduction percentage of $DOC_{40}$, $DOC_{20}$, and $DOC_0$ were 96.7% (2.34 mg/kW'h), 95.1% (3.47 mg/kW'h), and 94.5% (3.69 mg/kW'h) compared to previous result (71.4 mg/kW'h), respectively.

  • The mechanical properties of NATM resin of synthetic polyurethane-epoxy resin for stainless steel were measured by SEM, FT-IR, tensile properties, and specific mass loss by EIS analysis, etc. As interest in eco-friendly medium coatings increased, the Heavy duty coatings were synthesized for various metals such as stainless steel composed of Polyol, MDI, water bored Epoxy resin, filling agent, silicon surfactant, catalyst etc. The coatings of synthetic NATM resin were increased tensile strength due to various temperature change, and the low-Specific Mass Loss was measured in a highly electrolytic solution. In conclusion, the NATM coatings composed of polyurethane and waterbored Epoxy, polyurea resin were synthetic microstructure with cross linkage can be good material for coating of anticorrosion of metal substrates such as stainless steel.

  • The hard coatings on the polycarbonate plate were performed with the object of substitution the glass in the car to the polycarbonate plate. In this research, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS), methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) were used to prepare the coatings by sol-gel process. The optimum conditions and formulation to get the excellent physical properties were determined. The pretreatment condition of polycarbonate plate, the mole ratio of TEOS and MTES, selection of the solvent, the aging time, the amount of acid catalyst, and the number of folds of coating were characterized. Pretreatment with poly(methyl methacrylate) was very effective to increase the adhesion strength. The smooth coating which got the 2 H class in pencil hardness was formed in this research by sol-gel process.

  • Intumescent inorganic and organic coatings which dintr one from the other by the type of gas formers and the mechanisms of foam formation have been obtained and investigated. Inorganic intumescent coatings are the compositions based on water glass and mineral additives with different dispersity. Mineral additives contain adsorbed and absorbed water and carbonates which are destructed with the carbon dioxide and water evolution during the flame action on coating. The decreasing of mineral additives particle sizes under the mechanical milling with the fraction precipitation promotes the foam coke formation with less defects. Here the main structure of comparing compositions does not change. In organic coatings based on epoxy-polymers the polyammonium phosphate additive is used. It is the cabonization catalyst and the foam agent. The polyammonium phosphate of various dispersity employed is uniformly distributed on the polymeric matrix. The decreasing of the particle sizes leads to the increasing of the fire resistant properties of the intumescent coa-ting. The fire resistant analysis of the coating during more than an hour: the coating back side the temperature on plastic or wooden materials does not exceed 423K, and on metal-573K.

  • Silicone rubber is widely used in most industries due to diverse advantages like heat stability, UV stability, durability, chemical resistance, environment friendliness, inertness and so on. But there is limitation to expand applications due to relatively weak rubber strengths such as tensile strength and tear strength, especially in fabric coating applications. The purpose of this study is to find influence of coating agent on performances of rubber and coated fabrics and their correlation according to different crosslinking densities of silicone rubbers. Addition cure type of silicones were formulated using crosslinked MQ-type silicone resin consisting of M (R3SiO1/2) and Q (SiO4/2) and linear polymers. Raw materials used were; 1) linear vinyl endblocked polymers and vinyl functional MQ resin as main polymers, 2) linear silicone hydride polymers as crosslinkers, 3) platinum catalyst and 4) inhibitor to control curing speed. Rubber specimens were prepared to check mechanical strength using universal testing machine (UTM). Crosslinking density was calculated using Flory-Rhener equation using solvent swelling method. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) were used to characterize rubbers. Consequently, it was found that physical properties of silicone rubbers and coated fabrics can be expected by crosslinking density of rubbers. Silicone rubber formulations that contain 20 ~ 30 wt% of vinyl MQ resin showed strongest balanced performances.
